  1. That's hilarious. Sounds like another topic…Bands You Shouldn't Have Messed with in the First Place. Alas, I never tried the Chili Peppers or Primus but I did like the Spin Doctors for moment.
  2. That's interesting because I think the production (besides the strings, choir and horns) is pretty good. If the entire album was on par with the Painter, then it'd been good album. However, I can see that the production is kind of that dead studio thing neil's been doing for almost two decades. another one of his albums that has great songs but horrible production is Ragged Glory. That gated drum sound is just so bad.
  3. Thanks for the info. This sounds exactly what I think the legacy should be…bands playing tribute to the Dead rather than trying to be the Dead a la DSO. I love the guy from New Bohemians. He's not trying to be Jerry, but has his own clean tone that fits in well with the music. He can also fill the music unlike most of the others. Hope these guys come play down south sometime soon!
  4. There's some real throwaways on that one. Prairie Wind, Far From Home, He Was The King.
  5. Well, that's a good point. Some albums are killer that I really never ever have to hear again…Zep IV is a great example. However, if Stairway or Black Dog comes on the radio, I'll rock out. Worldrecord makes a good point about the difference between sick of and not holding up. I thought I loved Neil Young's Prairie Wind album from 05. Listened to it last night and it just does not hold up at all. I'm not sick of it, I just don't like it any more. It's got really bad songs on it, aside from the lead off track.
  6. I've been revisiting some old albums that I thought were classics to me and I find they just don't hold up. Probably just because I'm sick of them, but who knows. For example, I've always thought of myself as a Neil Young completist, but I really don't care for half of his catalog. After the Gold Rush and Everybody Knows just don't do it for me any more. I still like a few songs, but that's about it. Same with Wilco. I really can't stand to listen to BT or ST ever again, though I love AGIB on out. I know tastes change, but it seems that the digital age may have something to do with this
  7. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~./gdead/dead-sets/92/6-28-92.txt This show was pretty good.
  8. yeah, absolutely ridiculous. i'd still like to see him with the horse or solo before he's done.
  9. In the record store I worked at in the 90s we always had Charlie in the changer. One of the greats. Love his work with Pat Methney and Ginger Baker/Bill Frisell. RIP
  10. i'd love it if they just started releasing shows individually. i'd also love to see some them pull together some comps with nuggets. especially from the last few years. there's some good stuff in there.
  11. The song choices are interesting, but the whole thing is just a mess. Aside from the sound quality, it sounds as if Neil didn't rehearse any of these songs before recording. That being said, Neil's on tour with Crazy Horse now and the set lists look fun. Billy Talbot had a stroke so Rick Rosas is sitting in. I wonder what's next for Neil? Maybe something in the late fall?
  12. Couple of things... Why is Karan not in Ratdog anymore? Incidentally, I guess Ratdog played a show without Bobby the other night. He was sick. Drummer sang everything. Also, with the rest of Spring 90, they are releasing that single show with Branford from Nassau. I might pick that up.
  13. What's your favorite song on each album? Just one song. AM-Shouldn't Be Ashamed Being There-Say You Miss Me Summerteeth-ELT YHF-Kamera AGIB-Hell Is Chrome SBS-Side With Seeds WTA-One Wing The Whole Love-Sunloathe
  14. I just think it's fun to have new Floyd on the horizon. The news report indicates that they might be working with some previously recorded material by Rick Wright.
  15. http://www.straight.com/blogra/680271/david-gilmours-wife-polly-samson-leaks-news-twitter-about-new-pink-floyd-album Supposedly called The Endless River. If they tour, wow!
  16. I've heard the entire thing. The unreleased Neil songs are the real gems. There's some other interesting stuff, but it's really not that much of a revelation. Stephen Stills an absolute inability to play lead in this set and Neil plays no lead. It's really weird.
  17. i've tried many times to get into him. alas, the 'dink' factor has been an issue.
  18. That's true. 2015 will probably be a big wilco year. Also, if there was to be a change, I'd love to see the Loose Fur lineup with John added in on bass. That would kill!
  19. i agree with this. i'd like to see the band bring a more exploratory player rather than avant-garde. Someone like Tom Verlaine or Adrian Belew. Or, maybe just a straight ahead kick ass rock player like joe walsh. That being said, I think the band is just taking a well-deserved break. They've hit it pretty hard for years. They are also slowing down. Everyone has families, not to mention Tweedy's current situation. So there you go.
  20. Neil is the most consistent through the whole thing. Really hard to believe these guys filled stadiums. All because of Neil, no doubt.
  21. did it leak or is it streaming somewhere?
  22. Re: ultra lp. i find this stuff fascinating and wonder if it really does make the listening experience 'better' or if it's still just mediocre music all dressed up. i mean, will these 'new' records coming out be classics? i wonder. if i had the money, i'd probably bite, but then i don't think any jack white record will hold up in 10 years like a beatles or wilco record will. so it'll just sit on my shelf. just some ramblings.
