  1. great thread. i'm looking forward to: DBT (two albums) Gob Iron (?) Toast-Neil Young CSN-Covers album nothing much else. wonder if wilco will put out an ep this year? also, i assume we'll get another live release from neil's archives.
  2. that is ridiculous. was at barnes and noble the other night. they still have a music area, but no one works back there anymore. they call someone up. new releases were $18. ridiculous. i thought cd prices were supposed to go down by the late 80s. its amazing how they depreciate though. 'new' cds put out this decade are usually $.75 on amazon at this point. the classics retain their value (zeppelin, springsteen) but even new music from classic artists depreciates quickly. don't even get me started on how much downloads. ZERO production costs for physical product and still $10?
  3. you don't like the beatles do you?
  4. I love 89-90...up until brent died of course. i could listen to that era for the rest of my life and be happy. used to hate hearing victim at shows, but what a great song. that and foolish in the first set in those days was fun. always thought vince's songs belonged in the first set.
  5. No W(TA)? mmmm. not even On Filmore
  6. Happy happy happy! jay farrar has some bad lyrics like this gem from Automatic Society, 'Do you want fries with that?" Horrible.
  7. good points. however, john is not leading at all. he's following phil and bob. i've been over the scene for years. still listen to the dead once in a while and keep up with what's going on. i'm glad the boys go out and play and people still see them. the grateful dead are over and i think the Other Ones '98 was the height of post-jerry activity.
  8. i knew bobby would bust out walk in the sunshine one of these days...."Look Out!"
  9. right, it was an outtake from American Beauty. definitive version for me is on Reckoning.
  10. new song by Furthur. pretty good. damn, i would love some new music from these guys.
  11. i thought to lay me down was also recorded for that album?
  12. good point. i meant to say above that that was a great looking setlist. saw some clips on youtube of that show and it wasn't half bad. the DSO guy is not jerry, but fits the slot okay. the drummers are the week link in that band. why no billy or mickey? isn't it usually phil who's having a problem? anyway, this time of year usually gets me missing the dead. nothing better on winter break in college than hanging out with friends to listen to the broadcast of the new years dead show. then, of course, spring tour!
  13. Light Of X-Miranda Lee Richards Best record this year. Kind like Mazzy Star in Laurel Canyon.
  14. it's a no win for these guys. i love bob and phil together. two distinct sounds that were destine to play together. the lead slot is just so tough for them. we don't want someone playing just like garcia. that would be weird, as you say. but we don't want someone coming in and ransacking the songs (enter warren haynes IMO). i think it worked best with Karan and Kimock. unfortunately, those guys don't seem to be part of this family. especially kimock. not to mention the fact that they have been pathetically under-rehearsed since the other ones days. i think hornsby got them into shap
  15. yes, there is another album coming out too. i assume in the fall of '10. i forget the title. i remember reading that patterson said that it was gonna be an R/B Murder ballad album..whatever that means looking forward to this.
  16. like many albums it's so hard to decide which tracks to take off though. she was so hot! (of course i'm thinking of the mullet from the mid-80s!)
  17. same here. this is a great record, if a bit too long.
  18. i'm a fan too. recently been listening to Two Originals. what happened to him? shit this sucks.
  19. good discussion here, especially the point about albums being longer and our attention spans declining. i can't stand a 14 song album. everybody is guilty of this a bit. drive by truckers are infamous for it. i think its the reason i just can't get totally into them. listening to patterson is not 'fun' but 76 minutes! too much. love wilco with their 10-12 song limit. i also like the sides of albums. i've started doing this on my ipod.
  20. sounds so good. love hearing these songs with out the production. my only wish is that there was a bonus disc with 'other' songs played on this solo tour.
  21. despite my initial review, this album is growing on me.
  22. for me: glidemagazine.com (music news) viachicago.org thrasherswheat.org (neil young blog) juno (for email)
