  1. Such a beautiful song...and one of the hardest singers to emulate. What a voice.
  2. Nice to see they have also cut out the 15 minute overture of techs and roadies walking on and off stage.
  3. I will, thank you for the guidance. Just started getting my head around torrents. I'll search for Buffalo next! The solo in Loser from Cornell sounds like something Neil Young would do. Gives me shivers ever time.
  4. Received this email today. I figure these shows are gonna do the rounds anyway so thought I'd post it here. Greetings, Since we had a few minor issues/intrusions in Sydney (slightly reduced set time on night one, many cameras on stage for night two) we've decided to make it up to you fine and loyal ticket buyers the only way we know how: with free music. For the next two weeks, we're giving you the audio downloads of BOTH nights' shows. Have fun & we'll see you next time around with a LONGER set and no cameras. We promise. 5. 8 May 1977 I'm listening to it for the first time. Holy Moly.
  6. Quick question: I notice that the Denver '73 Roadtrips CD is all sold out via Deadnet. Does that normally mean for good with a series like that or will more copies be pressed?
  7. I bought this second hand a few months back with the half-hearted intent of starting it sometime. I'm now just over 200 pages in and I'm loving it:
  8. Walking into a record store having decided to buy a Grateful Dead CD even though I had never heard any of their music before. I picked an album (from quite a few) at random and asked the guy behind the counter if I could listen to it. Box of Rain came on and I knew this was it. I bought American Beauty and was hooked. That was maybe ten years ago.
  9. One band not mentioned in the article above is The Band. I'm sure I remember him being interviewed on a doco I have somewhere where he was speaking of the Rock of Ages live album and how fond he was of the sound on that album. I've just looked it up and it turns out he was one of the engineers on the record.
  10. Before getting into short stories I read this. It was wonderful (as I've come to expect from anything I read by John Fante)
  11. Thanks for all of the great recommendations here. I'm eager to delve into as many of them as possible.
  12. Thanks so much for this. I have his name written in my notepad and then had forgotten about it. He was interviewed in one of the Saturday papers here and I thought what he had to say about his own writing and writing in general was very interesting and it made me curious about his work. I then promptly forgot about seeking his books out but you've given me a task to complete before Easter. Thank you!
  13. I've been reading Runaway by Alice Munro based on the recommendation of a friend. He has been raving about her, borrowing book after book from the library, not able to get enough of her stories. I'm now almost through this book and whilst I have enjoyed some of the stories and agree that her writing is good, I'm not wild about it. It made me think of asking for recommendations of great short story writers. Reading Raymond Carver years ago moved me greatly and I guess I've been looking for that feeling ever since. Any ideas from the good folk in here?
  14. Jim White - Dirty Three http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo4OrfS2K8Y
  15. Ben Dorsey - world's oldest roadie.
