  1. Pendagrast, hands down. Holmes may be a psycho, but ol' Pendagrast was bananas.
  2. This statement confuses me to no end. Why would anyone want to catch a glimpse at Golic's son? Now if Golic's son was about to lay a crushing hit on that weenie Greenburg, I'm interested, otherwise meh.
  3. But isn't everyone going to be tuned in to NBC (Notredame Broadcasting Corp) for the Michigan-ND game?
  4. Good point. The Gilded Age certainly reflected a changing of the guard from many standpoints. The increased urbanization and industrialization of the United States was occurring at this time.
  5. When I first read the book, this was one of those revelations. I'd like to hear what you all think of this theory: With the use of the "staff" to meet the construction deadlines, the White City is perhaps the beginning of the disposable commercialism that characterizes our current culture. Instead of scaling back on what could be built using substantial materials (i.e. brick, stone, etc.) that would last for decades the Fair organizers and builders opted for buildings of a temporary nature that superficially projected granduer and substance, but were in fact transient in nature. No wond
  6. Don't forget about the animosity amongst Midwesterners as well. Early on in the book when Larsen is discussing the bidding process and all of the cities who submitted bids, the St. Louis bid was basically mocked by all concern, including the Chicago group. Is this the genesis of the "strained" relationship between the two cities, or is this just a contiuation of an earlier, historical rivalry? Anyone in St. Louis care to chime in?
  7. First off, I deserve 40 lashes with a wet noodle or at least an Incomplete because I am only starting Part II at this point. But I did read the book a couple years ago so I am "qualified" to throw my 2 cents in. Could the story of the White City and the "Devil" been told in two seperate books? Sure, but I don't think that it would not have generated the publicity that this final product did and would have resulted in far fewer people reading (and most likely learning for the first time) about either story. One of the things that I have always questioned is whether Holmes would have bui
  8. The weather was nice. I got a nice tan, the Miami cheerleaders were cute, I had a late lunch at Cottage Inn, and we won. All and all, it was a nice day to be in A2. But Michigan needs to get their sh*t together and beat ND next week.
  9. So who has any ballsy upsets for week 2? My upset pick for week 1 almost came through. I was only an overthrown Steve Threet 2 point conversion and an OT victory away last week.
  10. Detroit could do a lot worse than Bing in my opinion. He has been a successful business owner for a number years. Detroit needs leaders who are willing to make the hard decisions and to build partnerships with the suburbs, espicially in Oakland and Macomb counties. Bing's business contacts and experiences would serve the city well.
  11. I thought journalists were supposed to objectively report the facts so that the reader/listener/viewer can make up his/her own opinion that the power-that-is should be criticized or supported based on said reader's/listener's/viewer's informed viewpoint. And before anyone accuses me of being an apologist for FNC, they suck big time.
  12. It's going to be a loooooooooooong year I'm afraid.
  13. I think we have a winner. For me, heading to Ann Arbor on Saturday for the Michigan Utah football game. Sunday and Monday, weather permitting, hanging at my Dad's place on the lake and messing around in boats and stuff with my niece and nephew.
  14. I don't know what is causing my sense of doom and foreboding for the Michigan-Utah game: (1) The complete lack of depth on the offensive line for Michigan; (2) The fact that the QB situation is iffy at best; or (3) Trying to get through the stadium construction before the game with 100K+ other people. I just hope that there is not a repeat of the Labor Day Weekend Horror from last year - and I'm not talking about the sunburn.
  15. Just a friendly reminder that the IATTBYH live draft is this Thursday at 10:30 p.m. Eastern. Justin, as you were the OP for this thread, could you change the title to reflect our league name? Thanks.

    I fear

According to the credits, Nels did not play on "Patient". In fact, I distinctly remember him mentioning that when he introduced the song (the only Wilco song) on his podcast.
  17. The campfire scene from Blazing Saddles. The Blutto/D-Day/Flounder taking the horse to Dean Wormer's office and the inevitable consequence. The revelation/realization scene in which we learn who is Kaiser Soze. Dinner at Louis in the Godfather. Hell every scene in Godfather and Godfather2.

Once again I am in 100% agreement with Lamrod. The universal implosion begins in 5....4....3....2.....
  19. I voted for Devil for the exact same reason that austrya voted for Oscar.

I agree with Lamrod with the exception that the it will be so great that the end result will be that the universe will implode.
  21. This list is BS, as far as the Michigan listings are concerned. All of the places listed in Michigan are in Metropolitan Detroit / SE Michigan. I'd rather live in SW Michigan or the TC area than 5 of the 6 places listed. The exception being A2 of course.
  22. I am going to try to take part in this. Sounds like fun.
