Jools Holland was involved during the first season.

I've read that version, too. Anything's possible, but I don't believe the stagehand slapped the kid.
-
Oh, well I have zero interest in that at any price.
-
I'd love to read Jimmy Page's autobiography, but he's going to have to slash the price by about $675 before I pull out my wallet. http://www.spinner.com/2010/08/25/jimmy-page-to-release-autobiography-with-expensive-price-tag/

You're right, it's more like Funkadelic than the other Parliament stuff I've heard, which seems to be more horn and vocal driven. I really enjoyed it, but I've only listened to it once, so I can't say where it ranks amongst their other albums.

Someone posted this one a few weeks ago, so I went ahead and ordered it before it went OOP.

I don't know about Chicago, but it came on at midnight or one a.m. on Sunday. An esay to overlook timeslot. I don't recall ever seeing any TV commercials or other high profile promotion for the show. I have no idea how I found out about it...probably purely by accident, or maybe an ad in a music magazine. I'll bet a show like this would get 100 (if not 1,000) times more viewers today than it did in the '80s.

It's funny to see a keytar in that video. Those things went from cutting edge technology to goofiest instrument ever in about three months. And somehow today, there are dozens of "hip" bands that are using them again.

I've heard that that particular episode played a big part in ABC deciding to dump the show.

This show was absolutely amazing. Possibly the most adventurous programming ever to air on network tv. Here's a link that lists all the musical guests from Night Music (originally known as Sunday Night): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunday_Night#Episodes Here's a performance that I remember fondly, yet I've never heard anything from this band since: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1zHvStZINk&p=0A0F335696C11043&playnext=1&index=7 I still have a few episodes of this show rotting away on VHS.

It wasn't just bootleggers. My old boss used to work as a stagehand for Bill Graham (oh man, he has some amazing stories). At one show (it may have been one of the 'Day on the Green" shows), a young kid was caught by another stagehand removing a "Led Zeppelin" placard from a backstage door. The stagehand told the kid to beat it. Unbeknownst to the stagehand, the kid was Peter Grant's son. When Grant found out about this horrible injustice, Grant, Richard Cole and John Bonham beat the stagehand so badly that he spent a significant amount of time in the hospital.

Pretty good list, but no Breeders Safari? Seriously?

For me it was Sense and Sensibility. I will physically fight anyone who tries to make me see that again. EDIT: I actually meant to say The Age of Innocence, but either is sufficient. -
Now THAT is a snifter of cognac.

On Saturday night I watched The House Bunny and then listened to Captain Beefheart's Ice Cream for Crow. Tequila was involved. -
That's basically my impression after one listen. Musically, it's technically impressive, but it seems like the target audience is people who work in the drum department of Guitar Center. The vocals are so terrible I feel like there must be an inside-joke or something that I'm missing out on.

I got to see one of these up close. It looked pretty badass. I didn't get to play it, though. http://www.electric-guitar-review.com/2006/08/16/number-9-gibsons-pete-townshend-signature-les-paul-deluxe/

Finally got a chance to check out this band. People really like this stuff? Glad I got it for free from the library.

Interesting. They sold out their Atlanta show at a venue with 2600 capacity. I know a lot of people who are still looking for tickets, so I think they could have played somewhere bigger, or two nights at the same place. I'm kind of surprised they're downsizing. I don't know whwre you live, but did they recently play a large festival near you? I can see how that might decrease ticket sales for their own show.

From Watt's most recent Stooges tour diary: "speaking of miss yuka, I had something to do w/putting together a proj called floored by four that did an album last summer along w/dougie bowne and nels cline - now her and brother nels are getting married november thirteen so I'm gonna stay a week after my last japan tour missingmen "hyphenated-man" gig so I can be there for the wedding. in the meantime, I can maybe finish me and jim o'rourke's duet album - like I said, I got many trips in the pipeline w/many righteous cats. could anyone be more grateful? that's why you'll hear me bellyachin' ab

"Wilco is a difficult band to schedule, and they have a new album coming out next spring," she said. So, that means new Wilco album three summers from now.

I had no idea he died, or that he was sick. That's too bad. He was a great drummer with a unique sound and feel. I saw Little Feat open for the Allman Brothers in the '90s, but I think that's the only time I ever say Richie in concert.
