My guess is the house band played a Band tune during the commercial break, and Levon (and maybe also his band) joined in on drums and/or vocals. Would've been fun to see that. I'll bet things like that happen often enough that they could compile a great dvd of unaired performances.

Based on the shine on that future general, it's safe to say we'll still have easy access to oil in 2750.

So, what happened during the commercial break on that video that caused Letterman to get so excited?

A good band with a great drummer* is better than a good band with a good drummer. Every time. *Great Drummer: A drummer who plays appropriately for the song/style of music, while playing with a style of his/her own. A high degree of technical skill can be beneficial, but is not a requirement in most styles of music. Moe Tucker was just as good in the Velvet Underground as Billy Cobham was in Mahavishnu Orchestra, but neither of them would have been able to cut it if they traded gigs.

I saw New Riders of the Purple Sage in 1992 (or maybe 1993). The highlight was when the guitarist turned the volume of his Telecaster all the way down and held it up to his vocal mic and played a nice solo. Yeah, I'm getting old, but I didn't like goofy electronic music when I was a kid, either. I like drums, guitars, pianos, etc.

I frequently tune in to WRAS/88.5 here in Atlanta hoping to hear something new and exciting, but every time I tune in they're playing goofy electronic music. I can't stand that kind of stuff. Is that what college kids like these days? Back to topic: The Nashville Teens: Tobacco Road

There's no chance of that. Radio will always be around. How else are you going to find out about all the amazing rebates at your local car lot while you're driving to work? Even if commercial radio proves to be a financial loser, colleges will not give up their radio stations any time soon. And if/when they do give up on it, the hobbyists will take over. That means radio is likely heading into another golden age. I hope I live to hear it.

That's interesting. When I was looking into this a couple months ago, everything I read described this model as a "Red Devil", but apparently they called it a "Speed Demon", too. I guess the fact that they had multiple names for the same guitar is similar to their inconsistent use of various parts (different headstock badges, different bridge materials). I guess Kay's inconsistency is part of its charm.

No, he doesn't mention anything about that, but he offers some pretty interesting insight into their working process, crafting his drum parts, strategies for playing songs that he's gotten sick of, etc.
