  1. That sounds very promising. Although the only song released so far uses regular snared drum and toms throughout. Hopefully well hear the kind of playfulness he's describing on the other tracks.
  2. Working my way through season 2 of Barry, and it seems to have gone in perhaps the most bizarre direction I've ever seen in a TV show.
  3. Oh, that never occurred to me. Nevertheless, I hope we're not going to get a record like Nebraska.
  4. That sounds promising. I'm not negative about the album. I'm very hopeful for the album, but a review in one of the more reputable and well written music publications comparing it to Nebraska (a solo acoustic guitar singer-songwriter album...which is exactly the opposite of what I want from Wilco, particularly after Schmilco) makes me worry Jeff is underutilizing his band...again. Now, as mentioned by someone else, maybe the review was alluding to the "political aspects" of the album. We'll see, but that doesn't seem to jibe with what Jeff has had to say recently about political songs
  5. I didn't realize this band was still a thing. I've been weeding out records lately and this one has been on the chopping block. The only reason I keep it is because it was the answer to a "Win a Tama Drum Kit" trivia question* in Modern Drummer magazine when I was in high school, and my drum teacher (Tom Rafferty, RIP....link below to his band, the Starving Brain Eaters) told me the answer. I didn't win the drums, but I guess keeping that memory alive is a pretty good reason to keep the record. Then again, am I really going to forget if I let the record go? (*Name the band that Carl Palm
  6. Whoever wrote that, I'll bet they sat in front of a mirror admiring their image for a long time when they came up with that line. It means don't expect Glenn or Nels to do anything interesting on this one.
  7. I was scrolling through Facebook a few minutes ago and saw the Iommi picture. I didn't stop long enough to see that it was your page/this article, but I thought it was a really rad photo. I'm glad you posted this here, because, like most of what I see on FB, I probably would have just thought "cool photo" and never given it another thought Now that I'm looking at the Iommi photo in detail, I don't think I've ever seen one where his false fingertips are so clearly visible. You got a rare shot there! Excellent stuff! Cograts on the coverage.
  8. I loved Biden as a campaigner way back when he was running against Obama, but he scares the shit out of me now. Trump will beat him.
  9. This post kind of leads straight back to my original point. With Hillary vs Bernie, and continuing after Bernie's run was over, the emphasis coming from progressives stayed exclusively on the problems with Hillary (often using the exact same talking points as the GOP), and there was not a peep about the ways she would have been better than Trump, which were myriad. I see that happening again on a large scale. Democrats and progressives both have mistakes they should learn from. I think democrats are showing that they have learned from them, based on the platforms of most of the candidate
  10. I'd be interested in seeing the full context of this hot sauce conversation. I live in the south side of Atlanta, 78% AA population, and I've never known hot sauce to be a thing that's specifically associated with food black people eat. Mike Watt has a holster on his belt that he uses to carry hot sauce everywhere he goes. I doubt he does that to pander to the African-American community.
  11. That was a mistake. Among my social group I saw lots of #NeverHillary stuff, and loads of suspect article sharing aimed at damaging her. Even after the primaries were over. This "give me everything I want or we burn it all down" nonsense was a nationwide trend on the progressive left. We're suffering badly now for it, and their belief that a Trump presidency would be no worse than Hillary was obviously and objectively wrong. Every last one of them went dead silent the minute Trump won, and they've stayed dead silent (for better and worse) ever since. I don't respect that. Can you des
  12. That's what all Bernie-or-Busters say.
  13. His supporters certainly did him no favors, and their tactics did grave damage to Clinton, and as a result, the entire country.
  14. My feeling is along these lines, but with the slight but significant modification to this: She seems much more capable of compromise and rational argument, whereas Bernie (and his base) is (are) willing to go down in flames (and take all of us with them) for his (their) cause if it's not adopted 100%.
  15. I'd like to see that, and I think you're right about how it'd go. I feel strongly that this country is nowhere near electing a gay person, though. What I really want to see is him debate Pence and tear apart Pence's fake christianity. I think having a gay VP would move this country farther forward, and faster, than having a gay presidential candidate who ends up losing.
  16. Now that the latest round of debates are over, I'm calling Warren as the decisive winner, and I think she demonstrated that she would be the most effective opponent against Trump. Biden was repeatedly on the ropes after some softball challenges. Trump is going to eat him alive. Harris's delivery is too monotone to inspire the enthusiasm it's going to take to rally voters. You can barely hear what she's saying much of the time, and that definitely won't play well in debates against Trump. Delivery matters. Her delivery is well suited for committee hearings, but doesn't work on the debat
  17. He did a stellar job as part of the all-star Suite: Judy Blue Eyes performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pb9sa2fOcPA
  18. I'd like to see Jeff backed up by Brian Blade on drums, or maybe Jim Keltner, and Bill Frisell on guitar. Or maybe Angus Young.
  19. This is the norm in journalism. Books have been written on this topic. I recommend this one: https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/inventing-reality-the-politics-of-news-media_michael-parenti/312170/#isbn=0312020139&idiq=2252601
  20. In case you haven't seen it, the issue is out and in addition to the interview with Jeff, it has interviews with Spencer Tweedy and Tom Schick. https://tapeop.com/
  21. I'm sure they weren't expecting him to say "The Russians interfered in the election for the benefit of Trump...but also for Clinton's benefit." With that statement, Trump probably won reelection.
  22. I watched large portions of it. Mueller was not impressive. If the needle has moved, my feeling is that it's in Trump's favor. I'd love to be wrong about that. In this strange world, Micheal Cohen is probably going to be remembered as a bigger hero than Mueller.
  23. Haha, yeah, that happened.
  24. Jeff has stated many times that his solo performances are, in part, a way to prove that the experimental stuff is really just regular songs that one guy with a guitar can perform. So I think this may have always been his process. It's just that in the last ten years or so he rarely incorporates the other part of the process that involves studio manipulation, post-production, experimentation, and which resulted in arguably their best work.
