That's not the one I saw. The body shape was the same, but the pickup was mounted on a rail that was parallel to the strings. EDIT: Here's a link with a photo of the sliding pickup I'm refering to, although it is on a wooden guitar: http://www.danarmstrong.org/londonguitar.html

Steven Tyler is now singing over the intercom at Home Depot. http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story/steven-tyler-serenades-shoppers_1129871 Who is this guy's agent?

I wasn't able to find an example online of the one with a sliding pickup. It's possible it wasn't a Dan Armstrong, but I don't know what else it could have been. Maybe it was a one-off. Judging by the band's equipment, they seemed to be sort of wealthy, so maybe it was a custom feature.

I've never played one plugged in, but I used to share a practice space with a band that had one, and I'd pick it up from time to time. It felt like a very solid, playable instrument. It had a single pickup that was mounted on a slider, and you could position it anywhere you wanted between the bridge and the neck. Are they all like that? I thought that was a really ingenious feature.

Steven Tyler is now on the karaoke circuit. http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2010/01/22/steven-tyler-sings-aerosmith-at-a-california-pubs-karaoke-night/

I didn't bother with the Sting solo album that is side two of this album. This would be a lot better if it weren't for the Mickey Mouse vocals.

I'd probably go see them again if they come around. Maybe not in a sports bar, though. Every time I think of the Great White fire in Rhode Island, I imagine that venue was almost exactly like the sports bar where I saw Ratt.

I saw Ratt in a sports bar in the '90s.

Doing a guaranteed money-loser Tyler-less tour/album is a pretty terrible way to buy a car/mansion.

Tyler's not going aywhere. Two days from now, if not later today, we'll get a contradictory report.

Small songwriting tricks of your favorite artists

I wouldn't call myself a songwriter, but I come up with a fair amount of song parts on the guitar. My main trick has been to learn a song then steal the parts and rearrange them. I didn't realize I was doing this until fairly recently. You'd be amazed how many different ways you can reconstruct Blackbird and Little Wing. -
Love it. They need to get back together.

Good call. Thing Fish is another one. Possibly the worst album of all time.

Thanks to my MP3 player running out of juice I was forced to listen to the radio on the drive in to work yesterday. As a result I was able to find a place to donate my tent and sleeping bags. WRFG (Radio Free Georgia) in Atlanta is accepting tents, and a number of other supplies to send to Haiti. Similar collections are probably taking place in most cities, so if you have tents, blankets, first aid kits, etc. that you'd like to donate keep an eye/ear open for an opportunity to donate them.

Am I the only one who is slightly afraid of learning about these things? -
If I was in the market for a new acoustic I'd look around for one of these: Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin All previous suggestions are probably better all purpose guitars, though.

Leno does fairly lengthy engagements in Las Vegas. he also does corporate events, if I'm not mistaken. Something tells me he doesn't do those things for free. http://www.mirage.com/entertainment/headlinersInfo.aspx?id=926 It was mentioned earlier in this thread that Leno makes more from stand-up than from TV. I find that almost impossible to believe, but it could be true, considering how much money flows into Vegas.
