  1. As you should. I thought your post was hilarious and exactly in the spirit of this thread. The Fat Boys are better than Run DMC.
  2. Great advice. Leave the rut behind...it's not like the song your stuck on vanishes forever. You can come back to it later with a fresh perspective and probably wind up with a better song in the end. Neil young has talked about songs that have taken him years to complete, so we shouldn't feel bad or uninspired when we hit a roadblock. I agree that this is a great thread. I've never written a complete song in my life (I've come close, but there's always one or two parts that someone else throws in to make it whole), but as a result of this thread I feel like I have some tools that I can us
  3. If you count Bush Sr.'s years as Reagan's VP it'd be 28 years.
  4. I've never heard them, but this guy's in the band, so neither I nor Keith Richards would argue:
  5. Thanks for the recommendations. I've added some of those to my Amazon wish list and will buy some next time I make a purchase. Sometimes I see Fotheringay albums in the dollar bin at a local record store***. I recently read "White Bicycles", which has a lot of stories about Denny/Fairport/Fotheringay, so I'm super motivated to get more of her stuff. ***EDIT: I might be mistaken on this. I probably actually saw Lindisfarne records in the dollar bin. I'm pretty sure I've never seen this record: Is this the only Fotheringay album?
  6. I have not heard her solo albums, but I'm a huge Fairport fan. I've always thought "Farewell Farewell" was Denny's most beautiful performance.
  7. I'd rather listen to Huey Lewis and the News than almost anything I've heard on college radio in the last decade.
  8. Yeah, stage presence only exists on American Idol.
  9. I had not seen them perform before, so I have no basis for comparison. I'm not making a judgment call on the quality of anyone's playing. They all played well. I'm just saying that all the bases were covered by the non-YLT musicians on stage (except the piano). I think they would have been just as good without Georgia and whoever that other guy is. As for her stage presence, I can't understand why she still appears so stiff and frightened on stage. She's been singing in a music group in LA for several years. Seems like she'd know how to work a stage a little better. Maybe it's an a
  10. Aside from the piano playing, Yo La Tengo's participation didn't serve any purpose at all. I'm on the fence with this cd. I've only heard two full songs and part of a third song. I want to like it, but I think I'm going to be mostly disappointed when I finally hear the whole thing.
  11. That's great! Drums have been my main instrument for a long time, but I've been getting more serious about playing guitar over the last couple years. I don't know if I can pinpoint exactly what the benefits are, but I feel strongly that one helps the other. It's kind of funny, now that I'm improving on the guitar and in the beginning stages of creating songs, I'm discovering things in my drumming that need improvement (or are just bad...maybe even somewhat obnoxious ). Good luck!
  12. Do you have access to a drumset? I know some guitarists who dabble with drums and have told me that their time spent on the drums somehow helps them out with their guitar playing.
  13. Tony Levin is back on bass, so that's a plus. He says on his website that recent rehearsals were "OK" but they expect to be in fine form in time for their first shows. I think the lineup wiill be: Fripp, Belew, Levin, and two drummers...Pat Mastelotto and the guy from Porcupine Tree. I'm not sure, but I think Trey Gunn will be absent from this lineup. I saw KC twice on the Thrak tour and once on the Construction of Light tour. The Construction of Light show was significantly weaker than the Thrak shows thanks to the absence of Levin and Bruford.
  14. Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (with Stan Lynch back on drums)
  15. I only saw them on their last tour. I passed on seeing them in tiny clubs a bunch of times. I regret that.
  16. Maybe. I thought it was the later version, but I can't say for sure.
  17. The original Feelies lineup. The original Walt Mink lineup. Ben Folds Five. King Crimson with Bill Bruford on drums. Kinks...duh. Flap. Firehose. oh, so many.
  18. Oh yeah, Sunless Saturday. Good one. I don't remember Fight the Youth. Maybe I'll get that album. Haven't heard it since the year it came out.
  19. I heard Fishbone's "Everyday Sunshine" on XM the other day. That was a pretty cool song.
  20. Cool to see Magnapop mentioned. I forgot they had a (pseudo) hit. I used to go see them in Atlanta when they were called Swell. Their bass player currently plays in this group: Anna Kramer & the Lost Cause http://www.myspace.com/annakramer
