  1. This is a band I want to like, but I can't deal with Patterson Hood's style of singing. Any time I don't care for a band, that's the reason with very few exceptions.
  2. Yes, for example, I like pre-Rollins Black Flag, early Redd Kross, even some of the pre-rap Beastie Boys, etc.
  3. Defend them. I'm convincable. Respect to them for starting a label (same goes to Mac & LAura from Superchunk, or anyone else who does it), but as a music act they are not good. Bad Religion.
  4. I hate to align myself with anyone who uses the word "brah," but I share that opinion. I know they have a rabid following, and they're an alright band, but what have they done to deserve being in the hall?
  5. I already answered this in post #546.
  6. The thing that was surprising about it is that you...the old ghuy who knows a lot...don't seem to think he's done anything worthy of induction, when in fact, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone more worthy in the "early influences" category.
  7. Massive influence on '80s guitar shredders. He should be in for sure.
  8. I would think the criteria is "What did this person or band do that was important in the history of rock and roll?" The answer is "He is credited as the inventer of the power chord. A guitar playing technique used in virtually every punk and heavy metal song." That's an immesurable influence. He also had an instrumental song banned because people thought it would incite violence. There has never been anything more rock and roll that that. Now, tell me what did Cat Stevens (who I like to listen to sometimes, btw) do to earn an induction? Or Hall & Oates (ditto)? Or, hell, The Repl
  9. I feel somewhat bad saying this, but I've been thinking of doing some weeding of my record collection and I think I'm going to start by getting rid of most of my Deep Purple records. I like them OK, but I never, ever listen to them and I'm all out of room.
  10. I'm surprised to hear you, of all people, say this.
  11. Most years, there are legacy acts that get nominated that are not particularly well known to the public. How well knwon someone is is not the criteria for induction. What's with the quotation marks?
  12. I think they'll be one of the easy picks and are almost certain to get in. Same goes for Link Wray. It'll be a major black eye on the credibility of the Hall if these two don't make it.
  13. Yeah, Butterfield probably should get in this year. They had a pretty major influence on a lot of things that soon followed...basically any band that had extended blues based guitar soloing.
  14. My predictions, where they differ from yours, in bold. The Meters are highly deserving of being inducted. Should be an easy shoe-in.
  15. The Jeff Beck/Beach Botys performance on Jimmy Fallon (from last night) is my favorite thing I've heard today.
  16. They were on Fallon last night doimng "Our Prayer" and "Danny Boy." I thought it was quite nice. http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/10/watch-brian-wilson-jeff-beck-al-jardine-and-david-marks-perform-on-fallon/
  17. Kim Sahttuck from The Muffs. Two years ago I never would have believed this was happening: Tonight: SHUGGIE OTIS!
  18. I agree the site should be working, but we're not "2-3 weeks into it." It's been less than two weks.
  19. Yeah, I've heard good reviews. Not having seen either of them, I intended to go when they announced this show, and was even offered free tix, but I didn't go because my cat was suffering through her final night.
