  1. There could be some truth to this. On one hand, old music stars are notorious for having pretty lame tastes in current music. On the other hand, Eno has a very progressive mind and might use opportunities such as working with big money acts like Coldplay, U2, etc. in part as a bankrolled workshop for his own ideas that he can later apply to his own projects. Why work out your ideas on your own dime if you can do it on someone else's?
  2. I agree, but every review said they sounded virtually indentical to Television and VU...two bands that don't sound alike. Anyway... Parquet Courts is a good enough band. I like what I've heard so far and the live show I watched online was pretty good, but I don't know if there's enough substance there for me to have any interest in them a year from now. I'd be happy if they win me over and prove me wrong, though.
  3. That makes logistical sense, but it still feels forced, especially since it's become so common. If you do a search for churches band chvrches is the first result.
  4. The young Gregg will be played by some guy in some band called New American Rejects.

    ZZ TOP

Foxey Lady? Jailhouse Rock? Definitely phoning it in.
  6. I just got one of these. Jesus Christ, there are some incredible sounds in this box.

    ZZ TOP

I recently watched a ZZ Top concert video that was on the one hour range. They played all the best knwon songs, but left out lots of really great album tracks. I could see them doing a great two hour show if their hearts weer in it.
  9. Surely I'm not the only one who is tired of such things as Waaves, Jaill, Haerts, Chvrches, and other intentional misspellings.
  10. Someome who was fucked up for years did something fucked up when they were fucked up.
  11. The Hentchmen - Campus Party. The shitty sound quality sounds good on their 45s, but doesn't work for a full length.
  12. Y'all have some pretty sweet instruments. Imagine if we gathered all our instruments in one place. It'd surely be one of the greatest collections of gear anywhere.

    ZZ TOP

That's a bummer. ZZ has been on my to-see list, but I might not bother. They typically play the lamest venue in town when they come to Atlanta. I hear the drummer phones it in and only tours so he can play golf on as many courses around the world as possible.
  15. Oh yeah, and there was this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBmCJEehYtU
  16. Some of my faves from this year are: Deerhunter: Back to the Middle Cate Le Bon: I think I Knew (Kinf od a bizarre song. The melody reminds me of Asian music, which is odd coming from a Welsh singer.) Hospitality: I Miss Your Bones (technically a 2014 song, but released as a teaser) Charles Bradley: Hurricaine Some of the Tunes on the Fuzz album are killers, but I don't know their song titles.
  17. Well, it's either that, or the other hot topic of the day: Gergg Allman narcing on his drug dealer 30-some years ago.
  18. I remember him saying some things along those lines. It's been so long that I don't remember specifics, but he made some boasts that were so ridiculous they were entertaining. To me, at least. It was almost like watching a movie with a character that is such an ass that they're likable, and once the movie is over you never have to or want to see, hear, or think about them again.
  19. I think it was 90, maybe 91. I'd probably hate JWH these days. Well, hate is too strong a word. Definitely not my thing, but he seemed pretty funny that night. All the recordings I've heard from him (admittedly few) seem like run of the mill earnest singer/songwriter stuff, but his live set was more like musical comedy.
  20. I agree. That's when I used to go see them regularly and those shows were incredible. I haven't kept up with them as much as I'd like, and I'm sure they're still excellent, but those early '90s shows were among the best concerts I've ever been to by any band.
