  1. I'm not a big fan of jazz vocals. I won't be surprised if that changes, though. My tastes in jazz have been changing as it is. When I got into jazz, my focus was on Coltrane and the Impulse universe. More abrasive types of things, I suppose. Now I'm more into Jackie McLean, Horace Silver. Hard bop, and what I guess you could call soul jazz is more my thing these days. I guess it's no different with pop or rock. I used to be heavily into punk, then '60s/70s guitar hero type of shit, then indie rock, then whatever, etc., but now I'm more into music that more heavily leans on vocal melodi
  2. I don't think there's anything special about the guitar playing of Randy Rhoads.
  3. What do you suppose the chances are that the auction winner will not "need" Tweedy to play on their song?
  4. I like those and the Blind Faith record, and a small number of songs from his solo career, but when it comes to his solo era, he's earned a lot by accomlishing very litte.
  5. I agree completely. I was asking because I wasn't sure if your "retarded" comment was directed at Dylan and his band, or at Nels commenting on Dylan and his band.

What do you mean by "endorse"? Jimi spoke highly of a number of other guitarists, including Clapton and Terry Kath, but that may be different than whatever his endorsement of Billy Gibbons was.
  7. Damn. Hope Butch is ok. I'll bet Jaimoe got one hell of a workout holding it down by himself.
  8. It's actually pretty shitty, price notwithstanding. I eat it because I get bored of the other options available near my workplace, and it is a little cheaper than most of the other things I have access to and am willing to eat. Their slogan, "It's good mood food," is more like 'Ashamed to tell my wife what I had for lunch food."
  9. Phish had a Gene Simmons impersonator onstage with them the first time I saw them. There was no way to know it at the time, but that run of shows (Roxy, Atlanta) has achieved mythic status in the Phish universe and has been officially released. I'm glad I got to see the first 1.5 shows of that run.
  10. I doubt I could name ten, much less best ten. but I'll try. Come and Get It. (not even technically post-Beatles) Maybe I'm Amazed I like a lot of the songs on McCartney, but I don't know the song names. Well, there you have it.
  11. For a minute there, I thought that said Matthew Sweet Klezmer Band,
  12. Let's go back to yesterday: EX HEX. Mary Timony's new band. Was a fun time.
  13. Spoiler Alert: Tonya will be doing more than opening. http://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/music/2014/03/06/after-throwing-muses-and-belly-tanya-donelly-goes-solo-with-little-help-from-her-friends/Zyxa50eT3NctqzGk6ZNxdP/story.html?s_campaign=8315
  14. I've seen him twice. Once in a small club and once in a theater. The club show (1999) was one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. The theater show was a bunch of old-timers glued to their seats, and nothing but new songs (new circa four years ago, aside from Tear Stained Letter for an encore). Despite the dull crowd, the band played great and Richard played what is surely one of the best guitar solos of all time.
  15. I would've tried to grab that book, but I've already read Skydog, Gregg's book, and Midnight Riders. I'll probably get this for my Kindle eventually. Nice of you to offer it up for free, Oil Can.
  16. What about termites? Wouldn't that pose a problem for a wooden boat?
  17. Cool. Hopefully they'll do a US tour with a date in Atlanta. Nels hasn't come to Atlanta in any capacity outside of Wilco since he joined the band. His last non-Wilco show here was with Carla Bozulich for the Red Headed Stranger tour in 2003.
  18. Nice! Did you play your new Tele at the show?
