  1. pretty good show...probably the worst Wilco show i've been to but that is by no means a bad thing. i agree the crowd didnt really seem to be into it and the set list was pretty run of the mill...i was hoping for some surprises. solid show none the less.

  2. I reaaly liked the Zwan album, actually...wish that would have taken off.

i actually quite enjoyed a number of those songs as well... i think the reason that they are so polarizing isnt because they are "doing something right" but rather Billy Corgan is a rediculous person who has really presented himself as a bit of a prick and a real whack job, most notably with his full page ad in the sun or whatever.

  3. you can get tickets to the Hiro ballroom show, if you go to ryanadamsarchive.com

i had tickets to this show in my basket!

then realized it was a 21+ show

i hate being 19 (que up some Cure song)

After reading the indie media roundup of Easy Tiger reviews today, I feel like RA got shafted. It seems like most of his fans consider this a strong release (at least 7 or 8/10 area), but the reviews tended to be around the 5 or 6 out of 10 area with not much to enthuse about. Seems like a review I would have written if I had only listened to the record about 2 or 3 times and then wrote about it instead of letting myself wrap my mind around it over repeated listens. I feel like a lot of the reviews got it all wrong, Easy Tiger ain't Ryan Adams-lite, it's just quality songwriting. I think many of his fans would agree this is really solid album, yes?

    yes!

  4. i don't think the logic is backwards at all. they are going for the largest common denominator...the denominator that buys CDs at big box retailers. the ones that actually buy them at indie stores are also the ones savvy enough to know they can get the bonus tracks somehwere online anyhow.

having X amout of different versions ofthe same release = SKU management issues = less margin $. the record companies are going to make sure they are getting their $ worth out of issuing a different version AND another thing being left out, is the pressure from the major retialers for a unique release just to carry it.

    music business.

obviously i realize that this is the most profitiable way to go about things, i just think its bordering on being tasteless and unethical. and since i doubt there will be any SP records after this one i guess they dont have to worry about burning any bridges behind them or maybe SP fans dont really care (i mean, they are buying a new record from the smashing pumpkins).

  5. yeah, but i think i've seen other (albeit more indie) bands do special releases on vinyl or w/ bonus stuff that bigger retailers can't and won't take. besides...how many people who shop at independently owned record shops are going there the latest smashing pumpkins?! c'mon.

i mean, if i liked smashing pumpkins enough to buy zeitgest (i do not) and knew i could get some bonus tracks at an indie store for a few bucks more than, say, Best Buy (who was only offering the regular version) i would go to the indie store and i think most music fans would too. the logic in this case is just backwards. also, i revoke my previous statement of saying the biggest travesty is the disservice to indpendent retailers and change that statement to say the biggest travesty here is the fact that the smashing pumpkins (or should i say "the smashing pumpkins") are releasing a record, albeit, on a fucking saturday...bastards

  6. I said this in another thread...I CAN'T BELIEVE PEOPLE BITCH ABOUT THIS WHEN THE BONUS TRACKS AND, EVEN MORE SO, THE ENTIRE ALBUM WILL LEAK ANYHOW. This isn't a new practice, they've been doing 'special' versions of albums for deifferent reatilers for several years now. Oh, the humanity. Pffft.

pretty much true (IMHO, of course) ... i think the main travesty here is the disservice to independent retailers... but the pumpkins are a major label band who are not that good and i would be surprised if zeitgest sold more than 777 copies anyway

  7. Can you imagine if Volkswagen stuck Glenn Kotche in their Palo Alto research facility? Who knows what he'd do. Maybe he'd write an album. Maybe he'd replace their "you left your lights on" beep. And maybe he'd let his crickets loose in the server room. Hey, it wouldn't be research if you knew what you were looking for, right?

this is a funny image for me

  8. I'm really out of it as far as this next comment goes, but how popular are The Cure right now? Those seem like some big venues???

seriously, could they even sell out half of MSG? anyways are they coming out with a new record or something? i bought their most recent on the power of the first single (end of the world) and was really dissapointed with the record

  9. After what Ryan pulled the last time he was in NYC (storming off the stage for the closing night of a 3 night run at Town Hall an hour before curfew), I promised myself that I wouldn't get sucked in again. But, these new songs, his voice, this band, the reviews of the current tour from folks on here, etc. Hiro Ballroom??

It is mind-boggling to me that I have tix to Wilco at Warsaw (basically the one show any NYC fan could have asked for) and I am considering trying to get tickets to see Ryan Adams. Unf*ckingbelieveable.

well if you go for ryan, ill take your warsaw tix!

  10. Fantastic show, probably my favorite of the weekend, mainly because I managed to get backstage. Got to watch the show from just over the guys' right shoulders. I have attempted to attach a photo of my view. Never done it before, so it may not work.

As has been proved before and restated by this photo, Pat is not in Wilco.

  11. well shit I might have to make it down to chicago just for the STS9 aftershow at house of blues. That will be wicked!

STS9 seems like a lot of fun. That kind of music is generally not my thing but I am definitely going to try to catch them at Lolla and maybe this aftershow.

Awesome. Really illustrates the disfunction in the band, but not via knock-down fights or anything...they just barely communicate w/ each other offstage, but (sans a Lovering meltdown in Chicago) when they get ONSTAGE they melt faces. Really interesting to watch both deal and Santiago reaccustom themselves to life on the road as well...for different reasons.

Cool extras as well, including a bit of Charles and the Deal sisters visiting Siguor Ros (sp?) at their studio in Iceland and Daniel Lanois working on the docs score. I think even non-Pixies fans would appreciate it as a road doc. Thumbs-up.

I thought this was an interesting look at the band in its current state but as a movie it was pretty dull. Watched it with a bunch friends (about half of which were pixies fans) no one really liked it.
