  1. I have heard that movie was kind of bullshit.
  2. Egypt's army is on our side (for the $1 billion a year in gear we buy them, they oughtta be) and that's who's in charge of that country, so it'll be OK. (For the Israelis, that is.) But still there's Iran and Yemen. Interesting how drone strikes in the latter have increased quite a bit after we got our diplomats out.
  3. CAN you get raw peanuts this far north of the Mason-Dixon line?
  4. I don't know if I can get raw peanuts this far north of the Mason-Dixon, but if I can I'll give it a try.
  5. My crockpot was a double from the cavalcade of gifts my sister got at her first wedding. "The only good thing to come out of that marriage," says my sister of the crockpot.
  6. I gotta say, I kind of regret not getting my pistol permit 20 years ago when old Sheriff Quinlan gave them out to anyone who could complete the paperwork, because he believed people shouldn't need a permit to carry a pistol.
  7. He gets about as much play these days as Spooky Tooth.
  8. Mos def one of the tippy-top composers, was Wolfie.
  9. Thank God you can still scrape up enough enthusiasm to post on a Wilco fansite. I myself go through phases where I don't listen to Wilco, so I don't and then I want to, so I do - without regret or some feeling of guilt that I do not listen to them enough. This is what Maslow calls self-actualization.
  10. I think you gotta wait for some of the GOP-appointed Supremes to depart before that lawsuit would succeed.
  11. I don't accept that. If you've taken up smoking since like 1970, there is no way you could not be aware of the risks. Tobacco companies make it easier for you to get hooked, sure, but to say they made you smoke is an irresponsible and erroneous abrogation of personal responsibility.
  12. Mmm. Maybe. One could blame the NRA for retarding the progress of background checks, which maybe might have kept this obvious cra-zor from getting a gun, but probably not. America's love of guns and societal delight in killing goes far beyond and dates to way before there was even an NRA, though.
  13. How is the NRA specifically to blame for this? Connect some dots for me.
  14. I knew I guy who was into dressing up as a Civil War officer. Ended up stabbing his girlfriend to death on my birthday.
  15. I wear a boonie hat sometimes without irony.
  16. Zimmerman is an asshole, or at least a stupid sap, and is the exact kind of person who should NOT be allowed to have a gun, period. That gun, plus his racist and paranoid outlook, gave him the false courage to get out of his truck and start shit with a total stranger. He found Martin guilty of walking while black, and gave him the death penalty for it. I may be made to travel to Florida at some point in my life, but it will be under duress, as it is a state full of seniles and misguided fools which deserves all the scorn decent people can heap upon it.
  17. I support him and am grateful to him for what he's done, but will point this out. Ellsberg didn't run. He stayed to face the music.
  18. This just in: WAMC'S THE ROUNDTABLE BROADCASTS LIVE FROM SOLID SOUND FESTIVAL AT MASS MOCA ALBANY, NY (06/19/2013)(readMedia)-- WAMC's The Roundtable is thrilled to once again be part of the amazing -and always surprising- Solid Sound Festival, North Adams, MA with a live broadcast from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, June 21st. This special edition of The Roundtable will focus on the immense variety that the festival has to offer, with artist interviews and live performances hosted by The Roundtable's Joe Donahue, and WAMC's President and CEO, Dr. Alan Chartock. Says Chartock, "We're so proud t
  19. Actually, this is what blasphemy looks like in the modern age. Go out and get a sense of perspective this weekend.
  20. I do not get his whiny ass at all. He's like Ryan Adams, but somehow with less dignity and vastly less talent.
