  1. It's gonna suck, is what it's going to do. Telecommuting will become huge. It'll take 20-30 years for a transition away from a almost-exclusively petroleum-based economy to whatever the next thing will be. It won't be all bad, but it will be different.
  2. This paragraph rules: Schmitt said he is aware of the great dangers inherent in the possibility of imminent peak oil but he, like Reinhardt, hopes that greater efficiencies in electrical technology and conservation will enable modern society to continue.
  3. Hillary to speak at noon, suspend her campaign, endorse Barack.
  4. It is my understanding that ultra-pasteurization is achieved by very briefly heating the milk to a very high temperature, killing more bacteria than in regular pasteurization, hence the longer shelf life.
  5. No need to apologize. That band sucks, and there is no shame in saying so.
  6. http://www.newstatesman.com/north-america/...-vote-usa-media An interesting read, with a lot of truth.
  7. That Obama speech was pretty damn good, and pretty damn close to my own stance on the war.
  8. Because both have been around so long that nobody remembers what it was like before these things existed, and thus they are taken for granted and fall under suspicion.
  9. That counts for something, as that was a highly unpopular stance to take at that time. I certainly trust his moral compass, more so than McCain's.
  10. Dudes, I don't mean to harsh anybody's mellow, but really, if you had seen what my friend has gone through, in terms of hospitalizations, pain, sickness, debilitation and bouts of suicidal depression over being so gd sick, you would not take the possibility of contracting brucellosis lightly. Carrie freely admits she fucked up by eating the Spanish cheese, and I imagine precautions can be taken so the raw milk does not have brucellosis in it, but still, I'm taking a pass.
  11. Since he was not in the U.S. Senate at the time, not voting to invade Iraq was pretty easy.

  13. True, but no way of knowing that in advance. Michigan and Florida wanted to pull a fast one, gambling that the national committee would let them get away with it. It is up to the registered Democrats in those states to hold their party leadership accountable, if they choose to. I think Hillary would have taken Florida in a normal primary situation, off the top of my head, because she did much better with teh seniors.
  14. Stonyfield Farms yogurt is THE SHIZZ.
  15. Dude. I have got to get back to Cooperstown to check them out. I also want to go see the Cardiff Giant and that baseball place.
  16. The Times story quotes Howard Wolfson by name saying Hillary will endorse Obama on Saturday. I would take that as a good sign there will be no independent run.
  17. Yeah. Congratulations to the Red Wings and their fans.
  18. NYT reporting Hillary will end campaign on Saturday. I voted for Obama in the NY primary, but I feel awful for Hillary. I think it is important for the strident Obamaistas to remember that despite all the shit she took and the fact she had no chance, a whole hell of a lot of Democrats still voted for her.
  19. Oh yeah. I forgot about that. I guess nobody really wants a nuclear waste site in their back yard. Huh.
  20. After spending quite a bit of time in New Mexico, I conclude that there is enough empty space (miles and miles and miles of nothing) out there to build a facility to store it.
