People died, many quite horribly, so we could go out and have a say in who governs us. And before you start, please stow all the cynicism and pouty "I'm not going to participate because my guy/party/political philosophy never wins" hooey. While it is frayed around the edges and has never fully attained its ideal, our Republic's quasi-democracy is a lot better than a lot of countries' non-quasi dictatorships. Thanks.

For some reason, this won't be on NYC-area public TV until this coming weekend.

I liked Soylent Green better than The Omega Man, but I will take any Heston dystopian sci-fi movie any day. -

I was a teenager during the 1980s. It was in some ways better than today, but it wasn't all that, and I am perpetually amused and puzzled by the way it's become enshrined by today's youth. Then again, we did the same thing with the '70s, so maybe in each generation there is a longing for when they were little kids and still, presumably, happy. -

If George Orwell was alive today, he's be really pissed at the use of the adjective "Orwellian" to mean "insanely fascistic." Reason, freedom and justice had no stronger defender than George Orwell. -

Wez: They kill us, we kill them! Kill them! Kill them! Kill! Kill! The Humungus: Be still my dog of war. I understand your pain. We've all lost someone we love. But we do it my way! We do it my way. Fear is our ally. The gasoline will be ours. Then you shall have your revenge. -

I don't know where it will end. I don't think Ludditry is the answer, though. Probably a combination of technological improvement and some sort of control of the birth rate. -

Who will the republican candidate be?

Ron Paul will get the fringe vote, but not much else. It'll be interesting to see whether the conservative wing or the moderate wing gets their man. -
All your base is awesome! Best wishes!

I can see why the Dems would not block funding for the troops, but I agree that they should have held their ground on this one. The Justice Dept. will be fine without another Bush hack at the helm.

That reminds me of the time my dad dressed me up as Fidel Castro for Halloween. I was 7, I think.

Lewinsky was a good news story, but I wonder if it really changed the amount of support for Bill one way or the other. I'm sure Bob Livingston and Henry Hyde kind of wish the whole subject had never been brought up.

Hey, I didn't say you or any other Republican are necessarily all or any of those things. That was merely my analysis of the GOP's major talking points. Why you, or anyone else, belongs to/votes for the GOP is their own business. This is America, after all.

"I find your lack of faith disturbing," Hillary will say, and then crush their tracheae with a mere thought. NOBODY campaigns better than the Clintons. Remember how absurd it seemed at first that she could be a senator from a state she lived in for what, like a week?

I know. I'm sorry for putting you on the spot like that. W. and Iraq shocked the third-party right out of me. What we really need is a new new new deal.

It would seem in this case the laws of economics have superseded the laws of nation-states.
