  1. What about 11/28/09? I LOVE this version.

I'm glad you had a great time last night. I'm listening to the show right now and look forward to hearing all the Livephish boards after each show. Sounds good so far.

I believe your speaking of albany? If so, I thought this was way overrated, they don't make a lot of the changes and there seemed to be a lack of direction. I preferred the -7 below out of both of those jams.

  2. So, I made it to the show last night and lets just say the exceeded my expectations. I thought that there was no way this band would come back playing as strong as they had been in Miami but they did at some points playing even better. The show was without a doubt the best structured I've seen since the return ( I mean look at that first set! What year is it?95?)everything was played extremely well. The composed sections of all the tunes sounded great but even when they weren't taking the songs on long journeys there was tons of great interplay and jamming (check out the wolfmans, nothing to far out there but they kill it).

At the end of last year my biggest complaints were Fishman, page and a few songs that were just not coming together. That all changed last night, page and fishman both played as if they had something to prove. They made it known that they were back on board both playing some excellent fills and solos (yeah thats right fishman antelope solo). SOme of the songs were also coming back together (if memory serves right Reba was nailed as was silent in the morning which while not complex just never felt right last year).

There was also some great improv in the second set, the Light>Maze, Ghost, Limb x Limb sequence was the highlight of the second set. Ghost (another song that wasn't right until miami also sounded fantastic). Limb x limb featured a unique vocal jam tacked on the end.

The night also featured a surprise in a new song "Show of Life". Not only was the song perfectly placed but it fills a void in the phish catalog: the emotional ballad with a soaring guitar part, the deadheads on here know what I'm talking about, you know the post space jerry ballad, the kind of tune that brings a tear to the eye. AWESOME cap to a great night.

IF YOUR ON THE FENCE GET OFF! If last night was a sign it was this: 2009 was a dress rehearsal, 2010 is gonna be the real deal.

  3. Isn't that how most countries do it though? Not that that makes it any better. So really war is when two countries send their poor and disenfranchised out to kill each other?

Absolutly but thats my point. While I'm pissed at what happened it seems silly that bands from the evil empire would boycott their homelands best friend. Secondly I would think if they cared about the palestian people they wouldn't have booked the show in the first place, its not like this is the first time the Israelis have done wrong. This was nothing compared to the bombing that occurred last year.

  4. Maybe this has no bearing on how different the Israeli government is from the American one, or their attitudes on war, but Israel is the only country in the world that has a mandatory military draft on all its citizens.

Too bad we don't have a draft in the US maybe we would have ended these wars by now. At least in Israel everyone has to take part in their governments corrupt actions, in the US we let the minorities and the poor fight our battles while the rest of us live normal lives.

And I know that the Pixies and Elvis would never boycott the US for all the deaths this country has caused in Iraq and Afganistan. It's just a shame all around.- Matt Z

EXACTLY. Not to mention the US is funding Israels wrong actions. I'm sure some of you are aware that we are giving them some 10 billion dollars. When it comes down to it the American government is the one you should be protesting if your angry with Israel, we give them the money to do this stuff and then protect them from the UN.

  5. I understand your point, remphish, but Israel is a functioning democracy and it's government (more or less) represents it's people. If some kid in Tel Aviv gets bummed out about the Pixies not playing, starts to ask questions, and comes to the conclusion that they aint's gonna get his vote, then the Pixies small protest will have been a success, and said kid will have received much more than a fond concert memory.

Neil Young didn't go to Kent State and play a show, he wrote "Ohio."

I have also been very upset over Israel's action but this argument is kind of silly. It was not the university that killed the students it was the united states government.

As others have said plenty of bands play plenty of places where the governments are committing atrocities upon other populations and their own (like the one you mentioned, the united sates). Where is the call for bands to boycott the united states(outside of the state of Arizona)?

  6. Brown County State Park has some nice trails. About an hour (or less) from the Creek. Too bad the shows aren't in October - the foliage is REALLY sweet there at that time.

Looks like I got the Creek tickets and that I;ll be driving onward to Great Smokey National park afterwords.

  7. OK, let's plan ahead. Who will I see at The Creek 0n 8/12 & 13? (I'm looking at YOU, MattZ ;) )

I may actually be at the creek. Right now the plan is CHicago and the creek. Since you live in indy MB maybe you could reccommend me some hiking? Doesn't need to be too close. I'm thinking we'll do the shows thursday and friday and then go camping and hiking for sat-mon. Know anywhere?

  8. Nothing against you AT ALL jc4, but that thought just makes me kinda sad.

yeah I mean I'm really not trying to be negative. It just seems evident but it really is nobody's business except theirs. I hear there was some kind of blow out on the phil zone where phil and jill were posting the other day I don't know what happened though.

  9. Last night in Chicago:

I: Playin in the Band > Born Cross-Eyed > Eyes of the World > Jack Straw > Wharf Rat > Uncle John's Band > China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider

II: Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the Mountain, New Potato Caboose > St. Stephen > The Eleven > The Other One > So Many Roads, Help on the Way > Slipknot! > Franklin's Tower

E: Box of Rain > Johnny B. Goode

    Wow.

    Great job jill lol

  10. More of a percussionist, didn't have a full kit, just a lot of stuff to bang on.

Yeah, the chicks really added to Passenger. Not really sure why they weren't used on Unbroken Chain though, they would have really helped there. Considering there was female vox on the album version, you would think they'd be used. Maybe they're paid by the song :-)

other guy is jay lane from ratdog, who i personally can't stand on the drums. I'd be curious though to hear his percussion work, never herd him play without a kit.

  11. Yeah, the manager's make the set lists most nights? Kinda odd. Nice set lists, though....

Very odd and too many gives weight to the jill being a control freak rumors. I can see how there has been all these inner group problems with that kind of dynamic.

  12. So I was just reading this http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20100218/ENTERTAINMENT/2190302/1114/The-Dead-finally-rise-in-Delaware

and found this to be really BEAT

Where do the night's set lists for Furthur come from? I see everything from Grateful Dead tunes to Bob Dylan and Beatles covers in the set lists from previous shows.

It's a collaborative effort. Bob has input. I have input. And so does my wife, Jill, and Bob's manager, Matt Busch. We all hammer it out together, but it's mostly Jill and Matt, to be perfectly frank with you.

  13. Damn, never herd the SNACK benefit set may have to listen to that tonight.

The other day I grabbed the 4/29/71 that charlie miller recently fixed up. Sounds great! Love the minglewood on this, I was never really a fan of this tune but this early take is beyond awesome. Lots of great points in this set esp. the Alligator>drums>Jam. Had never herd the boys play I Second That Emotion either. Love how after listening for over five years there is still something new always.

  14. Yes - Ratdog was there last summer.

Or was it Phil Lesh, I can't recall.

seriously man, I think you need to go in for one day. Every year I hear you tell us how you live down the road and every year you tell your not going. GO A-MAN GO!

  15. It would be great for an official releases of Sunshine Daydream; the only bits of that movie I have seen are the one's on YouTube.

I preety sure the whole thing (at least all circulating footage, I hear there is a video of Sing me Back Home in the vault) is available on google video.

  16. Missed that.

This 2nd set is not starting off very well.

The UJB was a bit of train wreck, never heard this second song before. Peaceful Mary????

peaceful valley, ryan adams. Phil covered a bunch of his stuff with the barraco/cambell/sless/osborne/osby line up. Not really liking this version.

The jam is coming along well though.

  17. The vocals or the guitar playing; or both?

I think he's alright. I would say I would prefer him than Warren Haynes. I love Haynes, but he very hit or miss with the Dead.

I agree with you on Haynes, but John plays the parts well but I his singing and his guitar playing don't do it for me.

Also, I think I herd Bob say he wanted to rap it up too lol
