Wilco — 9/16/12, Columbia, MO (Outdoors On 9th Street)

lol, of course I believe you! setlist.fm is a fan based clearinghouse, so I cross referenced the Blue Note/Columbia on Wilcobase and found the search function a bit messy for my sleep deprived brain. Mostly wanted to get a feel for why tiny Columbia is the 'homiest towniest' hometown they play (aside from the obvious). That setlist looks incredible. Wish I had a rock and roll time machine. -

Thanks Paul! So appreciative of the gentle management of this venue. The Blue Note has been doing this for a very long time, and it shows. Kudos to Richard King and his staff for a most enjoyable afternoon and evening hanging on 9th street. As to the setlist, this may be the first time I've heard the band perform an acoustic version of Spiders. While the band was introduced, the emcee asked for a show of hands from folks who had seen all 6 shows at the Blue Note. I was curious this morning about how many shows Wilco had actually played there. Wilco - Outdoors on 9th Str -

Back in the day, Analogman's copy of this was passed around through various methods and autographed by all that read it. I think it got sucked into the rock & roll ether several years ago.

Photos posted on fb last night made me fearful that Nels would jettison himself off the tiny stage. Homey little venue. Too bad it's all tore down now. -
Waydaminnit. Was that a pic of the Dalai Lama and Mister Rogers going for the fo knucks?

Oh I don't know. You're talking about dudes barely past teenage years who used drugs and drank a lot. Why would you expect their interpersonal/managerial skills to be highly developed? The relationship between Jay Bennett and Tweedy as portrayed in Kot's book seemed classically codependent to me. And in the sad light of Bennett's death, tragic in a Days of Wine and Roses kind of way. Ultimately all just speculation anyway. I wasn't there. I do know guys in their early 20s that drink a lot. I sure wouldn't judge their mature character based on the behavior I see now. Can't blame an egg for

I did in fact run across If It Ain't Stiff, and wondered whether it would be a good doc.The subject seems dense with possibility. I will make a point to watch both of those films, Andrew. Thanks! -

That is unfortunate. I hope he was ok. His crumpling upon my feet was completely unexpected as he did not appear to be intoxicated. -

As you know, bbop is wonderful company and encyclopedic in his knowledge of rock and roll. I have a few black holes in my personal music history, so our conversation about Lowe and Stiff records precipitated some internet excavation. Nick Lowe, Ian Dury, Dave Edmunds and Elvis Costello were all familiar names to me. Yet except for Costello, occupied only peripheral awareness. I was busy in the late 70s. These guys were masterful lyricists and tunesmiths. Thanks to Wilco and bbop, a bit of musical history has been colored in for me. Lowe's hotness has not cooled one degree. http://www -

Eh, I'm pretty sure it was a management decision peculiar to that venue. We had been at the venue most of the afternoon and the second group in line. About an hour before the show started, a guy that worked for the Uptown (not for the security contractor), canvassed the line. Basically if you gave him 5 bucks, you could go into the bar, get a free drink and wait until the show started. I asked the dude a couple times whether the people paying the extra would have a time advantage getting down to the stage. He said that they would not. I had two underage kids with me and didn't want to take -

"...I KNOW you didn't wait in the rain. You would have melted. There is a guy who usually stands where you are standing. You are not him and it's throwing me off. I have been to shows where the first 5% of the line were awarded early entry, but it's only a sleazy Walmart management mentality that let's one buy for cheap what hasn't been earned. It was good to see Wilco, and Nick Lowe stole my heart clean away. A "something for everyone" setlist and sweaty encore. Happy to be there and laughing still when a man as big as a tree crumpled at my feet then jumped back up, finished his beer and -
I have a feeling I will be near Bbop on the rail, as the plan is to be second in line after him. Sweaty and incontinent is the way I like it, or as oceanman once described me, "Dance off pance off." :woot I like to think that one fine day Lord Flashheart, you and I might sweat as one!
