  1. For posterity and such, the complete setlist as played: Nobody Dies Anymore Honey Combed Flowering Summer Noon World Away New Moon High As Hello Desert Bell new song-Why Why Why Love Like A Wire [Diane Izzo] Wait For Love Low Key Fake Fur Coat Diamond Light, Pt. 1 I Am Trying Break Your Heart* Radio King* Please Tell My Brother* Hesitating Beauty* New Madrid* Born Alone* Jesus, etc.* Passenger Side* (started and restarted) Laminated Cat (aka Not For The Season)* I'm The Man Who Loves You* ---------------------------------------- Please Don't Let Me Be So Understood (live debut) Only The Lord
  2. But of course! He sort of shrugged when they started played the opening chords, as if to say, 'Of course we're gonna play this one. Too good of a pandering opportunity not to.'" Haha. Jeff had some great banter about Akron, in general. About trying to go to Chrissie Hynde's restaurant but finding out it had shut down because "not enough of you went there"; about "whatever horrible, twisted things you did to those people" to cause them to become Devo; and about loving "your town, your canal, your decaying infrastructure."
  3. I was just kidding...haha. I'll never give this up! (Just like tonight's show will go on forever...;-)) But nice work on being quick and accurate! I take your point about the show, but I guess they've set the bar pretty high for themselves. Just wanted to remind people that it's their second show back in a year. They got to rehearse a little bit, I'm sure, but every show they do will probably get a little better (at least as far as the playing goes and hopefully the setlists will follow).
  4. Once again, jcap1767 for the win on the posting of the setlist. I might be able to finally retire! Beg to differ about a "disappointing" setlist, though. Any show with a full-band True Love Will Find You In The End is a pretty unique one. I seem to be unable to look it up on Wilcoworld (we miss you Wilcobase!), but I gather that song has only been played by the full band a few times ever. Maybe less than 15, unless they did it a lot in the real early days? So to get a beautiful version of that tonight to close the main set was a real treat. I mean, there were quite a few repeats from Colum
  5. Don't really have a tremendous amount to add, but I'll "sign off" on the accuracy of the setlist posted above by jcap1767. The band played exactly what was on the printed setlist with the exception of The Lonely 1, which was listed as the show closer but got cut. The crew was actually bringing out the necessary guitars/implements for that one, but Jeff waved them off. It would've been an interesting choice to end the show, to be sure. Obviously it was great to see the band play again after nearly a year off. For the most part, they seemed pretty focused on playing the repertoire again and ge
  6. Surprised that we (or at least I) haven't heard from the Tweedy management folks about this yet. Or maybe we have and I missed it. Anyway, a cool incentive to get out to your local independent record shop for all you completists... http://modern-vinyl.com/2014/08/29/tweedy-7-includes-coupon-for-lp/
  7. That was the band they were in together that I think may have done like one show (which I unfortunately missed).
  8. Glad I could be of service! I fully encourage note-taking at shows...just try and do it discreetly, so you don't get "busted" by those on stage. Other tips: Always bring a backup pen, if possible. And in a pinch, a good napkin can fill in when you don't have usable paper (that's actually what I used to jot down the Watkins setlist, mostly).
  9. OK then...I definitely didn't know who it was either! Anyway, here's what I came up with for the setlist for the Watkins Family Hour show: -You And Me (Sara and Sean Watkins on violin and acoustic guitar, respectively; Sara lead vox) -bluegrass instrumental 1 (Sara and Sean Watkins) -Damaged (Sara and Sean Watkins; Sean lead vox) -Long John Dean (Sara and Sean and Willie Watson on banjo; Willie lead vox) -Mexican Cowboy aka The Hills Of Mexico [traditional] (Willie Watson) -Cradle Your Device (Sean and Tom Brosseau on acoustic guitar; Tom lead vox) -Today Is A Bright New Day (Sean Watkins a
  10. Thanks! Love that the "setlist" was just the list of performers...haha. I have it all scrawled down, basically, but it was dark in there so it'll take a little time to decipher it all. Should have it posted by tomorrow. Who was the guy playing piano? Was that the guy from Milk Carton Kids?
  11. I was gonna ask if anyone else made it to this show! It was a lot of fun and definitely captured the collaborative, freewheeling vibe of Largo (in LA where they usually do the Watkins Family Hour shows). Of course, with so much talent in that small theater, it was like the WFH on steroids! I can probably come up with the setlist, or pretty close — not sure of the titles of the instrumentals Sara and Sean played, for instance — if anyone's interested.
  12. Running out of juice on my phone, so I'll have to put off a fuller report until I get home but for now I'll just say that two moments I'll remember from the TWEEDY set were a) Darin's big leap during Only The Lord Knows that genuinely scared the crap out of Mavis and the sun coming out for maybe the first time all day at just the perfect moment in California Stars. Anyway, for now, here was the complete setlist as played: Diamond Light, Pt. 1* Flowering* Summer Noon* Honey Combed*# Hazel* World Away* New Moon*# High As Hello*# Low Key*# Fake Fur Coat& I Am Trying To Break Your Heart^ Ne
  13. Nice! Rehearsing for Mavis at Newport, perhaps? That may be the first time Jeff's done that one in a regular (i.e. non living room show) setting...
  14. Ah, Nana...you know my Portuguese is far worse than your English! But I'm glad you and your Brazilian "gang" were all able to make it to the show; they must have some fast computers down in São Paulo... I was remembering this morning one part of the interview with Jeff and Spencer that surely won't make it to air, when they were asking Spencer about his future plans, whether he was going to pursue music, etc. Somehow Northwestern (my alma mater) came up — I think maybe they had done a previous taping of Sound Opinions with Jeff/Wilco there or something — and they were kind of gently poking
  15. Not to be a noodge, but I think I'm contractually obligated whenever I see this (even though in most cases it might just be a typo) to correct it and say...there's only one key! Anyway, just wanted to say that my friend Robert just posted to his blog about last night's show with a short piece and some of the few photos that were allowed, so I figured I'd link it here. He didn't mention it in the blog post, but I think he might have been one of the photographers at stage left that annoyed Darin and/or Jeff toward the beginning of the musical portion of the show (although in his defense, I'm
  16. I have to say I was a bit surprised that Diamond Light Pt. 1 made it onto the record, just because it seemed so different musically than most of the other songs (although lyrically, I see now that it's of a piece with the other Sukierae material). At any rate, I see your point about variety. It's intense live, definitely, though I thought it maybe worked better when they were playing it as an encore in the "early days."
  17. Wow, I'm genuinely surprised that not a single person has posted about this one yet. I guess I'll do my duty. (For the record I won't say what I was writing, but it was probably the setlist...so I guess my getting "busted" should serve some purpose...haha. ). Anyway, to start off, I should say that I see bands at Lincoln Hall all the time but for some reason I always forget just how intimate it can be. It's hard to describe, but you really can hear most everything in there and if you're standing close to the stage, it can feel like you're on the stage. There aren't too many venues where I'v
  18. I was gonna post this a while ago when I first heard this one, but for some reason (maybe it's just the similar rhythm caused by the three-word phrases) Leonard Cohen's Take This Waltz immediately came to mind for me.
  19. I made it down to Reggie's last night as well, after getting a tip from a buddy, and it was a blast. I imagined that's sort of what it was like to see Lucinda in a sweaty Texas honky-tonk back in the day, or at least as close as I'll come to it. I think it's cool that she and her team went to the trouble to find a venue to play in and put on a good show, for free no less, when they certainly didn't have to do that... In case anyone was interested here's what she played: Can't Let Go Pineola Drunken Angel I Lost It new song-Something Wicked This Way Comes new song-Protection Out Of Touch Ch
  20. Personally I'd go to the Art Institute, although it may be especially crowded because it's close to the Taste and people will be looking for stuff to do like you.
  21. I just heard it's cancelled. Not sure if that's true yet.
  22. Any chance they cancel/postpone this show? As it is, I'm sure attendance will be way down on account of the weather.
  23. Very cool! Looks like some awesome people on that, including Swamp Dogg (!) :banana
  24. Not to completely hijack this thread, but yeah this is the problem nowadays. People expect quality journalism, but aren't willing to pay for it. And the advent of blogs and phone photography has made any jackass think they're qualified to be a journalist (or at least do a decent job of reporting/reviewing). Signed, Somewhat Bitter Ex-Journalist.
  25. Someone was gonna do this, eventually...so you're welcome:
