  1. Nice! Rehearsing for Mavis at Newport, perhaps? That may be the first time Jeff's done that one in a regular (i.e. non living room show) setting...
  2. Ah, Nana...you know my Portuguese is far worse than your English! But I'm glad you and your Brazilian "gang" were all able to make it to the show; they must have some fast computers down in São Paulo... I was remembering this morning one part of the interview with Jeff and Spencer that surely won't make it to air, when they were asking Spencer about his future plans, whether he was going to pursue music, etc. Somehow Northwestern (my alma mater) came up — I think maybe they had done a previous taping of Sound Opinions with Jeff/Wilco there or something — and they were kind of gently poking
  3. Not to be a noodge, but I think I'm contractually obligated whenever I see this (even though in most cases it might just be a typo) to correct it and say...there's only one key! Anyway, just wanted to say that my friend Robert just posted to his blog about last night's show with a short piece and some of the few photos that were allowed, so I figured I'd link it here. He didn't mention it in the blog post, but I think he might have been one of the photographers at stage left that annoyed Darin and/or Jeff toward the beginning of the musical portion of the show (although in his defense, I'm
  4. I have to say I was a bit surprised that Diamond Light Pt. 1 made it onto the record, just because it seemed so different musically than most of the other songs (although lyrically, I see now that it's of a piece with the other Sukierae material). At any rate, I see your point about variety. It's intense live, definitely, though I thought it maybe worked better when they were playing it as an encore in the "early days."
  5. Wow, I'm genuinely surprised that not a single person has posted about this one yet. I guess I'll do my duty. (For the record I won't say what I was writing, but it was probably the setlist...so I guess my getting "busted" should serve some purpose...haha. ). Anyway, to start off, I should say that I see bands at Lincoln Hall all the time but for some reason I always forget just how intimate it can be. It's hard to describe, but you really can hear most everything in there and if you're standing close to the stage, it can feel like you're on the stage. There aren't too many venues where I'v
  6. I was gonna post this a while ago when I first heard this one, but for some reason (maybe it's just the similar rhythm caused by the three-word phrases) Leonard Cohen's Take This Waltz immediately came to mind for me.
  7. I made it down to Reggie's last night as well, after getting a tip from a buddy, and it was a blast. I imagined that's sort of what it was like to see Lucinda in a sweaty Texas honky-tonk back in the day, or at least as close as I'll come to it. I think it's cool that she and her team went to the trouble to find a venue to play in and put on a good show, for free no less, when they certainly didn't have to do that... In case anyone was interested here's what she played: Can't Let Go Pineola Drunken Angel I Lost It new song-Something Wicked This Way Comes new song-Protection Out Of Touch Ch
  8. Personally I'd go to the Art Institute, although it may be especially crowded because it's close to the Taste and people will be looking for stuff to do like you.
  9. I just heard it's cancelled. Not sure if that's true yet.
  10. Any chance they cancel/postpone this show? As it is, I'm sure attendance will be way down on account of the weather.
  11. Very cool! Looks like some awesome people on that, including Swamp Dogg (!) :banana
  12. Not to completely hijack this thread, but yeah this is the problem nowadays. People expect quality journalism, but aren't willing to pay for it. And the advent of blogs and phone photography has made any jackass think they're qualified to be a journalist (or at least do a decent job of reporting/reviewing). Signed, Somewhat Bitter Ex-Journalist.
  13. Someone was gonna do this, eventually...so you're welcome:
  14. Didn't want to steal your thunder, man! Haha. Thanks for the report (both personally and on here). Sounds like you had a pretty great weekend! :canada
  15. I agree that soundwise it would be a lot better at Pritzker, but I think they probably need to keep Petrillo because Pritzker is just too big for most acts if it's a ticketed show. I suppose they could make the lawn free there and just ticket the seating area, but even then it might be too big for something that isn't Wilco? I don't know. As far as the time question, almost all outdoor shows in Chicago (unless there are extenuating circumstances or they have special permission) have to be over by 10. So I would imagine that the show will be able to go until then, depending on when it starts..
  16. I see what you did there...and I applaud. (To answer the question, though, I wouldn't be surprised to see more of these TWEEDY shows turn up in the Roadcase, but what people also have to understand is that some venues charge acts ridiculous fees for recording and selling shows so that's why some can't be sold. They allow them for archival purposes, but once it moves into trying to sell them, it becomes cost prohibitive for a lot of bands to do it. I believe this is the case at the Ryman, for instance. And the Hollywood Bowl, I remember had a similar provision.)
  17. Just noticed that the setlist posted on Wilco's Facebook page lists "Dark California Stars." I can assume you that it was just the usual California Stars, with no Dark Star involved. Not sure where that came from.
  18. So I guess there's 1,998 viable copies of this now?
  19. Yeah, thanks! I was glad to hear it at least once on this run... That was a pretty funny interlude as well. "My dad always said, 'Let's go, so we can get back,'" Jeff said. "No. We have to (make the most) of time because that's all we have." And then just as Jeff was launching into his explanation of the Slow Love singalong and it requiring a sort of cultish mentality, that couple right in the front got up and walked out, as if to reject membership into said cult. It couldn't have been more perfect timing if Jeff had scripted it himself. One other funny bit was after Pecan Pie when a
  20. Interceding on the TWEEDY talk for a second to post The Handsome Family's opening set, in case anyone is interested. It was really a treat to get to see them at the Ryman. Not sure if it was their first time playing there, but I just loved hearing them in that space. I can't really explain why, but it just suits them IMHO. Rennie told a great story about how they had come through Nashville in the late 1980s prior to the Ryman's renaissance when it was all boarded up. They also stopped at the George Jones Gift Shop, which wasn't exactly doing a brisk business. So Rennie apparently bought a co
  21. For those who care about such things, I happened to see a sign at the merch table in Nashville last night saying that there were 2,000 of these pressed. Which makes sense. So that's the "limited edition," fwiw.
  22. That was a pretty great story. And maybe truer than we know. Anyway, again, I honestly wasn't angling for praise. Just wanted to let Mr. T.S. Fingers know that his regular interest was appreciated by yours truly. As is everyone else's. But please don't let this thread be hijacked by my apparent neediness! There's more about last night's show that I'm sure I missed...
  23. Oh, I wasn't trying to suggest that I'm not appreciated! Haha. I fully realize that there are lurkers-a-plenty. Just that it's nice to know at least you're reading them. But thanks for the kind words...and I look forward to (dread) ever being said go-to fellow/audience witness talking head.
  24. Sometimes I think you're one of the few who routinely are interested. Or perhaps it's just the time differential... Ta, at any rate.
