  1. And in case anyone was interested, here was the Minus 5's opening set: Twilight Distillery The Old Plantation Adios Half Soldier In The Ground The Babe [The Baseball Project] Blue Rickenbacker> The Days of Wine and Booze Revolution Blues [Neil Young] Aw Shit Man
  2. Plenty of VCers in attendance tonight so I'm sure comments will be forthcoming soon. But for now, here was the complete setlist as played: Down From Above* Diamond Light* Desert Bell* Flowering* Honey Combed* Summer Noon* World Away* New Moon* High As Hello* Where My Love* Slow Love* Nobody Dies Anymore* I Am Trying To Break Your Heart^ New Madrid^ At Least That's What You Said^ I'm Always In Love^ You And I^ Born Alone^ Kamera^ Dawned On Me^ You Are Not Alone^ ---------------------------- Low Key* (w/Scott McCaughey on keyboard) California Stars* (w/Scott McCaughey on keyboard) Jesus, etc.^
  3. Yeah, almost certainly. You could read his lips, saying "Please don't do that."
  4. Called Fake Fur Coat, apparently, according to the Mountain Jam setlist posted on Wilco's Facebook. They now have posted the setlists for all three TWEEDY performances so far, fwiw.
  5. I wasn't at Mountain Jam, unfortunately, so I can't say with absolute certainty what was or wasn't played.
  6. FYI, I was subsequently told that the single was meant to be a tour-exclusive thing as opposed to being just available at the Detroit gig (though I don't think they were selling it in Pittsburgh last night). So ultimately, who knows how many they pressed? But I was told that it should be available at other tour stops...
  7. I'm by no means a guitar or gear expert, but Jeff only played electric on one song tonight, Diamond Light. He used a well-worn Jazzmaster on that one, which he plays mostly below the pickup to create texture if that makes sense. Jim had a pink Tele he used on some songs and a Les Paul-looking guitar (with four knobs) on others. He had at least one other guitar I think, but I couldn't really describe that one right now. Hope that helps a bit. I also noticed that Darin had at least two different electric Lakland basses and an acoustic bass of some sort (but no upright). He had a stack of Aguila
  8. The second performance of the TWEEDY band turned out to be a condensed version of the first, taking place on a gorgeous evening before an appreciative crowd that could hardly have asked for much more with the aforementioned weather and free admission (though Jeff again joked about playing a set of songs that almost nobody had heard in front of a big festival crowd, promising at the outset to play some songs people were more familiar with "but only if you're good.") Personally, the second time hearing some of the new songs (and not worrying so much about deciphering song titles) proved to be
  9. FYI, a source just told me that the 10" should be available at all of the tour stops. It was meant to be a tour exclusive, and not a Detroit exclusive. I'm glad that other folks will have a chance to pick it up, even if I was in the right place at the right time last night! P.S. More moon songs...never bad! ;-)
  10. . I'm a little bit surprised there haven't been more reactions like this, to be honest. Let's face it...these new songs that we've now heard all of once are going to take some time to sink in, to get into our consciousness. They're growers, like a lot of Jeff's songs are. For some people, they may never take root — and that's OK. Because from what I heard last night, a lot of these new songs seem to be pretty personal in one way or another. It's a type of songwriting that's not going to appeal to everyone. Anyway, I'm not out to get into a proverbial war of words or anything but I will just
  11. There were some TWEEDY T-shirts and individual show posters. TWEEDY portion of the show was close to two hours total, I think. (9 p.m. to about 10:55).
  12. Was gonna try and do this last night, and I don't know how helpful it will really be to anyone else (and I'm hesitant to take things out of context after just one listen) but I jotted down some lyric fragments for a few of the new songs to start getting a grip on the new material and figured I'd share as much as I could. (I could obviously have heard some of these wrong, so I'm not totally vouching for accuracy but I think they're pretty much right.) Down From Above - It's only love till it goes...the last beginning has begun/the last book is written/the last song is sung Flowering - Hold
  13. Rae is her middle name (i.e., srmt=Susan Rae Miller Tweedy). Sukie is a nickname, I guess you could say. And I think it's pronounced pretty much as it looks...SUE-key-ray.
  14. He also "upped the ante" by asking for crowd participation on Slow Love. I liked the effect of the crowd singing the "cultish mantra" of "Slow Love Is The Only Love" to start the song and "No Love Is The Only Love" to close it out. People embraced that singalong pretty well, I thought. Of course, Jeff's banter about how he always wanted to be a cult leader was hilarious.
  15. To answer some immediate questions, the main Tweedy portion of the set lasted almost exactly one hour (from 9-10 p.m.) and then Jeff played about 35-40 minutes by himself before the encores. They were NOT selling the new album but there was a special vinyl-only 10" of parts 1 and 2 of Diamond Light that Jeff said would only be available at this show (and has a locked groove)! I think they probably pressed 500 of them. To me, it seems likely that Diamond Light will not be on the actual album. It sounded more like a Loose Fur-esque track to me, with bass and drums really emphasized, and didn't
  16. Well, Night One of TWEEDY is in the books....will write more in a bit, but for now, here was the complete setlist as played (new song titles taken from printed setlist): Down From Above* Flowering* Summer Noon* World Away* New Moon* Where My Love* Slow Love* Nobody Dies Anymore* Honey Combed# Desert Bell* High As Hello* Wait For Love* Low Key* Spiders (Kidsmoke)^ Passenger Side^ You Are Not Alone^ The Ruling Class^ New Madrid^ Kicking Television^ I Am Trying To Break Your Heart^ Jesus, etc.^ Misunderstood^ ------------------------ Diamond Light* ------------------------ I'm The Man Who Loves
  17. Usually when the principal songwriter of a band puts out a record on his/her own apart from the band, that's called a solo record and when he/she is involved with a project in which he/she is *one of* the songwriters (i.e. Golden Smog, Loose Fur), then it's a side project. At least that's how I would distinguish the two. It's probably splitting hairs, at any rate. I would expect the record to probably come out under "Jeff Tweedy," but who knows...maybe it will be "TWEEDY." Does it really matter one way or the other?
  18. Cool about the second chance thing. As far as seating, this is the city of Chicago we're talking about. There will probably be like 200-300 seats roped off up front for presale buyers, but I virtually guarantee they won't assign seating if they haven't already done it by this point. So it's a good bet there will still be some jostling for position within that presale section.
  19. Glad you won the lottery, Alison! I didn't think about how they would set it up, but this makes sense to me. It's way easier for them to just rope off 200-300 seats near the front and then just let people "fight it out" in that space than try to actually ticket individual reserved seats for everyone. Knowing how the city of Chicago works, can you imagine them trying to organize all that? It's kind of like how they rope off a few rows for the free shows at Pritzker until just before the show. I mean, I'm sure it'll be a total clusterf*ck anyway, but hopefully they'll give you guys priority seat
  20. Fwiw, I heard that Ken Coomer will also be playing at the Big Star Third show in Memphis.
  21. This could be the debut of the Jeff solo band? Not sure if they'll be joining him for the June dates, but I guess we'll find out June 5th in Detroit...
  22. Something to that effect, I suppose. Though it falls far short of the superhero persona you make it out to be. Setlist Schlub is more like it...;-)
  23. Yeah, come on by Chicago people (or anyone else in town)! Sorry I've been too busy pricing records to chime in on this before now. See the esteemed LouieB in his native habitat...;-)
