  1. Lucius! Love those ladies. Too bad they didn't do Waterloo; don't know if the Dylan crowd could've handled that... What'd they do on Nothing'sever? Handclaps, I hope.
  2. Toronto also seems to get some of Jeff's biggest flubs, like last night on IATTBYH when he just totally blew a verse (or rather sang the same one twice). All he could do was chuckle about it. I remember at one of the Massey Hall shows right at the start of The Whole Love tour cycle, he had a brain fart during She's A Jar that was one of the worst I can remember. (Off the top of my head, I can think of at least a couple of other pretty major flubs, too, and weirdly they were also in Canada.) I say this not to be critical, but because it's endearing that Jeff and/or Wilco has never gotten to th
  3. I was there, and sorry I never replied to this. Part of it was travel fatigue, part of it was internet going down at my place for a few days and not wanting to bang something out on my phone and part of it was not necessarily having much to add to what had already been reported. Anyway, this show seems like ages ago now (even though it was just last week). And it was my first of this tour, so I didn't have a great frame of reference. But in retrospect, especially now that Richard Thompson's stint is over, this was a darn good show from a Wilco perspective. Give Back The Key... is one of my f

  5. Yeah, I was gonna mention that too. I wasn't super close, but I could tell that wasn't Charlie Sexton up there.
  6. Nice! I was hoping somebody got a shot when Dylan was blowing the harmonica between Jeff and Jim at the end there. Must have a been a thrill for those guys. Bob introduced them by saying something like, "Now we're gonna bring up some people who were here before." And then said "Jeff Tweedy" and "Jim James," which was kind of weird just to hear him say those names. (Then again, given how little Dylan has said during most shows recently, it's a little jarring to hear him say anything.) Truth be told, I don't know how much either Jeff or Jim added to Blowin' In The Wind but they were singing
  7. And now Jeff and Jim are back out for Dylan's encore of Blowin' In The Wind.
  8. Yeah Jeff and Jim just came out for Pete Seeger's Oh What A Beautiful City...

  10. Holy cow, AmericanaramA turned into CanadianaramA for a night... Ms. Leslie Feist came out and she, Richard Thompson and the band ran through Leonard Cohen's Suzanne! Plus a set-closing Cinnamon Girl with MMJ. And Sloth. Complete setlist to follow...

  12. Yeah, Jeff did play harmonica on this! That's all he played, actually, so he was able to hold it in his hands, which doesn't often happen. I thought the band really did a great job on this old rave-up even if it got a bit lost among all the other gems in the course of the show. And count me among the fans of the covers set! I mean, it was certainly one that appealed most to the real music nerds but just the energy inherent in the band pushing themselves beyond their comfort zone was a treat. What an opening trifecta, too, and I think Surrender must have one of the most fun choruses I can thin
  13. Here was the complete setlist, as played: The Boys Are Back In Town [Thin Lizzy] Cut Your Hair [Pavement] In The Street [big Star] New Madrid Dead Flowers [The Rolling Stones] Simple Twist Of Fate [bob Dylan] -John Hodgeman "randomizer," pt. 1: Ripple [The Grateful Dead] Who Loves The Sun [Velvet Underground] And Your Bird Can Sing [The Beatles] (played twice) Psychotic Reaction [Count Five] -"randomizer," pt. 2: Tom Courtenay [Yo La Tengo] (played by Yo La Tengo, joined by Wilco) -"randomizer," pt. 3: James Alley Blues [Richard "Rabbit" Brown] Waterloo Sunset [The Kinks] (w/Lucius' Jess Wol
  14. As a Chicagoan, I must interject in this thread to say: GO BLACKHAWKS! BEAT THE BRUINS! I'm not even the biggest hockey fan, relatively speaking, but I'm glad that no one will have to miss Wilco's show on Saturday now to watch a clincher... Oh, and hey Paulcalpyse...in additon to that Nels/Julian Lage 7", the Blisters will also apparently have an exclusive 7" on dBpm that will be sold at SSF. Those are those only "exclusive" releases I've heard about. Safe drive to you guys!
  15. See, now I always knew Jeff had his own personal sun somewhere...lol. Wonder what the album will sound like? Probably a bit fiery...;-) Oh, and nothing against you Bobby, but I would've believed you if you said you met Nels and talked to him. No "proof" needed. But that's kind of the age we live in, isn't it?
  16. Along with Yvonne, the other background singers in Mavis' band are Donny Gerrard and Vicki Randle (both well-established artists in their own right).
  17. RIP Maxwell's. It is/was a great place, and I'm glad I trekked out there as much as I did when I lived in the area (and now also regret all the shows I had tickets for and didn't make it to for any number of reasons).
  18. Depends on what you mean by a "long absence." They've sporadically done One Wing over the past year, but I think other than a very sporadic Bull Black Nova or You And I (perhaps once each in Europe last fall), I think it's been more than a year since any of the other W(TA) songs have been played live.
  19. For those who might be interested, I figured I'd post what Mavis and her band played before the rain cut their set short: Can You Get To That? [Funkadelic] I Like The Things About Me [Pops Staples] Creep Along Moses [traditional] The Weight [The Band] You Are Not Alone (w/Jeff Tweedy on acoustic guitar and backing vocals) It was a great lineup of bands on the main stage yesterday, and we got fun sets from The Flying Clouds of South Carolina (a gospel band), Lucius, Jonathan Richman and Tommy Larkins, Sharon Van Etten, Calexico and Mavis and her band before the rains came. Would have been a
  20. When it comes to music festivals, there's a lot to like about the Nelsonville Music Festival. It's very compact, laid back and has a great spirit about it. The only downside is the apparent tendency for intense thunderstorms to roll in at pretty much the worst times. It happened on the second night of the four-day festival when delays pushed the schedule back at least two hours, and resulted in the final band on the main stage, The Coup, not getting to start their set until past 1 a.m. Tonight, on the third and most music-packed day of the fest, inclement weather once again reared its ugly h
  21. As I recall, Neil was on fire that day because of a front-page story in the Chicago Tribune that basically accused Farm Aid (and its organizers) of not really helping farmers. Or something like that... Anyway, that rendition of Southern Man was a blistering one. There were horns, right? I can send you the mp3 if you still can't find it elsewhere.
  22. Keep in mind that Dylan is selling "hot ticket" packages or whatever they call them that allow early entry at a lot of these places. So even though it's all GA at some venues, folks who paid for those "hot tickets" will be getting in before the "regular" GA folks. At least that's my understanding. Best to set your expectations properly if you care about being right up front... It is interesting that the "regular" pricing does seem to vary at least a little bit from venue to venue, though.
  23. Or at the Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso, Ind., (my hometown) on May 11.
  24. Waterloo Sunset would be cool (and I think Glenn even knows who wrote it now!) I also cast my vote, because otherwise I'd probably forget. But just on the off, off chance that Shake Some Action gets played, I'm taking credit...
  25. Whoa, a rare Twisted Acres sighting! Thank you, sir (though I just got back tonight)...it was a blast.
