so this band just won the Aussie equivalent of the Mercury Prize. Hmmm....
-
There's some other great musical references that I only found out after watching the show - Like a GBV poster in Nick's basement room and DropKick Murphys music all over the place.

Oh man, Sawyer is just carryin' this show on his tanned, glistening shoulders

this seems just great.

I was traveling last week and so missed $100 at the APK (an old house without stage, perfect to see an act). But here are Ian and Simone on the local radio show 'For the Folk'. The host is Alison Brown, my concert and drinking friend, who is no musical slouch herself.. http://chrwradio.com/podcasts/94-9CHRWWed2030.mp3 I helped arrange the interview and liked the tales of the 'Rolling Sickness Review', handball, the 14th floor of Princess Margaret Hospital and George Jones. Simone especially sounds like she's led a very tough life of poverty, institutions and health problems. I gue

Dude, rent Little Children. It's the reason he and Wilson were cast in Watchmen.

just hope this thing making a trillion dollars will allow some really good director to make Miracleman, which I would put as the best he ever did. Saw the movie last Tuesday and I like the new ending. Of course it is not perfect and there was WAAAAYYY too much Richard Nixon, but if anything, it provides a fairly satisfying conclusion to a blockbuster. I don't know if you all remember, but the comic ending was criticized on original publication. It was felt to be a cop out to what had been an incredibly complex story. (for the waayyy too much Tricky Dicky, I have to blame Matt Groening)

Top 3 most underwhelming bands/artists you've ever seen
lizish replied to Mrs. Peel's topic in Someone Else's Song
Violent Femmes. They seemed to hate the audience. Terrible run throughs of great songs. The 3rd album had just come out. Mats - drunken covers and stopped songs. oh wait, maybe this should be in the 'best' thread. Shannon Wright. A nightmare. I think she lost about 99% of the audience after Julie Dorion's opening. -
Who are the 5 best live bands you've ever seen?

Oh yeah! I saw him open for Dire Straights and it was soooooo friggin loud. Knoffler and Vaughn then went down the road to see a teenage (pre Road House) Jeff Healey. We high tailed it over and saw all three get their guitar face on. It was pretty spectacular. -

Jealous of you seeing BB-deluxe. I didn't get into them until the band was no more. I certainly have not kept up to date with Nelson, but he came by the El Mocombo in 82 or 83. It was a spectacular show. He was just fooling around with some drum loops, but also had a full band so there was all this extra drumming on top of his incredible playing. I seemed like this group meditation session in that he put everyone in a trace. I got a boot of the show from someone on the dreamsville list. Of course it doesn't sound like my memory, but man, it is still fun to pull out. Poptodd - Yes XT -

Thanks. That's a really pretty guitar. Gonna pull out the credit card later this week. I figure I'll be supporting both the banks and the Chinese economy in one purchase.

ok - will go. Thanks for the feedback.

Looking at a Blueridge BR-70 as my 'second' and upgraded guitar. I'm not really a playa, but had a ton of fun lately picking out the chords to Broken Family Band and Frightened Rabitt songs. http://www.stevesmusic.com/index.php?main_...roducts_id=3410 The deal I'm looking at is $699 cad with a hardshell case. Worth it for a low -mid range guitar? I especially like the neck. It just seems soo easy to play.

Ok - thanks Kyle. Not sure at the moment if a late yoga class or an opening-act is gonna win my time.

He's opening for AC Newman Wednesday. Worth seeing?

Buys cassette tapes in the bargin bin Loves Carlene Carter and Loretta Lynn

Yeah - you're right. I've seen other vids of him from like only last year and he looked like a typical 20 year old indie-folk guy. Life on the road must be tough.

Trying to win a Thermals T-shirt from some Blog. The skill testing question was - what is your fav punk pop album? Tempted to answer with a Thermals disc, but really, it's this:

"Remember the scene in Sling Blade where Dwight Yoakam leads the drunken band through a set on the porch while Vic Chestnutt heckles? If Vic had recorded with that band, the results would've sounded like this."
