  1. I cancelled mine after 6 months- it's so stale. Haven't bought it since the revamp because I'm sick of how backwards-looking it is. What the UK needs is a magazine that explores the left-of-field and is more celebratory of modern stuff. I'm not saying there isn't room for a little history, but what about indepth articles on more recent innovators? Clash kind of comes close but the fashion section is pretty wank and the reviews offer no critical perspective whatsoever. Good for interviews and up and coming bands though. I find Word a bit too dry. Maybe it's because I'm still a whippe
  2. haven't heard that one, but beck could record the sound of himself and godrich in a farting contest and put it to a tropicalia beat and i'd love it.
  3. clicky via stereogum. I really like this one. Nothing complex about it, just really catchy and the video's cool in a lo-fi way.
  4. I still live at home though, space is at a premium! Making a mix CD for someone you don't really know is tough. I'd offered to burn her a copy of the guillemots so i might do that and then if we chat more I'll make her a mix.
  5. you should coem to the birmingham gig mate.
  6. How are they? keep meaning to check 'em out because the're playing the Little Civic in Wton soon. Currently I'm randomly dipping into my CD collection now it's been rehoused after the purchase of a third IKEA Benno tower. It looks kind of scary. I hate to think how many CDs I'll have by the time I'm 30. I'm also trying to figure out songs for a mix for this cute barmaid I was chatting to last week
  7. cool, i just got Vivadixie so I might check them out at the Glee Club. Thanks Jen!
  8. I've never heard much Gorilla Biscuits stuff, but I did like the Rival Schools album and they were cool live too. Sometimes throw Used for Glue in my DJ sets.
  9. i still have it, but it's on my old computer. if anyone really wants it i'm sure i can get the old beast fired up one more time.
  10. Definately one of my favourite bands. Make sure you pick up You Forgot It In People. It's more focused than the new one (although that doesn't mean much- compared to most music there's still a hell of a lot going on) and just has some absolutely sublime moments on it.
  11. Gold and Heartbreaker would stand as significant albums in my collection, the kind of records that you hear and they re-invigorate your love of music and remind you why you spend so much time with it. I don't care how many records he releases or what an asshole he is or who he's fucking. I picked up JCN and Cold Roses on the day of their release but i haven't bought 29 yet...I figured I'd save it. For anyone who doubts Ryan's hit-to-miss ratio, I suggest listening to his unreleased stuff andsee the calibre of the stuff he doesn't let out. Some amazing songs there. Here's my top whatev
  12. Picked up some real bargains today, some from the Holy Virgin (Megastore) Bargain Bin:
  13. my condolences Kat. Vibes are on the way xo
  14. Cool. I've not 'discovered' any new singer-songwriters in a while, so I'm glad this thread came to my rescue. NP: Thom Yorke - The Eraser I can't stop listening to this. It's not on the same level as Radiohead but there's something addictive about it. It's good background music in a weird way. Also been listening to the new Guillemots. I loved their singles and the From the Cliffs EP but Through the Windowpane isn't doing it for me as a complete piece yet. Maybe I just need to spend more time with it.
  15. Just checked out a couple of his songs on MySpace and was very impressed. I might have to pick this up when i have some money,
  16. weird, I was looking through my collection earlier and added that to the 'must rip to new PC' pile. It's a good one; need to get the new singer-songwriter comp they've put out. NP: YHF Next: Guillemots - Through the Windowpane
  17. this is pretty much my feeling on Illinois. Plus there's just so much of it. I agree with Erlewine (rare, actually) that it does seem like affectation. There are a few songs I like though and while I'm not interested in The Avalanche, I would like to hear Michigan.
