Best and worst venues you've seen Wilco play
alison the wilca replied to tugmoose's topic in Just A Fan
best: hmm...i really liked the john anson ford theater and i think the orange peel is just perfect. worst: i hated the eagle's ballroom -
my secondary boss had to miss a day of work because one bit her on the eyelid and her eye swelled shut. another lady i work with also had to miss a day of work because the bites were so bad. i think kris may have been bitten by these (he thought bed bugs but i didn't get bitten so thats not it).

Worst Fall Release Schedule Ever?
alison the wilca replied to howfast's topic in Someone Else's Song
i think there is supposedly a ryan adams box set coming out (bsides and live stuff??) if you are into that sort of thing. -
oh! happy birthday, paul!!!

i'm not catholic but that is ridiculous. At what year should a belief system have started to be valid? every belief system has its loonies, every belief system has truths, and every belief system is made of real people (meaning they will never ever be perfect and there will always be hypocrisy). it seems like some people here hate "religion" the same ways in which extremists hate certain rights we have in the US.

all christians are not like that.

my office in rosemont is closed today because the power is out there. I guess our generator only keeps the servers up and does not provide power to the rest of our building. I went and had me a waffle at Denny's instead of working
-
wow, thats nuts. they had to lock all the doors in/out of my building becuase they wouldn't stay shut. it was weird walking into an interior hallway with no windows and feeling a strong breeze.
-
holy crap... the trees were seriously blowing sideways and the rain was so heavy that it obscured from view everything looking out the window of my office. my building was evacuated to all interior offices and i even heard a semi got blown off the highway! That was nuts.

it took me a while to find venue info: http://imu.uiowa.edu/guest_services/event_...room_number=180

Attention Homeland Security

I don't know if you are calling me vindicitve or what but I certainly understand and sympathize with families in need and searching for a better life. I think there has to be a better, easier (probably cheaper), and LEGAL way for decent and hard-working people and families to come here. Do I sympathize with someone in open defiance of the country she wants to belong in? Not really. I feel badly that her child is caught in the middle of this, though. -
paypal always charges a fee for transactions of any type. The only way for you to get a full refund is for the other party to refund you more than you paid.

i'm sure there are tons of illegal immigrants that want to be legal (and probably tons who dont give a crap). i realize there is a limit to # of immigrants and obviously qualifiers but if they try and for one reason or another are NOT granted the opportunity to become a citizen, it doesn't make it okay to break the law and come here. should the laws be changed? probably. but as it stands, i can't respect it if someone decides to take it upon themselves to come here illegally. the uncontrolled and unregulated nature of illegal immigration is truly frightening. -

agreed. i think its so incredibly RUDE. legal immigrants work hard, study for citizenship tests and pay a lot of money for the opportunity to be a citizen and what does this say to them? you should have just snuck in and saved yourself the trouble? -
it is better than the shield and i, also, LOVE the shield.

"Ice Road Truckers" unappreciation thread
alison the wilca replied to bjorn_skurj's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
i kind of love this show for some reason- not sure why as it is totally just a bunch of guys driving trucks on a scary road. as it is the history channel, it would be a lot cooler if they included more history/stories/interviews, etc on the old ice road and its development over time. they only briefly went over it in maybe an episode or two. -
i haven't seen anything about the UI C/U show but that is SUCH an awesome venue. I would really prefer that show if it weren't in the middle of the week. i'm thinking of trying for better chicago seats today but I'm scared TM will cancel both my orders (even though theres an 8 ticket limit).
-
huh. that chicago presale was so stupid. the presale ticket menu wasn't available until maybe 10:10am and there were no tickets at that point and THEN it disappeared for 5 or 10 minutes. Then it came back and there were no tickets still. what the heck. i understand not getting tickets but i guess i expected to just be able to try. weird. edit: nevermind... i just pulled something up! i think i'm sitting waaaaaaay over to the side of the stage in the 2nd rowish? what a confusing seating chart.
-
oh thanks! that wasn't there the last time i looked (or i wasn't looking in the right spot).
-
Does anyone know anything about a presale for the Chicago show?
-

she must see Connemara. I did it on the Connemara Bus (http://www.galway1.ie/faq/connemara.htm) which was so great. we stopped in small towns, took scenic walks, etc... just a great way to see the area. I hope it is still running, I was there 5 years ago. The bus is vintage and the driver is a true joy. It leaves from Galway, which is a nice little town in its own right. The tourism office in Galway has all the info she would need.
