Pitchfork article about mining music tastes...
Welsh Rich replied to Welsh Rich's topic in Someone Else's Song
Who you starting with? I want to hear that Big Country sound... (ahhh.... remembers growing up with those records) -
Gifted footballer who never quite made it... though his rather large wages paid during his stint at Real Madrid will help the retirement - don't think the Kop ever forgave him for that.

So... Pandora... Started with Wilco "Blue Eyed Soul" and it's subsequently given me: Cake "Walk On By" Superchunk "1,000 pounds" (really liked this!) Foxymorons - who were so good, I've just ordered the album! -
Don't know if anyone else has read this: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/features/wee...ourselves.shtml but it makes quite interesting reading... Basically it's about companies/websites that are mining our music tastes to suggest new bands. I've just logged onto Pandora and put Wilco in and I'm going to see what it suggests... Well worth a read over a cuppa as it's quite long.

I'll be curious to know what you think about Walcott - he's supposed to be very quick and skillful. It's an interesting team they've put together for that Belarus game, some guys who, if impress, could make a difference in the World Cup should they be selected. Wales v Finland was the first Wales football international I went to at the Millennium stadium... you beat us 2-1

I'm really unsure as to who could win it this time around - England would certainly be in with a shout if there weren't so many "IF's", especially with major players returning from injury - Rooney, Owen, Cole - at the moment you have only one recognised striker in Crouch who's actually scored in the Premiership! Walcott is a nice gamble and one I hope will pay off. As per usual, with Wales not having made it (again!!!) I'm kinda of unsure who to root for. Normally I pick a team other than England, but I don't mind them doing well. This time around Tinidad & Tobago are getting my vote I

You should start one! And Eddie in a dress does look surprisingly like a woman... an ugly woman, but a woman nevertheless

Indeed, welcome back Rosie....... Just post Eddie in your RSBF's thread Let's get this back on track.... after seeing the Fiery Furnaces again over the weekend, Eleanor is a rather good looking young lady

I am the reviewer hence the emphasising! I didn't want to use the dreaded alt-country thing, but live they sounded different to their records to me, there was a traditional element to their music whether they wanted it or not. I used alt-country as perhaps it should be used "alternative country"; it wasn't proper country and it wasn't just alternative, it was a meeting of the two different styles...

Went to see Tilly & The Wall last night and was a little bit disappointed - though they sounded more country / folk that I was expecting. Was more impressed with the support act Emmy The Great who was very good - kooky folk with polka dot skirt and a cardigan. Full review and some snazzy pictures of the lovely Tilly girls http://www.cdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=2795

Cambridge (UK) Folk Festival Lineup announced
Welsh Rich replied to Albert Tatlock's topic in Someone Else's Song
Yeah - I should have thought of that - but I wasn't planning on queuing until I found out I couldn't get through on the phone. Your mix is next in line on my listening pile, so it'll get a spin tonight before I go out! -
Well there's a stunning mix with just those!! Speedway is one of my favourite Morrissey songs...

She kept those under wraps last week that's for sure!

So I queued round the block to get my ticket today! 1.5 hours... don't think I've queued that long for any ticket! Sorted though - let me know if you have any luck with yours Andrew. -
Yup - I try to do that... if it doesn't work, let me know!

Yeah - that was a good song - like some weird gospel type thing full of organ and slide guitar... great stuff. And Jonathan Rice dedicated a song to the "special" Watson Twin.... he didn't name her, so perhaps not Jenny then...
