Gobias Industries
Jay is/was a much better rock keyboard player than anyone in Wilco now. His keyboard lines are hookier and more creative than what Wilco is doing now and while I'm not fond of their overuse on Summerteeth I now miss him, something I never thought I'd say. Not to bash anyone in particular but the keyboard stuff Wilco is doing now makes me snooze. So yeah, I was going to write more but whatever. You go to war with the Wilco you have, not the Wilco you wish you had. Just it'd be nice if they put in some actual rockers or give up the argument that the audience should be standing at a rock show because really they won't be. At a rock show. If you have to drag out 10+ year old songs to get the audience excited then maybe you should think about what you're doing now and why it's not connecting the same way. l.bach>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>j.benitomussolini see: 02-03 shows. mountain bed
Yeah in almost all of the 1999/2000 shows whichever instrument Jay is playing sounds about two times louder then everyone else's.--MikeI know what you're sayin' there. But when on occasion there's this huge, fat melodic solo that comes lurching out of the speakers & just drills ya it can feel so good. Scott I totally agree with you there Scott. At times it can be overkill, but when Jay was on, like in I'm the Man Who Loves You from the 7-4-2001 show it's incredible. --Mike
G_willy
"And, an extra bonus, this show features this maniacal woman requesting Casino Queen in between songs, pretty much between every song . . . she's crazed, and man, I fucking hate that song." ...Obviously this guy hasn't been to that many shows. I tend to find that same girl at every wilco show I am at.
Mr. Heartbreak
that's a great Dead analogy! Donna could really make or break a show in her day. Thanks!
jennings
Let's see . . . there's so much to choose from, but I have to go with Pervert McMurderman . . . you dumb ass mother f'er. The band (WILCO) kicked Jay out of the band after the concert . . . yeah, I'm sure everything was fine and dandy during the performance, and then and only then, they decided he needed to leave the band. "Filling" up the blog . . . yeah, just like that DVD of I Am Trying to Break Your Heart was "filled-up" with fake scenes to capture the tension in the band. Now, outside of my disdain for Pervert McMurderman . . . I will politely disagree with the Jay supporters. I think he was a real impediemnt to the band's evolution/survival. rareair
"You see, the fucking melodrama just ruined this for me . . . hopefully it won't for you though. I think most folks are much more reasonable about these things." prophetic.
jennings
prophetic. Nice . . . that's a good (and misleading) post (and, the fact that you cited from rbally within minutes of my original post is a bit creepy). Anyway, the simple point is that I heard the tension, the band clearly was miserable (as documented in a film) and it seems kind of goofy for anyone to accuse me of making that up . . . . I've been looking for a new signature jethro. If you don't mind I'd like to use your war quote. At the E.Lansing show, folks were sitting down after the first 5-6 songs and the excitement didn't pick up until Jeff did some crowd interaction. His "sermon" really got the crowd riled up and boogien on a couple of new tunes til the very end of the show.
