suites
YOU NEED TO GET THEM ALL I would not be able to sleep at night if I knew that there was some Zep recordings somewhere that I have never listened to. Each one of the records is important in it's own right. I compare the run that they made to the Beatles run of records. They all are awesome. I know that for most of us actually putting on IV is not something that we do because we have heard all those songs like 10,000 times. Just imagine that you never heard Black Dog or Rock and Roll. I hear them through my 14 year olds ears and I can appreciate it again. All teens have to go through their Zeppelin phase.
Campaigner
I like the live versions of the Houses of The Holy songs - that album has such a weird sound that I have always found it hard to get into. Houses of The Holy was the last record album I bought when record stores actually carried record albums - pre-cd days. Good point (although I will say that the studio version of 'The Rain Song' is unbeatable). The live version of 'The Ocean' from 1973 that's on the DVD is unbelievable, proof to anyone who says that a drummer isn't that vital is talkin' outta their ass - Bonham owns that song. LouieB
As far as vinyl copies go (no one seems interested in discussing this but me), I noticed at least three of these LZ disks at Laurie's yesterday. LouieB

Analogman
Seconded. The only Zeppelin I have on vinyl is In Through The Out Door, with the brown bag. Which version? The original gramophone record of this album featured an unusual gimmick: the album had an outer sleeve which was made to look like a plain brown paper bag, and the inner sleeve featured black and white line artwork which, if washed with a wet brush, would become permanently fully coloured. There were also six different sleeves featuring a different pair of photos (one on each side), and the external brown paper sleeve meant that it was impossible for record buyers to tell which sleeve they were getting. (There is actually a code on the spine of the album jacket, which indicated which sleeve it was
c53x12
Love the Zep. Always have. Maybe always will. My best Zep memory is a roadtrip with buddies to Cape Cod around 1985...hanging out in some dude's house one night, Zep on the stereo, getting stoned... Another was the first time I heard The Ocean...it was really late one night and I was driving solo down some deserted back roads in Connecticut...Ocean comes on the radio, and I cranked it when I heard the opening riff...and found myself doing like 65 mph down some twisty highway by the time the song was done. Good times.
Sir Stewart
Whoa. Never knew about that. I doubt highy that I have a magic colors version, since I got it for $4 used.

jimtweedy1977
I've never been able to give up the Zep, no matter how hard I might try. I started with them way back in eighth grade, starting with Led Zeppelin II. By far, my favorite song from each album:I-Babe, I'm Gonna Leave YouII-The Lemon SongIII-That's The WayIV-When The Levee BreaksHouses of The Holy-Over The Hills & Far AwayPhysical Grafitti-Black Country Woman (nah, leave it, yeah)Presence-Tea For One (if this doesn't prove Jimmy Page was a guitar god, I don't know what else will)In Through The Out Door-Fool In The RainCoda-Poor Tom

fortuneinmyhead
page certainly isn't given enough credit for his production prowess...
froggie
I have all of them on vinyl, none on cd (excepting HTWWW) me too.. they're actually pretty cheap here in 2nd shops. i think physical graffiti sounds much better on vinyl, even after the remaster. the sound is incredibly fat, which helps with those tunes

Campaigner
page certainly isn't given enough credit for his production prowess... I'm surprised he hasn't done more outside work since Zep disbanded. Maybe it was because with Zep he was in complete control (ITTOD maybe being an exception), could do his overdubs and get the songs sounding just right without having to tell anyone what to do. Sir Stewart
The Rain Song is my #1 Zeppelin song. That's The Way is #2. Since I've Been Loving You is #1. So is Black Dog. In The Light is #2.And so on.
truetolife
Yes, the LZ catalog is a great one to delve into, my favorite after all these years would be III, but I would begin with I and then go in order to atleast ZOSO. Another album that noone has mentioned is the BBC Sessions, this is a collection of live performances recorded at the BBC, its two discs and a couple of songs are represented twice, but the songs have a different feel on each disc. The first disc is more blues-oriented. IIIIIIZosoBBC Sessions
Analogman
I have that and one of those BBC transcription disc - which is how you use to be able to hear that stuff before the cd came out.
NightOfJoy
I would not be able to sleep at night if I knew that there was some Zep recordings somewhere that I have never listened to. I'm not aiming to destroy your sleeping pattern but........................have you ever heard the soundtrack for Death Wish 2? Its a Jimmy Page effort that I picked up on vinyl back in the late 80s. Its not Zepplin but for the Zepplin-crazed it's a must hear. The Zep album I'd recommend a novice start with is III....mainly cause its my favorite. The first time I dosed was in 1985, by myself, at 11:30 at nite. The midnite album on the radio was Physical Graphitti. By the time the album was over, I was out of my mind but had that album burned into it as well. The odd part of the experience was that I was unable to listen to PG for years afterwards due to the feelings of anxiety and strangeness it would produce.
