Perhaps Mr. Heartbreak would be interested in throwing a SPOILERS subhead on this thread? I'd love to talk specifically.

I have no idea how to do that. All I see for Moderation Options is "Close this topic" and "Delete this topic."

If somebody wants to post instructions for me on how to change or edit the header, I'll be happy to do it.

My favorite part was when Shonuff dunked Sir Stew's head underwater in their big throwdown in the abandoned warehouse and then he comes up and blocks the punch headed towards his face w/ a glowing palm beacuse he's found 'the glow'. that was awesome.

You neglected to work a ref in there to either Tweedy or Heather "Mills" McCartney.

Edit the first post of the thread.

once you select edit on the first post, you can edit the topic headers.

(just making it a little clearer)

also, yesterday evening at work, my editor played the martin sheen to my mark wahlberg when one of the bosses came in to discuss whether "overtime is in the budget" :pirate

I thought that the movie was very entertaining. However, i wasnt a huge fan of the ending. While it was fine, i guess, i would have like something a little different. And, no, i'm not a fan of the happy, cookie cutter endings either :P Sorry for being very general, but i dont want to ruin it for those who havent seen it.

Wahlberg was awesome...cranberry juice was hilarious too.

I thought the same thing about the ending. I was disappointed with it. Enjoyed the movie otherwise, though it was extremely violent.

Saw this again last night. The third-to-last killing (you know, the big one) is, if not as shocking, at least as disturbing the second time around.

So many references to male's reproduction capabilities throughout. Costello's girl is reading a book on getting pregnant. Sullivan says to Costello "all that fuckin and no kids?" And of course the question of Sullivan vs Costigan's virility, never to be answered.

I heard from a friend (who's in the business) that the word arouund the campfire is Scorsese phoned the direction in, and that's the explanation for the lack of trademark Scoresesean shots/angles. I don't know what to think of that. Scorsese was all over the set in the scene I was involved in, and my brother watched him film for a full day in front of the police building. I did bike by the production one morning (turned out to be the "you're a cop if you ignore us" scene") and everyone but Scorsese seemed to be there. I don't know. The only red flag for me is the overusage of "Gimme Shelter."

Rockin. Leo's head getting blown off at the end is the most fucked thing ever!

I was more shocked that the fat comedian cop got popped in the head, to be honest. With leo i sort of felt it coming along.

Did the old ads show Queenan falling from the rooftop?

I'd imagine that if you saw the ad, then saw Queenan in the movie, you'd miss out on a hugely surprising part.

Fucking advertisers. Glad I don't watch much TV (and thus commercials).

With leo i sort of felt it coming along.

And yeah. It's usually pretty easy to figure out if someone can't die in a movie. I felt from very early that Leo would not make it, due to his short fuse, violent surroundings, no really redeeming qualities, no family, kid, whatver. Matt Damon had a kid, but by the end, everyone wants him dead, including his baby mommy.

I'm not so sure the kid was his

i hadn't even considered that. of course!

and yes, i was making this face :huh during the "gimme shelter" portion of the show, too.

Can't you just enjoy a movie without overanalyzing everything? ;)

*MAJOR SPOILER/QUESTION ABOUT ENDING*

Just got home from seeing this and my wife and I had two separate conclusions about the ending. I thought Marky Mark was the good guy coming to save the day -- movie ends on happy note. My wife thought that maybe he was the rat all along and was the one person in the movie that could have "been Costello" (as Leo and Jack discuss in the bar).

The movie was intentionally vague at the end I suppose. Anyone have any thoughts whether Marky Mark was a good guy or a bad guy?

Being as he shot Matt Damon right between the eyes in the final scene, I rate that "good guy" regardless if he was working for Costello or not.

EDIT I made the leap, or assumption if you will, that the wife sent Marky Mark the envelope Decaprio gave her spilling the beans on Damon's association with Nicholson thereby sending MM into a justice filled *fucking* rage that compelled him to plug Damon between the eyes.

Yeah, it was all pretty vague which is kinda cool but this movie really didn't live up to the expectations.

just saw the movie last night and really enjoyed the first two hours. the ending though was ridiculous. people in the theater were laughing during all of the killings. also as someone else mentioned i assumed that the kid was dicaprio's since that it was implied earlier that damon couldn't get it up.

Audiences laugh as the murders pile up at the end because it's funny. After the horrific shock of Costigan's death, the body count that ensues is classic Scorsese: following up awful violence with comedy.

One of the few problems I have with the movie is the lack of emotional connection between Queenan (Sheen) and Costigan (DiCaprio). The original showed much love between those characters, and Queenan's death should've been more touching/harrowing.
