bobbob1313
Sam Smith makes a case for this being the best ever. After Jordan scored a playoff record 63 points against the Boston Celtics in 1986, Celtics star Larry Bird described him (Jordan) as "God disguised as Michael Jordan." Guest Jules
After Jordan scored a playoff record 63 points against the Boston Celtics in 1986, Celtics star Larry Bird described him (Jordan) as "God disguised as Michael Jordan."Oh, I remember it well. But they lost the game and got swept. The more I think about it, I'm not sure I've seen anything like last night, in any sport.
bobbob1313
Wade had a couple of amazing games last year, specifically game 3 against the Mavs. Just saying he looked like crap the first two games, and he's had 2 really good games and one amazing game. That was an amazing game, but I still think we need to wait before we crown him the new Jordan (even though that happened about 5 years ago). I'll say he was in a zone last night, and the Pistons should've just started fouling him instead of giving him 2 points ever time down the floor.

cryptique
People in Ohio finally have something to cheer about....though if there was some way they could lose in the Finals to a team from Florida, I'm sure they would. (Note to the Marlins: you're going to have to get crackin' if you're going to beat the Indians in the World Series this year.) Since moving to this side of Michigan, I've come to grudgingly respect these Pistons ... they're a hell of a team, and when they're going right I don't really think there's anyone who can beat them. Nevertheless, I remain a lifelong Bulls fan, and I can't help but smile a bit at the Pistons' demise. The attitude around here has been amazing leading up to this -- from the team, the media, the fans, everyone. The sheer arrogance of it -- it's as if no one seriously entertained the possibility that any team from the East could stop the Pistons on their way to the Finals*. Karma's a bitch. * - yes, I know that Bulls fans were at least this arrogant back in the Jordan years. I was uncomfortable with that, too.
MrRain422
I admit to that arrogance last year, personally. This year I was much more realistic, although definately feeling pretty damn confident after the first two games of this last series vs. Cleveland. I apologize on behalf of any Pistons fans around there who didn't get the message last year (and really, last year seemed like much more of a foregone conclusion than this year -- any Pistons fan who still took that attitude this year is probably due for some ridicule). I do agree that the Pistons are pretty unstoppable when they're on their game, although I think age is starting to catch up to them a bit, especially as some of the younger teams in the East are starting to develop a bit. Also, Ben Wallace was, of course an important loss for the Pistons. They simply did not have anyone this year who could defend in the paint consistently without committing fouls, and it came to bite them in the ass a few times in the playoffs where Webber, McDyess and 'Sheed all went into the end of close games with 4 or 5 fouls. It's going to be an interesting off season. Last night the TNT guys were talking about this loss being a sign of the end of an era for dominance for the Pistons. I think it is a stretch to call at an era of "dominance" anyway. They were certainly the best team in the Eastern Conference over the past 5 years, but it's not as though they were trouncing every season, as they did lose 3 of the 5 conference finals they were in over that stretch. I guess it will come down to whether or not they can re-sign Chauncey Billups, and if not, if they can manage to find a suitable replacement who can keep them competitive now, or if instead they decide to go in a different direction and start to build a different team. I'd personally like to see Flip Saunders get the boot too, but I don't think that will happen this year.
mountain bed
I remember having this discussion last year: how does this Piston team stack up against the Thomas/Dumars group of the early '90's? I think this team has had a remarkable run. I've come to appreciate them. Some more from the who-gives-a-shit dept.: the Pacers have a new coach (finally!). We'll see how it goes....I'm glad Van Gundy didn't take the job. Never cared for him.
MrRain422
I've really come to love watching the Pistons over the last few years. I like their defensive style (or at least the defense they were playing a few years ago), and the way that so many guys on the team could take over if someone else was having an off day. It was true team basketball, and often so fundamentally perfect that it was just beautiful to watch at times. Keeping in mind that I was 7 and 8 when the Thomas/Dumars Pistons won their championships, so I don't know those teams quite as well, I think that the 2004 Pistons were better than those teams. The 2005 Pistons might have been too, but I'm not as certain.
Moltisanti
I don't understand this thinking some people have that the Cavs could have easily swept the series. Scoreboard, and all of that stuff. I was hoping for a Pistons-Spurs final. There are a couple of supremely arrogant San Antonio fans on the other board I go to, and I really thought Detroit could have taken them out. Cleveland, I think, has little to no chance of doing so(and yes, I am a witness). Rasheed's wife must be like the strongest-minded woman ever.
paul137
People in Ohio finally have something to cheer about.came down for the indians tigers game last night and the crowd was just mean outside the stadium. no witty heckeling just vicious slurs and derogatory. our hotel was directly across the street from quicken loans arena and it was pretty crazy. you would have thought they won the whole chmpionship. congratulations to the cavs hopefully the huge crowds of people i ran into are the exception and not the normal cavs fans. Duck-Billed Catechist
Apparently Billy Donovan is having second thoughts. I don't remember any of these college head coach->NBA head coaches working out that well. Of course they make a lot of money. It seems like Coach K probably has made more money by staying at Duke and building his brand.
bobbob1313
Yeah, he wants out. At least he didn't pull a Saban and leave after 2 seasons. Billy Donovan is having second thoughts. According to two sources close to the situation, the former Florida coach, who accepted the Orlando Magic job on Friday, is attempting to return to Gainesville. Donovan agreed to a five-year, $27.5 million contract with the Magic late last week, but has approached both sides about getting out of the deal. According to one source, Donovan was forced to make a rash decision by the Magic management

Duck-Billed Catechist
So it seems like Kobe is really pushing for a trade to the Bulls. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I guess it will depend largely on how much they have to gut the team.
PigSooie
This is kind of odd. The Grizzlies got the Celtics general manager to replace Jerry West, and the city of Boston got Memphis City Schools' superintendent.
