Twisted Acres
Nothing fancy, no gourmet ingredients, but it's ground turkey, and it's on whole wheat buns. Enjoy this evening's supper, VCers... unless you ate it already. ps: i haven't started a thread here in months... be gentle with me.

myboyblue
There is still something special about homemade sloppy joes. Sure, they aren't complicated. But I'll be damned if they aren't tasty and filling. Tater tots round out the meal nicely. We had chicken tacos with homemade guacomole.

Lammycat
I had falafals with tomato, lettuce, and bleu cheese dressing. I'm surprised I was able to down two after subsiding on them almost exclusively every few months in the 80s.
Twisted Acres
the sloppy joes were terrific, with enough left over for lunch tomorrow. Steamed some asparagus too. Cod sounds mighty tempting Kris, and homemade guacamole will always hold a special place for this avocado freak.

tongue-tied lightning
(New York - WABC, March 5, 2007) - After almost 80 years in business, one of the city's more popular pizzeria's remains closed today. John's on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village was cited for health code violations over the weekend. Eyewitness News reporter Jeff Rossen is live in Greenwich Village with the story. The health department closed the pizzeria down Thursday night. Now, the owner says the New York City Department of Health is just trying to target restaurants for minor violations, ever since the rat fiasco at KFC/Taco Bell. The mixer is still, the oven is off at John's Pizzeria in Greenwich Village, shut down by the New York City health department. The first violation is for not having a sink near the pizza oven. Today, workers moved to put one in. "We been open for 77 years," restaurant owner Robert Vittoria said. "If they would of came to us even 20 years ago and said 'sir you needed a sink,' don't you think I would of put in a sink? They never said a word that we needed a sink." The next violation was no lids on garbage cans in the restrooms. And in the basement, the other violation was for holes in the ceiling. "There was a hole about, maybe approximately six inches," he said. "But we covered the whole thing and we put the foam all around the pipes and we covered everything." He says health inspectors dropped the ball at the KFC/Taco Bell last month, you know the one with the "rats gone wild". Click here to view New York City inspection information for any restaurant! It was an embarrassment for the city's health department. Vittoria says they are trying to make an example of other restaurants. "I think this is just like a 'witch hunt,' he said. "Something went wrong with a couple of inspectors and they want to really get on everybody down here." According to inspection reports in 2005 and 2006, there was evidence of mice in the pizza shop. Not this time, and customers want John's to be open again. "I've never had any problems here whatsoever, not even in the bathrooms. And so if he thinks this personal, he maybe right," said one customer. Another restaurant just three doors down was also shut down for health code violations this past week. The obvious to the health department we had was, is this a trend. Are inspectors shutting down more restaurants just to be safe? Officials say neither inspections or closures have spiked in recent weeks. They say there were more closures in January of 2007, before the rat fiasco, than there were in February.
