to get a better picture, one might do well to read the poem with the title "Impossible Germany" in Tweedy's Adult Head. i think that is the title. i know a lot of the lines from A Ghost Is Born are in those poems... -justin

YouAReMYface
With no larger problemsThey need to be erasedNothing more importantThan to knowNow I know you'll be listening i think its about WWII as someone already said and i kinda get a feeling of hopelessness almost from jeff, impossible-unlikely its like he has no control and those countries are gonna do whatever they want to do and all he can do is give his feelings and opinions even though "You're not listening, oh I knowYou're not listening"......but maybe thats way too literal and germany and japan are just metaphors for a larger theme im missing, anythings possible.....except germany of course
bobbob1313
I feel like it's just something Jeff thought sounded nice. The WWII thing makes sense on a literal level, but I'd be pretty dissapointed if thats what it actually is. That's kind of dumb...

The WWII thing makes sense on a literal level, but I'd be pretty dissapointed if thats what it actually is. That's kind of dumb...i was being my sarcastic self when i mention the ww II thing. i just found it a bit odd that all that was needed was a mention of italy to re-create the original power trio from teh early 1940's. YouAReMYface
yeah the WWII thing is too literal...after reading in through again i think its just a big metaphor for a relationship and how you have to communicate with each other...thats the fundamental problem
rwrkb
maybe jeff just wanted to be dr. seuss for a day

I think the Impossible Germany, Unlikely Japan bit is just saying that it is impossible for them to communicate.
