Wilco Worshipper
...I'm just in shock!!! A complete album of covers including Justin Timberlake's 'Sexy Back'!!! Talk about loss of integrity... Good Lord!!!
bobbob1313
Huh?
Wilco Worshipper
Poison just made an album of all covers...not a single original tune on it. I know they're not all that guh-reat to start off with, but isn't this just a sad state of affairs?!?
bobbob1313
Not really. They are like in their 40's and most people aren't interested in their original stuff anymore. Why not record an album of recognizable songs that people won't leave when they play them during their concerts.
Wilco Worshipper
Point well made... I still think it's sad. What I heard doesn't sound so great either.
bobbob1313
I'm sure it's probably complete shit, but not because it's covers. It's probably shit because it's a heavy metal band that is 20 years past their prime. They were decent for what they did on their first few albums, but they've long since passed being relevant. bobbob1313
Strangely, I've been getting into 80's metal alot lately. Can't explain it.
Wilco Worshipper
It can be cool...
Analogman
Everybody and their brother is doing cover albums now - blame Rod Stewart for starting the whole fad (maybe). Rubbish, I say. Don't forget to buy the Patti Smith and Tesla cover cds!
Spawn's dad
is the tesla comment sarcasmic or is it really any good?
Analogman
Who knows - I would not listen to such a thing. I can see (and sometimes enjoy) a band doing a cover song or two during a show - but, bands suddenly jumping on the bandwagon of putting out whole albums of someone else's songs? Crazy. mountain bed
is the tesla comment sarcasmic or is it really any good?I heard some of this on the radio last night at a friend's house (Alice Cooper radio show). I probably shouldn't say this but it wasn't too bad, actually.
Atticus
I'd like to go on the record as being in favor of poison not playing their own songs

Analogman
It went from the House of Whores to the House of Horrors. - still one of the greatest BTM quotes.
anodyne
poison was never renowned for their integrity. they're a fun band, not a serious band. they likely did this because 1) easy money, 2) it was likely fun, 3) people are dumb and will buy it. if you like camp covers, check out richard cheese. squarewave
Johnny Cash did four of them with Rick Rubin... but they were great.

EL the Famous
Strangely, I've been getting into 80's metal alot lately. Can't explain it. ...because it's fun, perhaps? one can only take so much self-important altindiefolkemogarage type stuff. i listened to tons of that stuff in High School and College and turned out relatively fine. Analogman
To me, Poison are not metal - more like glam/pop rock. The dude should buy some Iron Maiden cds.
