Big Perm
I was getting coffee this morning, and was struck by the Modern English song "Melt With You". This may a bit obvious to some, but not a song I had heard in a while, I think there's a cover of it on a commercial somewhere, but maybe it's being away from my wife & home, but it got me. I couldn't stop listening to the words. Now, that being said, I'm not saying every moment of this song is penned brilliance, but mainly the stop the world and melt with you, I guess that's what I mean, that idea. Moving forward using all my breathMaking love to you was never second bestI saw the world thrashing all around your faceNever really knowing it was always mesh and laceI'll stop the world and melt with youYou've seen the difference andIt's getting better all the timeThere's nothing you and I won't doI'll stop the world and melt with you(You should know better)Dream of better lives the kind which never hate(You should see why)Dropped in the state of imaginary grace(You should know better)I made a pilgrimage to save this human race(You should see why)Never comprehending a race that long gone by(I'll stop the world)I'll stop the world and melt with you(I'll stop the world)You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time(Let's stop the world)There's nothing you and I won't do(Let's stop the world)I'll stop the world and melt with youThe future's open wide(Let's stop the world)I'll stop the world and melt with you(Let's stop the world)I've seen some changes but it's getting better all the time(Let's stop the world)There's nothing you and I won't do(Let's stop the world)I'll stop the world and melt with youThe future's open widehmmm hmmm hmmmhmmm hmmm hmmm hmmmhmmm hmmm hmmmhmmm hmmm hmmm hmmmI'll stop the world and melt with you(Let's stop the world)You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time(Let's stop the world)There's nothing you and I won't do(Let's stop the world)I'll stop the world and melt with you(Let's stop the world)I'll stop the world and melt with you... Whitty
"Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House has always been a slightly guilty pleasure of mine. Any song that uses the word "deluge" gets bonus points.

anodyne
Sun's coming up and I can't decide To spill my emotions or keep them inside Go for a drive, go to the store I'm looking for something that can't be bought there I always wear a smile Because anything but a smile would make me have to explain And they wouldn't understand anyway I conceal my feelings so I won't have to explain What I can't explain anyway I can't decide I can't decide I can't decide anything I can't decide I can't decide I can't decide anything Every time I open my mouth I always wish I had kept it shut I gotta spill my guts - but I don't dare I take a look around, I know that no one else cares Sun's coming up and I can't decide To spill my emotions or keep them inside Go for a drive, go to the store I'm looking for something that can't be bought there I always wear a smile Because anything but a smile would make me have to explain And they wouldn't understand anyway I conceal my feelings so I won't have to explain What I can't explain anyway I can't decide I can't decide I can't decide anything. pnêyu
As an unabashed '80s kid, I'd nominate "Tears" by the Chameleons UK as having some of my favorite lyrics from the decade: Tears (The Chameleons) It's just coincidenceWell, you can talk that wayBut I have to say I don't believe in itIt was a chill of chance,I decided to dance the days away And I wasn't worried at allSneaking through the back doorNo, I wasn't worried at allDreams are what you live for Waiting for the light to turn greenCarry me homeTo the kindest eyes that I've ever seenCarry me homeWell, can you tell me how will it be now?How will it be?Can you tell me, how will it be now?How will it be? Well we were younger then,And the days were long and slowBut were we wiser then?I couldn't say, I wouldn't know But I wasn't worried at allI had someone to run toAnd I wasn't worried at allI knew which way the wind blew Counting out the chaos and gloomCarry me homeAnd I watched the ceiling spin round the roomCarry me homeWell, can you tell me, how will it be now?How will it be?Can you tell me, how will it be now?How will it be? In the real world, how will it be?In a cold world, how will it be?In a lonely world, how will it be?Will the ghosts just stop following me? No, now drawn into the sunHe was the only one In the real world, how will it be?In a cold, cold world, how will it be?Beck and call, beg and crawl, how will it be?Will the ghosts just stop following me? No, now drawn into the sunHe was the only one And so I'll remember you,I'll remember the days and the thousands of ways you pulled me through,And dream of all the things you've seen,Of all the faces and all of the places you have been,Now you have no phone and you have no name and you have no number,And it comes to an end in the blink of an eye and it makes me wonder... brianjeremy
I've always been fond of this one: Caroline laughs andIt's raining all dayShe loves to be one of the girlsShe lives in the placeIn the side of our livesWhere nothing isEver put straightShe turns herself roundAnd she smiles and she says'This is it' 'That's the end of the joke'And loses herselfIn her dreaming and sleepAnd her lovers walkThrough in their coats Pretty in pinkIsn't she?Pretty in pinkIsn't she? All of her loversAll talk of her notesAnd the flowersThat they never sentAnd wasn't she easyAnd isn't shePretty in pinkThe one who insistsHe was first in the lineIs the last toRemember her nameHe's walking aroundIn this dressThat she woreShe is goneBut the joke's the same Pretty in pinkIsn't she?Pretty in pinkIsn't she? Caroline talks to youSoftly sometimesShe says'I love you' and'Too much'She doesn't have anythingYou want to stealWellNothing you can touchShe wavesShe buttons your shirtThe trafficIs waiting outsideShe hands you this coatShe gives you her clothesThese cars collide Pretty in pinkIsn't she?Pretty in pinkIsn't she? Lammycat
I like that English beat tune, "Save it for Later." The lyrics are cool and the tune has some oomph to it. Then there's this: We don't follow fashionThat would be a jokeYou know we're going to set them set themSo everyone can take note take note When they saw you kneelingCrying words that you meanOpening their eyeballs eyeballsPretending that you're Al Green Al Green Goody two goody two goody goody two shoesGoody two goody two goody goody two shoesDon't drink don't smoke - what do you doDon't drink don't smoke - what do you doSubtle innuendos followThere must be something he's hiding etc., etc.

pnêyu
Probably not the topic you want to hear right now, but Prefab Sprout's "When Love Breaks Down" is another fondly remembered tune: My love and I, we work well togetherBut often we're apartAbsence makes the heart lose weight, yeah,Till love breaks down, love breaks down Oh my, oh my, have you seen the weatherThe sweet September rainRain on me like no otherUntil I drown, until I drown When love breaks downThe things you doTo stop the truth from hurting youWhen love breaks downThe lies we tell,They only serve to fool ourselves,When love breaks downThe things you doTo stop the truth from hurting youWhen love breaks down, when love breaks down My love and I, we are boxing cleverShe'll never crowd me outFall be free as old confettiAnd paint the town, paint the town When love breaks downThe things you doTo stop the truth from hurtin
pnêyu
Last one, I promise, but I'd be remiss to not mention Bryan Ferry's "Slave to Love": Tell her I'll be waiting In the usual placeWith the tired and weary And there's no escapeTo need a womanYou've got to knowHow the strong get weak And the rich get poor You're running with meDon't touch the groundWe're restless heartedNot the chained and boundThe sky is burningA sea of flameThough your world is changingI will be the same The storm is breakingOr so it seemsWe're too young to reasonToo grown up to dreamNow spring is turningYour face to mineI can hear your laughterI can see your smileNo I can't escapeI'm a slave to love
lizish
cool. Shriekback - This Big Hush Is there a fire in the sky is there a moon up thereIs there anything alive now this darkness is what I hearThis is a breathless silence a moment out of timeI see your face in the shadows the tell tale signs are in your eyesMore than I can hold in my hands running through the cracks like waterAching with a passion inside as deep as the river All desire the ashes and the fireTurning the night inside and the light from you Is there a flame in the dark is there a bright hard starThese creatures look the same nowWe freeze wherever we areWe wake alone in blacknessWe sleep wherever we fallOne dream all around us this big hush infects us allHolding up on animal fear soaking up the waves underwaterTurned to music no one can hearForever in this half lit light
