Wilco/Billy Bragg in NYC??

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

So yesterday's New York Times Arts section ran an article about Woody's revival in the form of some found live recordings, etc...and had THIS to say:

"Mr. Bragg and Wilco will perform together for the first time in seven years on Oct. 17th at Webster Hall in New York, at a benefit show to combat Huntington's disease..."

I see Wilco is playin' Detroit that night...and no word of this anywhere on the internet that I've found...anyone know anything more?

Thanks!

Karen

ps the article is called: Dead 40 Years, Woody Guthrie Stays Busy - Sunday Sept 2nd 2007 New York Times by Geoffrey Himes

Ok, deep breath...so I realize it's for a good cause and all, but how the fuck can they put on a Woody tribute with Bragg there and a bunch of other notables, and no Wilco??? That's RIDICULOUS. What, is Bright Eyes gonna sing California Stars? I think not.

Maybe they can get Wilco on stage early like 5pm and get them on a plane to Detroit a.s.a.p. after that? Obviously the band's first commitment has to be to the fans at the Detroit show. Seriously, this is fucked up. Someone's ass is gonna be fired.

Yeah because you know, it's just that easy. Never mind the equipment and all the hassle involved with that.

I'm not sure I follow your reasoning here. Woody has influenced a ton of musicians. It was unfortunate that Wilco's presence was falsely advertised, but just the fact that they're not taking part in this tribute doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

I was thinking of all the time and effort the band put into the WG songs. If anyone 'should ' be there performing, it's Wilco and Bragg. It's not like they're owed anything, but it would've been the right thing. (frinstance the Mermaid Ave work was profiled in a major way in the travelling Woody exhibit that toured the US in 2000..I saw it in DC).

I guess it just wasn't possible this time. I'll get over it. :)

Wouldn't hold my breath on ever seeing Bragg and Tweedy (Wilco) onstage together anytime soon. Also don't expect a MA III, unless the cull it from the out takes from the first 2 records, which most of us have already.

Woody wrote alot more music than those two mermaid avenue records, you should check them out, start with the dustbowl ballads or maybe the asche recordings

I can't believe they are having this show and not inviting Bob Dylan......someone should be fired..... :lol

And Woody didn't write the music for Mermaid Ave (obviously)......and just as obviously many many musicians have done Woody Guthrie songs that did have music attached.
