Oh I know it's good natured, but you better believe everyone in the mets organization would have preferred to play those extra four games.

Of course they would. But stop changing the subject!! This is about the Yankees losing, not the Mets. You had your chance. Now it's mine. Allllllllll mine.

The NLDS is on TBS. More "Frank" commercials to follow, unfortunately. The ALDS is on Fox, land of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. I'd gladly watch the "Frank" ads over those two douchebags. Besides, Fox will be running some other crappy show's trailer as well, I'd imagine. It wasn't that long ago we were inundated with: "HIS FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!!!" That was a few years ago and is still etched in my memory.

re: Torre. He's done an admiral job as skipper and if he doesn't retire (assuming he is canned) he'll do fine elsehwere. He had a good run with the NYY. Ultimately, I hope he getscanned because I think he's the best they've had in a long while.

Yeah, anyone complaining about TBS' coverage has obviously never seen Fox broadcast baseball. Their broadcasters suck, their graphics suck, their commercials suck, their in-the-stands reporters suck, their studio analysts suck, and the whole package makes the games almost unbearable. If it wasn't somehow still baseball, I wouldn't bother watching at all.

That said, I really wish Frank Caliendo would go away.

I think you're the only one harping on that. The guy put up one of the great seasons of all time. He played on par with everyone else in the playoffs and the pitching was what unraveled them. Steinbrenner already said they're going to resign him, whether that's posturing or not we'll see soon.

I don't think they're going to resign him, but thats just me. Here's my reasoning:

The Rangers were paying them approximately 7 million a year for the right to take him off of their hands. This was a monumentally stupid move for the Rangers. And it was arguably the best deal the Yankees have done in a very long time. They were paying 17 million a year, with Texas taking care of the rest. They were paying him what he was worth, in other words. Now, if I'm not mistaken, and he opts out of his contract, this will make Texas not responsible for the rest of the money they owe him, as well as the Yankees not owing him money. Then, if the Yankees sign him back for even the same amount, it will end up costing them 7 million more, and I think pretty much everyone is in agreement that he won't be signing for the same amount. Instead of paying him what he's actually worth in terms of money per win, they will now be paying him his actual market value, which makes him decidedly less valuable to the franchise.

I, for one, don't buy the bullshit "chokey" Arod thing. He once slapped the ball out of a guys hand and his lips turn a kind of fuschia when he gets cold, so he's an easy target I guess. I've been a big defender of his. The "Mr. April" comments were more about the fact that captain Clutch, Jeter, blew ass during the series while Arod actually performed well under pressure.

For the record, it is arguable that this is one of the great seasons of all time. It may be just his 5th best season. It was a great season, no doubt, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

It seems to me like TBS' broadcasts started to look more and more like what Fox does as the division series went on. Last night might as well have been a Fox telecast as far as I'm concerned, with the endless Frank spots and the cuts to the managers after almost every pitch. The only redeeming quality was no Tim McCarver...

P.S. If Torre's out of a job, I'd be willing to hire him to stand in my front yard on the 31st and scare the crap out of the nrighborhood kids.

I wish ESPN would pick up some of the MLB postseason if only to allow us Erin Andrews doing her thing.

Ding dong, the witch is dead.

:)

Indeed. That was fun. :lol

Truth be told, tho, I feel for Torre. Despite all those years of cursing him, he's a good guy and I'd be glad to have him in Baltimore if I thought anything could help that club. Probably it would just leave him looking even more haggard than the last few years in NY have, and nobody should have to put up with that crap. So go fishing for a while or something, Joe, and find another team to coach and maybe soon you'll get your own shot at knocking the Yankees out of the first round in the future. :dancing

I think you mean "turquoise."

The only thing that'll help that club is a divorce from Angelos.

It's a forgone conclusion that he opts out and frees texas from their obligation to that contract. Value is a weird thing and the yankees simply weren't anywhere close to the playoffs without him this year. If he's worth 15-17 million in your estimation what team is going to be willing to give him what he wants besides the Yankees? And what team has the best chance to put rings on his finger which will be the most difficult thing for him to achieve in what will be a storied hall of fame career? There's only a few teams that can pay him and I imagine there are very few teams he'd be willing to go to. Ceratinly going to a team that never will win isn't going to be on his agenda.

Jeter sucked worse than a-rod, as did just about everyone else. Torre played a pretty significant role in losing a couple of games and he probably should have thrown some bats and bases on the field when he saw how rattled Chamberlin was Friday night.

The Cubs could pay him. The Angels might be players. Can't count out Boston. Each of those teams has just as good a chance of winning in the next 5 years as the Yankees.

Feel bad for Torre? He's had a great career as both a player and a manager with a few WS rings and the benefit of managing the highest payrolled team in the game. Sure, he's had to, put up with Steinbrenner but the payroll/players/money he's made surely make up for that. If he';s anned and opts to retire (which I doubt he;ll do) he'd leave the game as one of the great managers.

Oh, I know all that. But have you seen his nose?!

Joe Torre sneezed in mid August 2005, and set in motion the wind patterns that would become Hurricane Katrina. He has yet to apologize to New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin, despite demands that he do so.

Is that true?
