Wendy
I enter these XRT contests just for the hell of it, figuring I won't win. But this time I did. I don't even know if I can get off work. Plus, I have only listened to Steve Earle a handful of times, and I loved everything I heard, I just never gave enough effort into getting into his catalog. I would totally give this up to some of you Chicago people who are big fans if I could, but I don't think that's something they'd let me do. You have won a pair of passes to see Steve Earle Live from Studio X this Wednesday, October 10th @ Martyrs (3855 N. Lincoln Ave.) in Chicago! The show starts at 7:00pm, but please arrive no later than 6:30pm to ensure all guests are checked in at show time. Your name +1 will be on the XRT list, so please bring a photo ID in order to be checked in. You and your guest must be 21 or older. Is it worth it as a newbie to try to attend? jenbobblehead
DO NOT MISS STEVE EARLE. DoNotMissSteveEarle. I've seen him several times. Always a rockin' show. Three enthusiastic thumbs up.
Lammycat
Steve Earle gets better as the years roll on. His latest album is top notch and the guy just knows how to sing and play. Every time I've seen him the last decade he's been "on," and is always a pleasure to catch live. It's free, too. What the hell, give him a go.

Wendy
I suppose the only downside would be the long drive to Chicago and back on a work night and gas money. It's never really free for me. Plus, I had plans to hear Carl Bernstein speak in Fort Wayne's newly opened Music Hall ... 1600 seats, Hellooooo Wilco! It was Washington Square Serenade that I listened to, and now second time through, so many pretty songs. I keep threatening to get rid of my Rhapsody subscription, but it keeps coming in handy in a pinch. I'll be cramming Steve Earle for the next couple of days. Thanks for the overwhelming "yes" opinions!
Welsh Rich
He is good live - I finally caught him at the Cambridge folk Feastival this summer. I wasn't disappointed. I've also found out he's playing Cambridge in the new year, so I'm going to try and get tickets for that!

cryptique
We saw Steve at the Guinness Fleadh in Chicago back in 2000(?). He played on the smaller second stage with the Del McCoury band backing him up. They all stood around and sang into a single microphone. We also saw Van Morrison, Elvis Costello & Steve Nieve, John Prine, and the Saw Doctors (among others) that day, but Earle's was easily the best performance of them all. Actually I am going with Wendy. Thanks Wendy.... LouieB
