Sir Stewart
Sun City cd - $249.95Jiminy crickets!Lou Reed doing "Let Me See Your ID" - forgot about that one. I love the part in the video documentary of that album, when Daryl Hall calls out Queen, something like "bands plays Sun City, I won't name names. No actually I will - Queen played there last year." Analogman
They took a lot of heat for that deal. I could have probably got that for you - but that one place is gone.

No, I haven't. I'm going to have to wait until Santa Claus (aka my wife) puts it under the Christmas tree. I will be picking this up in a few hours - Sun City cd - $249.95 I picked up a copy on eBay about 6 years ago for around $20. holy cr*p that price has gone up! Here's one on eBay for $117! Drop me a PM if there is a specific track you'd like to hear.
Analogman
I can't believe people pay that much for cds - pathetic. I have seen copies of that in used cd bins from time to time. It's not something I would want though.
redpillbox
For those of you that consider "Unforgettable Fire" the greatest and are itching for a remaster...Paul McGuinness was just quoted in the new Rolling Stone as saying that U2 are planning to re-release all their other albums in a similar fashion (to this new JT rerelease) - Commercialism maybe, but if they come with unreleased songs and outtakes I'm not complaining. Hum. interesting. i hope that they space these out enough so that there is enough time to really see the albums in historical perspective. I wouldn't want a re-release of say "Pop" until say, at least 2017. I could see this effectively being done for Boy (with U2/3 and the early singles and demos), October, War (with "Under a Blood Red Sky" and the "Live at Red Rocks" film), and Unforgettable Fire (with "Wide Awake in America" and the videos from "The Unforgettable Fire Collection"). Not enough time has passed for the others, including Rattle and Hum and Achtung Baby.

There's a wall poster promoting the Joshua Tree re-release in my neighborhood. I've gotta get a pic of it before someone tears it down or draws sunglasses on Bono. Analogman
As do the Beastie Boys and Prince. I figure it would be hard for Prince cds to get re-issued with all the legal shit he stirs up.
Sir Stewart
True enough. I wouldn't mind Warner Brothers doing it with out him. When the album name the Joshua Tree was announced, I was in 7th grade, and had never seen a joshua tree. So for home ec class, our assignment was to design something to be printed as a header on a pad of paper. I drew the words 'U2 - The Joshua Tree' along with a tree that looked sorta like:

That's scary similar to a memory I have. I was in 7th grade also, I think. (Did you graduate High School in 1993?) Joshua Tree was all over the radio and this new thing called cable TV that my family just got. My parents were all worried about the sexually suggestive videos on MTV (When MTV still played videos), but that didn't keep me from watching. U2, The Police, Robert Palmer, Peter Gabriel, Guns 'n Roses. anyway, I didn't even own the Joshua Tree yet and in my music classes were were supposed to listen to your favorite Cassette Tape(!) and design a new cover for it. Mine ended up looking like a huge Oak tree planted in a Tron like grid. Yeah, I had a "mini-mullet" for a while too.

LouieB
I wish more artists would do what the Cure did (and Springsteen) simply throw all the b sides, rareties, etc on a box set and be done with it. Making us buy albums over and over is simply unfair. LouieB
Analogman
I've never heard a Cure cd, but the early U2, Springsteen, and early Tom Petty (minus the first two, which were re-mastered a few years ago) sound terrible. But - as you say, it is drag if you already own all of this stuff. At least they have not did an Elvis Costello/David Bowie and re-release their back catalog three or four times - so far anyhow. We've had this talk before, of course.

LouieBWith all due respect, I wouldn't call a remastered 11-song album with 14 bonus tracks (some previously unreleased in any format) a "slightly different form." I'm happy about what U2 is doing, but maybe that's just cuz I'm a long-time fan who hasn't yet heard a bunch, if not all, of those bonus tracks.
jcroach
Yeah, I'm a long time fan and I've only bought this album once, used in like 1998, so I'm not too upset. I have several of these Boy tracks already as MP3s or from the THE COMPLETE U2 (DIGITAL BOX SET). I'm rather disappointed in this track list. There's really only 2 unreleased tracks, 1 unreleased mix and 2 unreleased live tracks. I would Ihave liked to have seen more from their pre-boy demos.
