alii
There's no good reason not to talk about the tour cancellation, heck some fans might not even know about it, so this topic should really be stickied until the date of the last cancelled show. Anyway, the deal is that Wilco have cancelled:2nd Nov Manchester3rd Nov Birmingham4th Nov Newcastle5th Nov London The official word is:'We are sorry to announce that due to a scheduling conflict we've had to cancel the UK portion of the November tour...We regret any inconvenience this causes and hope to schedule new UK dates soon.' JUDE
I heard they were going into the studio to record some tracks for a new VW campaign. That could be the scheduling conflict.

doctorwu
Hi, Wilco are (along with teenage fanclub) my favorite band and i can't begin to tell you how heartbroken and frustrated i was to read that the UK tour was cancelled (i had a ticket for the brixton gig) , i live in israel and i arranged my entire trip around their gig, i already booked the hotel and paid for my flight (very expensive) so reschudeling the trip was out of the question/I really hope that they have a good reason for the cancellation ,this whole shambles seems really odd. Fortunately for me I'm also going to see "Super furry animals" and "the shins" but the Wilco gig was the ONE i was really looking forward too. A disappointed fan. Mr. Kinsley
The worrisome/messed up part of all this is the lack of proper explanation as to why the cancellations. Kind of makes me wonder if everyone's ok. But didn't they play shows after the announcement but before the GB shows? And if they are ok, then what is up? Some sort of visa trouble? Dispute with the shows' promoter? I'm still hoping that it's because they're re-rehearsing with Andrew Bird so he can learn all the songs when he joins the band. Mr. Kinsley
RE: Andrew Bird - nevermind. Just realized he has dates in Europe at the same time as Wilco, but in different countries.
leev
wow thanks for the tip. id have to agree with you there. seen them several times myself and they are fantastic. once saw them at the fleadh in finsbury park and met them afterwards(still got the signed mud soaked program). norman wanted to stroke my mates beard as it was the best ginger beard hed ever seen. 0ne of the best was an all acoustic gig at the underworld in camden. i seem to remember saws being involved at that one ... EL the Famous
on a side note, finally read that thread and i don't think the UK people are being that crazy. what i do think is crazy, is not just letting people vent and instead constantly reminding them how cool and generous wilco is most of the time (except this instance) to try and make them feel better. british guy: i'm pissed!non-british superfan: well, it does suck your shows cancelled...but you know, the band is pretty generous to it's fans, so you should just keep quiet. they are pretty generous to their fans, so you don't need an explanation...i'm sure there is a good reason, they are pretty generous to their fans you know. RaspberryJam
Venting is one thing, but jesus crimeney, it's just a concert. It's not. It's the money they won't get back from things like nonrefundable travel arrangements, accomodations and "service" charges. That's money fans worked for, won't get back, and with little to no explanation or contrition on the part of the band or management.
bjorn_skurj
I'm sympathetic. I was mad at Gomez for two years for canceling a show the day before my birthday. Something about a "sick relative."

You'll love the Furries, I saw them on Monday for the zillionth time. Bunford used to be my art teacher in school! I am also gutted about the Wilco show. They better play twice as long next time! keeprighton2
SFA are great yes, met them backstage at Brixton a few years back - top blokes. As it happens even without Wilco first week in Nov is a good one for gigs in London. SFA at The Roundhouse, and that Shins gig at Hammersmith (Nov 7th) clashes with The National at Shepherds Bush Empire which is about a mile up the road! Tough choice to make but National win out this time round as the excellent St Vincent (Annie Clark ex Polyphonic Spree) is supporting - I've also seen The Shins several times before including earlier this year in London. When all's said and done we are spoiled for gigs here, anyone going to Band Of Horses at the tiny Bush Hall (also in Shepherds Bush) end of Nov? BTW, I'm going to Dublin and you don't have to fly from Gatwick to get there reasonably cheaply. My FlyBmi flight from Heathrow cost 46 quid return including taxes though I think if you book today its more like 70 quid. Not bad though, and if you do both Wilco gigs. See all u Brits there! ps Wilco should make up for the UK no-show with some intimate gigs next time round. Borderline anyone? Bush Hall? There's also a great little place just off Leicester Square slap bang in the West End called the London Arts Theatre - saw Cherry Ghost there in May.
Welsh Rich
Wilco at the Borderline, now that WOULD be something. I saw Ryan Adams there last year, was amazing!
keeprighton2
Wilco at the Borderline, now that WOULD be something. I saw Ryan Adams there last year, was amazing! My Borderline moment was March '91 - Bingo Hand Job - aka REM with Billy Bragg and Robin Hitchcock in tow.
