Chuck Turner
Just imagine all the arguments if this was a Yes message board! I was thinking the same thing . . . Nels kinda reminded me of Steve Howe every so often, especially playing with Wayne Pete (back in the early to mid 90's) I remember introducing Patrick Moraz to Nels Cline around 93. Moraz was there (at the on going New Music Mondays)to see U Totem . . . Nels Cline Trio was my favourite band back then . . . . NCT closed most evenings . . .
Guest David Puddy
Truth be told........the addition of Nels has pushed me back into the most casual of fans category. The glory years of the post-Bennet, pre-Nels era is still what gets me hot and bothered. IMHO, what Jeff and the boys did with the use of space and tension during those years along with Jeffs raggedy guitar was just exactly perfect. Now its all washed over by Nels........<sigh>..... i think this is exactly how my friend, and i think myself perhaps, feel. well said. kudos.
Saint Genevieve
I LIKE NELS CLINE AND GENERALLY THINK THAT WILCO HAS UNDER-UTILIZED HIS TALENTS BY PUTTING OUT A SOFT-ROCK RECORD. KICKING TELEVISION (tHE ALBUM) IS GOOD, THOGH. I AGREE.
stooka
The guitarwork in Impossible Germany is proof enough for me that Nels and Pat compliment Jeff Tweedy just fine. I like the personalities - Nels appears to be off in another dimension. Intense. Some of his chops remind me of Jeff Beck. Pat Sansone has a lot of fun and if his mannerisms were getting in the way of Jeff's idea of Wilco, I'm sure he would have heard about it. His posturing on ACL was fantastic! A fitting tribute to the older bands like The Kinks.
Bubs101
Unless they record a classic album with Nels, he'll be forgotten by the time the next line-up change in favour of Jay

A fitting tribute to the older bands like The Kinks.in the vernacular, "i fixed it for ya/you." i know you sharp folks will find the fixin'. this thread is very interesting. i've had mixed impressions of nels (but i'm relatively new -- a lot newer than he is). sometimes it seems he places an electric blanket over everything else and i end up waiting until he's done. but . . . he's fantastic in "impossible germany" and in other spots on SBS, plus i absolutely love what he and glenn (not to mention jeff) do in "war on war" on jeff's "sunken treasure" dvd. it's the best "war on war" i've been able to find. great song. so i'm not the only 1 who sees kinks remnants in pat's posturing! is he a kink's son or what? to repeat, i get a kick out of him. he spans the decades. may be sort of a renaissance man. (does he ever speak?)

Golden Smoghead
I think Nels makes a lot of sense for what Wilco currently is... Kinda acid-jazz-jam-folk or something. Now whether THAT is a good thing...
