Hell yes! That video footage is bad ass. Gave me chills....I have listened to that song a hundred times and it gives me chills every time. Thanks Stookonya!

Conor may be fit to string M Wards guitar......maybe.

I mean he has some good songs but he's completely out classed by Matt.

wow, that video was awesome

conor's got much better recently, i use to dig his old stuff but now find it a little hard to stomach. Im Wide Awake is perfect record, Digital Ash too and i really love the new one especially how much better he got at singing, much deeper and less affected

and i agree with the comment about Brakeman, what a tune!

i want dr. dog to play in my backyard every night.

Me too. Oh, so.... totally... I'd give them beers and everything.

I still think Brakeman is one of the best songs written this year.

:yes Conor takes a lot of shit, but I think he's pretty goddamn talented. Cassadaga exceeded any expectations I had for it, turned out to be a pretty incredible album for this year.

i love Brakeman, but on the whole i found Cassadaga to feel kinda half baced unfortunately. i don't know if it'll be anywhere in my top 50 or not... thinking probably not. i tried forever to get into Conor/Bright Eyes, it was almost always his voice that i couldn't get over, so thankfully on some songs on Lifted and especially since, his voice has gotten to be actually pretty good most of the time. i just feel like this record lacked a singular focus or theme to tie it together nicely, both topically and musically.

not to say it's a bad record, but after his double dose of great records he certainly had his work cut out.

Why must you be argumentative? ;)

So, and I know several people will disagree with me here, but I'm Wide Awake is Conor's best work. Ever. I thought that album was absolutely amazing. The reason I didn't expect much from Cassadaga was due to the Four Winds EP's rather bland showing.

But, there are several tracks from Cassadaga that are really great: Clairaudients, Four Winds, Brakeman, Hot Knives, Soul Singer, Classic Cars, I Must Belong Somewhere...

Cassadaga is currently around #25 on my list... But I'm still working on it.

Conor is playing 2 shows here at a small club in Minneapolis on Dec 29 & 30th... they are billed under his name and not Bright Eyes, and apparently he will not be playing ANY Bright Eyes material and will be debuting a new backing band...

so... if this means M. Ward will be at those 2 shows :o

already have a ticket to the 30th show, but if Matt is invovled, i'll hit up both for sure.

and while i enjoy Bright Eyes (mostly post Lifted, although the last record was so so), Matt is so so much more amazing.

I hope these get taped

  • 2 weeks later...

Has this collaboration been confirmed? If it's official, when are they recording/releasing stuff? Has anyone heard anything about M. Ward doing any other recording? He's one of my all-time favorite artists, and I'm wondering what he's up to these days. A new M. Ward solo CD would be a godsend.

Do you have a reliable source?

considering i was the person who started that rumor before Pitchfork even picked up on it:

;)

but yeah, I know for certain Matt will be nowhere near Minnesota on NYE and the source is 100% reliable.

trust me I wish it was true (i bought the ticket partially on the hunch, because I much prefer Matt over Conor).

OK. Sorry I am a little slow. Didn't put it all together. Thank you, helps a lot. I will be passing on the little guy they call Conor then.

I'd like to know what is bland about Reinvent The Wheel, Smoke Without Fire and Tourist Trap (probably one of Oberst absolute best)?

Taylor is a pretty solid guitar player from Birmingham. If you haven't heard him I would recommend checking him out. Only down side is that most of his albums contain the same 5 or 6 songs with a few others thrown in. He and Conor are usually pretty good together, or at least last time I saw them.
