caliber66
That's too bad. I didn't have the motorcycle toy, either. RIP EK.
tongue-tied
"According to reports, his lower back exploded when nurses changed the channel to a Ron Paul commercial." that's Wikipedia for you.
Analogman
I had several, as well as, the nifty pad that went on the bike handlebar deal. I still have the newspaper clipping about when he jumped the Snake River Canyon.
Mr. Kinsley
Oh, man! He was my absolute hero growing up. I had the red, white and blue versions of the toy - which I stupidly got rid of in HS. I even had some comic books. Hmm, wonder if they're still in my (very small) collection? Thanks for the memories EK. Try not to break anything jumping the pearly gates. Analogman
He was just in the news recently - something to do with a lawsuit with one of those rap dudes. I also recall seeing Evel Knievel (1971) and Viva Knievel! (1977) at the drive-in.
tugmoose
And I just had my bike out today, keeping the battery juiced up. Godspeed on that last, big jump, Evel.

Analogman
The SRC attempt was huge!!!! What an Icon! Along with Larry Csonka, he was one of my heroes when I was 6 years old.
MrRain422
Pretty amazing that he lived to be so old.
Analogman
His son sure puts him to shame when it comes to jumping over stuff and succeeding. Of course, his bike is a lot lighter for one thing.
boywiththorninside
Curtis Mayfield's estate should have sued. RIP, Evel. I don't recall Evel's heyday, but I always loved the Evel-inspired "Bart the Daredevil" Simpsons episode.

cryptique
He was a major figure in my childhood. To think, all those times I watched him almost die over thirty years ago... Weird that now it's actually happened.
ryman 317
We absolutely did stupid things with bicycles and ramps inspired by Evel when I was a kid. I went through two of the toy motorcycles and I also had the matching van. I clearly remember having my mother wake me up one night late so I could watch one of his jumps on tv, i don't know why it was on so late. He did it all on what was pretty much a factory Harley Davidson, which makes what he did even more insane.
tugmoose
The SRC attempt was huge!!!! What an Icon! I always thought the SRC thing was lame, though it got the most hype. He was sitting in a rocket, which they were gonna shoot over a canyon. BFD. Hadn't we already shot a few guys to the freakin' moon? The bike stuff was all cool, though.
