junkiesmile
Greetings everyone. I have been lurking around this sight for some time but I have never posted anything. Since I now find myself reading it several times a day I figured I might as well get my feet wet. I'll admit to being a little intimidated. I've seen many newbies run through the ringer, but what the heck, I don't think it's possible for Wilco fans to be truly mean spirited. So..... I'm a long time Wilco fan. I picked up a copy of Being There when it first came out and have been hooked ever since. Fortunately for me Wilco also happens to be my wife's favorite band. Normally we'll just throw in any one of the albums and listen straight through but sometimes we like a mix. My question to you good people is, what is the perfect Wilco mix? Sometimes my mixes are one cd and sometimes they're two. More often than not they start with At Least That's You Said and end with Via Chicago. I've never been quite able to achieve mix bliss. Anyway, there may already be a thread about this but I have not seen it and I thought it might be fun to try some other people's ideas of what the perfect mix would be. My wife just thinks I'm a dork.
Edie
Welcome! I find live shows to be the best -- pre-mixed is one way to think of them "shaken, not stirred"
junkiesmile
Welcome! I find live shows to be the best -- pre-mixed is one way to think of them "shaken, not stirred" I love the live shows as well. The Owl and the Bear is a godsend. I'm asking for an external hard drive for christmas.
H.Stone
I agree, live shows are great. I especially love Tweedy solo at Hardly Strictly this year and the Troutdale, OR show. I hear you on the external hard drive...
froggie
the wilco mix i have for listening to in the office is to rip all the songs to mp3 and burn them to a data cd and click on whatever i fancy at the time

ryanamber
I'm talking about a stranded on an island and only have one Wilco cd type mix.If it helps, I've noticed that it has to flow perfectly. Just like the old mixed tapes. I personally like the flow between the end of I am trying to break your heart, and I'm always in love. The feedback at the end of IATTBYH leads perfectly into the intro of IAIL. Cheers.
sweetheart-mine
I'm talking about a stranded on an island and only have one Wilco cd type mix.if i get what you're asking, i'd have to include several of jeff's sunken treasure dvd versions: sunken treasure, elt, the thanks i get, war on war, summerteeth, i am trying to break your heart, how to fight loneliness, shot in the arm, california stars, theologians. from sbs, side with the seeds, you are my face, impossible germany, sky blue sky, and on&on&on are musts. these (some from live shows and some from albums) would be crucial: pieholden suite (i love that thing!), at least that's what you said, reservations, less than you think, hell is chrome, radio cure, jesus etc., via chicago, cars can't escape. plus jeff's version of be not so fearful (bill fay). uh oh, looks like i'm already over the limit at 25 and haven't even included wilco doing when the roses bloom again. that has to be on there because it's how i found wilco (via the mermaid avenue documentary "man on the sand"). this is a great question, because i've burned about 10 different cd's and each one misses a few that i wished were included. ok, i have to cut about three songs from above: reluctantly, those would be how to fight loneliness, theologians, and cars can't escape. oh hell, can't i have two cd's, pleeeeeeease? stooka
When I first started to listen to Wilco, I made this mix. I used Acoustica software to blend them together. Some overlap and some don't. Bottom line is I would probably give this mix to someone who was interested in giving Wilco a try as opposed to any single album. A primer, if you will 1) Kamera2) Why Would You Wanna Live3) We're Just friends4) I Must Be High5) She's A Jar6) No Poetry7) Casino Queen8) Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again)9) Heavy Metal Drummer10) I'm The Man Who Loves You11) Pot Kettle Black12) Shot In The Arm
junkiesmile
It could be two I suppose. I've struggled with that in the past. I'll start my list and end up with enough songs to fill four cd's. All the songs seem essential. That'swhy it's so hard.

joeginto
I can't make Wilco or Tweedy sampler mixes any more. I have a CD jukebox at home and made a category of all Jeff/Wilco CD's and I just choose the group and hit shuffle. I do the same on my iPod. I found the same predicament when trying to do R.E.M. mixes when I was in college or Beatles mixes. When you really, really love an artist, choosing the right mix just becomes too much work because you're never satisfied with it. Least I'm never not. Maybe that says something about me, I don't know.
