H.Stone
This song live was really powerful for me; the studio version doesn't move me, though.

the_fliz1
It reminds me of the theme to Guiding Light for some reason.

mrs_leroy_brown
On & On is almost too sad for me to listen to. I think the last time I did, I cried solidly for about a half an hour.
H.Stone
am I the only one who...doesn't like this song? No. I didn't like it at all until I heard it live. It was powerful live, but I'm still not a fan of the studio version. I typically skip over it when listening to studio SBS.
froggie
I typically skip over it when listening to studio SBS. thats a sonic impossibility unless yours is a special version of the disk

sticky2000
I think this song has to be my joint favourite with Side With The Seeds its unbelievably beautiful the lyrics contrast brilliantly in feeling and emotion to the music and thats what makes this song so good the studio and live versions are equally good i think sometimes Jeff misses emotion slightly live, but in other places he absolutely nails it i can understand why people can cry to this, but it makes me positive and happy, especially "on and on and on, we'll be together yeah" kinda sayin that nothin can brake us apart and that you have to accept inevitabilities and move on, enjoy life while you can and take everything kinda wish I'd heard this song much earlier in life, its already my kind of motto of how i should be definately use it at a wedding or as the song of a relationship, as long as your partner enjoys it as well How can you skip this song??!!?!?!?!?!? It finishes the album so well and brings it to a conclusion what is it about the live version that people like over the studio?? sticky xx rich
IRememberDBoon
the most underrated part of On and On and On is
Edie
It's use in the DVD is wonderful. I'm a fan.
H.Stone
How can you skip this song??!!?!?!?!?!? It finishes the album so well and brings it to a conclusion "Let's Not Get Carried Away" is the last track on mine, so maybe I'm just excited to get to it? what is it about the live version that people like over the studio?? I can only speak for myself, of course, but for me it's being engulfed in the sights and sounds-- the drums, the lighting they use during it, the visual parts of JT's delivery... I loved it live. After that, the studio version was better for me and I don't always skip it, but it's definitely in my bottom 3 of the album. We don't all have to love the same ones, do we? It's use in the DVD is wonderful I agree, really nice.
sticky2000
sorry happeningstone i didnt mean any offence by this!! just how strongly i feel about the song u kno i cant help it lol let's not get carried away?!?!?! is this the US ending track?? ill have to find it and listen to it!! yeh i can see your point about the whole live experience livening up the emotion!! and Glenn's part in the track during the breakdown is definately underrated, such a cool drum part!! sticky xx rich
Smokestack Joe
well id like to play this song for the woman i love who recently shunned me but that probably wouldnt go over too well. i was smoking on my front porch in the cold winter night with headphones on and this song on my ipod and it just hit me. maybe it was the moment of despair that i was in but the song hit me differently than it has before. H.Stone
sorry happeningstone i didnt mean any offence by this!! None taken at all. It's always interesting to hear how different songs hit people differently. Glad you have one you love so much.
cash
i was smoking on my front porch in the cold winter night with headphones on and this song on my ipod and it just hit me. maybe it was the moment of despair that i was in but the song hit me differently than it has before. same thing happened to me with "less than you think." I was sorta wrapped up in thought and thinking more was making it worse. My ipod was on shuffle and went to that song. It was a crazy coincidence, cuz there was a lot less to the situation than i thought
Jesusetc84
It's a gorgeous song, one of only 3 on Sky Blue Sky that I love.
WilcoIsLove
I agree its one of the most Beautiful songs Wilco has done in my opinion.. Its a sad yet gorgeous track..The lyrics are haunting.. If I recall correctly it has made me shed a few tears. My favorite line "I will live in you or you will live in meUntil we disappear together in a dream" absolutely beautiful. What makes it so emotional for me is the thought of going through this situation.. Losing Your Lover but wanting to be with them Forever.. It hits me hard everytime Great song. Wilco Worshipper
I truly love this one and I agree it hits you (well me) even more so live. The studio version always makes me a little sad but when they played it on June 24th (after all the talk about them NOT playing it), I lost it COMPLETELY. It was an INCREDIBLE, powerful experience... LouisvilleGreg
Still does nothing for me, despite the meaning behind it, etc. I purposefully left it off of my ipod.
sticky2000
wow GregRVA!! I'm surprised at that response, what tracks do you like on the album then, or other seminal songs from Wilco that you like? Wilco Worshipper is the kind of response I was expecting, lucky that he's been able to see them live... why did the UK gigs have to be cancelled grrrrr
lamradio
You know, intersting story about this song.. A good friend of my wife's sister was in a terrible car accident. Her sister, sister's husband, and one of their two children were killed. Of course my wife's friend was devestated. My wife wanted to do what she could to offer some comfort, so she gave her "On & On & On". Her friend had never even heard of Wilco.. She loved it so much and said that it really did help with the pain.. That's just a perfect example of how music can have a great effect on people. Especially during hard times.
