Katie3
Hey everyone, Just curious if any of you have plans for valentines day. Looking for ideas still, personally. Or you can discuss how its all a corporate sham made up by Hallmark for people to buy more gifts. Or just say whatever you want in relation to Valentines Day. But I'm still looking for ideas! PopTodd
Dinner (out... or in, if one of you can cook) and romance seems to always be a good idea.
poppydawn
I've never been a fan of Valentine's Day, and now it really gets overlooked because my daughter's birthday is Feb. 15th. Our Valentine's Day plans this year involve trying to figure out how to throw a fourth birthday party that doesn't automatically have a Valentine's Day theme, especially when the guest of honor wants pink cupcakes. I think we'll put plastic dinosaurs on them. I'm a huge help, I know.
Guest David Puddy
valentine's day is pretty silly. anything more than just dinner and romance (flowers, cards, little candy hearts, blah blah blah) is just absurd. hopefully your other will agree. i'm quite happy that my girlfriend would rather i spend money on the food and alcohol she's going to consume than on some dumbass stuffed animal she'll throw in her closet. Lammycat
Nobody celebrates Valentine's Day anymore.
yermom
We treat it like birthdays or Christmas and just exchange the same kinds of gifts we'd do for those (records or books, usually) instead of trying for some kind of hearts and flowers romantic theme but I do usually get flowers also....and it's always a good time to listen to the Dead Milkmen's "If You Love Somebody, Set Them on Fire"
Guest David Puddy
but I do usually get flowers also. actually flowers are fine.
Analogman
Nobody celebrates Valentine's Day anymore. Well you wish upon a star that turns into a planeAnd I guess that's right on parWho's left to blame?
yermom
Also, handmade cards are good too. We're both a little crafty with paper and glue, so we get creative in that area. A couple of years ago, he designed me a messenger bag...found a pattern, went and picked out some cute furry material and had a seamstress friend put it together, then hand stitched a heart on it himself. That was a definite stand-out gift. Anything that takes more effort than just waltzing into a store and throwing down some dough is always cooler for me.

Same here, I agree. Just whatever I feel like doing, maybe nothing. Valentine's day is a joke of a day. but seriously, i think my biggest issue with valentine's day has always been that the day is supposed to be out you and your significant other celebrating your like/love for one another, and yet we always have to act/dress completely different than we do the other 364 days of the year. which is absurd. poppydawn
Well you wish upon a star that turns into a planeAnd I guess that's right on parWho's left to blame? If you were a pillI'd take a handful at my willAnd I'd knock you back with something sweet and strongPlenty of times you wake up in February make-upLike the moon and the morning star you're gone Tonight makes love to all your kindTomorrow's makin' Valentines Hey you pop up in this old placeSo sick and so refined (divine?)Are you strung out on some face?Well I know it ain't mine If you were a pill, I'd take a handful at my will,And I'd knock you back with something sweet and strongTrouble keeping your head up when you're hungry and you're fed up,Like a moon and a lone star you're gone Tonight makes love to all your kindTomorrow's makin' Valentines If you were a pill, I'd take a handful at my will,And I'd knock you back with something sweet as wineYesterday was theirs to say, this is their world and their timeWell if tonight belongs to you, tomorrow's mine Tonight makes love to all your kindTomorrow's makin' Valentines
cryptique
Or you can discuss how its all a corporate sham made up by Hallmark for people to buy more gifts.I'll go with this. We rarely do much on Valentine's Day. Sometimes we go to dinner, but not anyplace fancy.
Sweet Papa Crimbo
I'm driving a big lazy car rushin' up the highway in the darkI got one hand steady on the wheel and one hand's tremblin' over my heartIt's pounding baby like it's gonna bust right on throughAnd it ain't gonna stop till I'm alone again with you A friend of mine became a father last nightWhen we spoke in his voice I could hear the lightOf the skies and the rivers the timberwolf in the pinesAnd that great jukebox out on Route 39They say he travels fastest who travels aloneBut tonight I miss my girl mister tonight I miss my home Is it the sound of the leavesleft blown by the waysideThat's got me out here on this spooky old highway tonightIs it the cry of the riverWith the moonlight shining throughThat ain't what scares me babyWhat scares me is losing you They say if you die in your dreams you really die in your bedBut honey last night I dreamed my eyes rolled straight back in my headAnd God's light came shinin' on throughI woke up in the darkness scared and breathin' and born anewIt wasn't the cold river bottom I felt rushing over meIt wasn't the bitterness of a dream that didn't come trueIt wasn't the wind in the grey fields I felt rushing through my armsNo no baby it was youSo hold me close honey say you're forever mineAnd tell me you'll be my lonely valentine
