don't know if i can. their last two albums only came out on the new clock-work radio format, so it would take ages to convert them. they sold well in africa, though.

Swine! They're bound to be replayed on the World Service soon. I'll have to grab a :pirate copy on telex until then.

We're talking "favorites" rather than what I think are the ten best records, so here's that list as it stands today (tomorrow it would be different):

alphabetical order (I couldn't rank these if I tried)...

Centro-matic - Fort Recovery

The Clash - London Calling

Ted Leo/Pharmacists - The Tyranny of Distance

The Posies - Frosting on the Beater

Sand Rubies - s/t

Spoon - A Series of Sneaks

Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run

Stiff Little Fingers - Go For It

Whiskeytown - Strangers Almanac

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

When I made my first cut for this list, there were 42 albums on it. :rolleyes

I love the whole Teenage Fanclub catalog but for some reason I find myself going back to Songs From Northern Britain more and more. Maybe I've mellowed out as I've aged and that might be their "mellow" record. 13 is way up there for me too. I listened to that album to death when it came out. It just needs to be remastered.

U2--Achtung Baby

Wilco--Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

Lucinda Williams--Car Wheels On A Gravel Road

Pixies--Come On Pilgrim

Bob Dylan--Blood On the Tracks

Rolling Stones--Exile On Main Street

Miles Davis--Kind of Blue

Grateful Dead--American Beauty

Soul Coughing--Ruby Vroom

Willie Nelson--Willie Nelson's Greatest Hits (And Some That Will Be)

I could easily replace Blood On the Tracks with Highway 61 Revisited and American Beauty with Workingman's Dead. It seems sort of weird to have a greatest hits album on my list, but my family played that album so much when I was growing up. My first memory actually involves a Willie Nelson song, in fact. I think before too much longer I'll probably be putting a Nels Cline Singers album in my top ten, probably either The Giant Pin or Instrumentals. These are all old favorites, though.
