Ray_iii
Has anyone framed their Riviera show poster yet? If so, did you find a pre-made frame for it? Where? I'm looking for ideas .... I would really like to avoid paying for a very expensive custom frame. THANKS!!
VenusStopsTrain2
I haven't framed one but have you tried looking online..possibly at any craft stores..Michaels, Ben Franklin Crafts, Bed Bath and Beyond as a weird possibility...Or maybe try sending a message to j4lackey since he designed them...he might be able to tell you where to find some at. Degenerex
I'd be interested in this as well... I think I'd also like to include the concert ticket at the bottom of the frame. If anyone figures this out let me know.
cryptique
Some stuff I learned when I was super-poor: Some craft stores (or maybe photo/framing stores?) carry frame kits where you can buy the sides and top/bottom of a frame separately, so if you need a weird frame size, you can do that. I think they come in one-inch increments. Hardware stores often cut glass much more cheaply than a frame store would. It might not be UV-blocking or whatever, but it's glass. A matte for the poster/frame, if you wanted one, would be a whole 'nother issue, though. Of course you can always buy and cut your own if you're handy that way (I'm not, particularly). Dr. Steve Brule
Ikea has cheap frames. Not sure if they have the exact size though.
H.Stone
Speaking of the posters, are those of you who have all 5 framing them together (one frame) so the Being There guitar is more obvious?
Pezish
Michael's has frame parts you can buy to fit the poster (they come in pairs). They usually have 40% off one item coupons in the paper. Then go to Home Depot and have a piece of plexiglass cut to the frame size. You have to pay for the full sheet but it's worth it...
Ray_iii
Speaking of the posters, are those of you who have all 5 framing them together (one frame) so the Being There guitar is more obvious? It would be great to have all 5 together; if one would be willing to spend the money on custom framing it would look amazing. Personally, I was wondering about framing just one poster. raquelita
I bought a frame from target that looked almost perfect... turns out it was about a CM too small in the width (but on a good note, my wilco chicago skyline poster will fit with no problem )... I guess I'll try building a frame from Michael's if nobody has any luck. PS - If anyone DOES have all 5 posters, I want to see them all together!!!!!! pleeeeease
LCH
Speaking of the posters, are those of you who have all 5 framing them together (one frame) so the Being There guitar is more obvious? Took mine in to be framed on Saturday. I am having each framed separately--but I will hang them side-by-side. This will cost a pretty penny--but still will be less expensive than one big frame. (Why, I am not certain. The folks at the frame shop tried to explain it to me. Something about a bulk discount when you have 5 or more things framed at once.) I feel like a moron. I just realized that the Being There guitar is across the posters, after reading the above post.

I know of a cottage place near where I live. I could get a quote for you guys if you want. He's done other stuff for me and I was supprised by the low cost and high quality. I guess I should tell my wife what I have planned
j4lackey
The posters are about 12 x 33, and the image size is about 10 3/8 x 30 3/4. I am horrible at framing stuff. I made block prints for 20 years before I started painting, and I was always very pissed that the framing cost more than the print, so I was happy when I switched to painting, cause I use canvases that are fastened in the back, so I paint the sides, eliminating the need for framing. The signed copies of the two Tweedy posters I did hang in my kids' music room (formerly known as the dining room), and are just stuck in cheap poster frames that I cut down with a utilitly blade to fit the exact dimension of the poster. If you do this, be very careful, as it's a somewhat hard job, and the knife can slip. Keep your thumbs and knees out of the way, and take your time. And use a metal straight-edge. There may have been better ways to frame these, but money is tight, and they look okay. I think this might be a good way to go with the Residency posters, if you're framing multiple posters, as they are already big, and this way, you could have them on the wall separately, but still close enough together to recognize the guitar. If I think of a better way, I will definitely post it. Having much flu and no caffeine, this is what I can come up with today. If anyone gets theirs framed and can show pics, please do. Degenerex
I know you shouldn't talk about money, religion, or politics in public, but to those who had them all framed separately... how much did it cost? And while we're at it... who are you going to vote for?
PearlJamNoCode
I've heard good things about this site... http://americanframe.com/
ms. yvon
i've had good luck buying odd sized frames at aaron bros. they usually have pre-cut mattes in them to show multiple photos in one frame. i take the matte out. then i buy a sheet of matte board, mount my poster on top using acid-free tape and call it a day. aaron bros. often has buy one get one for a penny sales. full disclosure: i have at least 5 posters framed and in a stack leaning on my couch. allgodsmoney
I talked to these guyshttp://www.rusticraftcompany.com/ they quoted me $33 a poster with wood and non-nonglare glass I like their work I've used em before the artist suggested all 5 be in seperate frames... it is what it is
j4lackey
I talked to these guyshttp://www.rusticraftcompany.com/they quoted me $33 a poster with wood and non-nonglare glassHoly shit, that's a good deal! Especially with the non-glare. the artist suggested all 5 be in seperate frames...Only if framed in poster frames, cause I don't think they make one big enough to hold all 5 (I could be wrong). I made them all with the same background color so they could be framed together, and it would look like they have a blue matte. I'm curious to see how these turn out. And I'm definitely gonna check into your Rustic guys.
foolnrain97
I'd really like to see a picture of them all framed together, if someone does that. Mostly because that's going to be a gigantic piece of matte! If you're making calls to local frame stores, ask about a student discount. Some places offer those to art students. Put on your best beret, act like you're too depressed to really care and take your posters in! Johnny and cryptique offered up the most inexpensive ways to go about this. If you decided to try and cut your own matte, matte cutters can be very inexpensive and definitely beat out an exacto and a straight-edge.
zspaul
When I saw these posters I thought it might look cool to just get two giant sheets of plexi-glass and sandwhich the posters between them. Probably pretty cheap too from Home Despot
VenusStopsTrain2
So has anyone framed theirs yet? I'm just wondering what they look like framed? Thanks
Guest Jules
So has anyone framed theirs yet? I'm just wondering what they look like framed? ThanksI'm planning on doing all 5 together (local frame shop owes me one, so they're cutting me a deal). I'll post a pic.
isadorah
for anyone living in/near Washington, DC, there's this place: http://www.framersworkroomdc.com/ i'm going by there this week to start working on my concert posters (non-residency since i don't have the residency posters). i'll let folks know more details once i check it out if anyone is interested. ____ edit: i went by there, not worth it! they wanted $40 for the mat alone not counting the frame. by the time you added in the cost of the frame, glass, and backing materials, you might as well go somewhere else and pay them to do all of the work for you at the same price. disappointing. VenusStopsTrain2
YAY i'm so excited and surprised! My posters arrived today It was the first thing I did when I came home to open them and look closely at them...then put them back in the tube so I don't ruin them before i attempt to get them signed Thank You Thank You Thank You John!!!! Your posters rock more to actually see and hold then they do online!! lol
cryptique
I took all five to the framer over the weekend. It's going to be scary expensive, and I'm not even having them matted. It'll be great to finally hang 'em on the wall, though.
Scubajib
I know you shouldn't talk about money, religion, or politics in public, but to those who had them all framed separately... how much did it cost? And while we're at it... who are you going to vote for? I paid $95 per frame but they are beautiful. Dark Blue Metal frame. With UV Glass. I couldnt find any standart frames that would work. You dont want to have too much distance between frames ie matting etc.
