Guest Hollinger
John Doe & Nels Cline... Gimme Shelter. Holy fuckk. Holy shit. Holy fuck. Pot Kettle Black. Cars Can't Escape. A Magazine Called Sunset. Passenger Side. Holy fucking shit. I might say more tomorrow when I'm coherent. Wow. I was front row center (ok there was one small girl in front of me, close enough) and it was awesome. Jeff's voice was a bit shot, but the setlist more than made up for it. I hope to god the crazy asian gentleman beside me frequents this place because he got some excellent pictures. I don't even know what else to say right now. John Doe is god. Preferred B
Great shows this weekend! We're currently taking advantage of IHOP free Wifi ... I hope Jeff gets some good rest for his voice in the next week or so.
VenusStopsTrain2
I was on the right originally about 6 people rows back from where Pat stood when he played guitar..then after the first set i moved up to 4th row. It rocked. I went and asked the sound man and he kindly gave me one of the set lists I loved the Val Air..and I'd so go see a show again.

Guest Hollinger
After the show, one of the roadies hit me in the head with one of Jeff's picks. Luckily I found it on the ground before anyone else noticed.

deepseacatfish
That was loads of fun. Glad to hear Magazine/Cars Can't Escape. There were a couple obnoxious drunken folks around but not too bad (luckily!). Nels with the macrame owl on the guitar at the end was pretty funny. Seemed like everyone was having a good time. John Doe made for a fine opener. I think Australia is definitely in for a treat (seeing as Jeff's voice will likely be back too), but the setlist was grand and the band was in top shape as always. I wanted drum sticks but I stood around a bit and it didn't look like they were going to bring them over. LOL, at the last Val Air show I actually got hit in the head by a flying drumstick. Apparently my dome is just a big roadie target. Unfortunately people were much more aware and managed to grab that before I got to it.

VenusStopsTrain2
Probably. I'm 5'3 with longish brown hair and i was wearing a brown sweater with jeans...it was Really Really hot and after i moved up i took the sweater off and was glad i had worn a white shirt under. If you go to wherever photos are posted of us from here i posted one ages ago. after i moved up i actually was next to a tall guy (he was on my right) wearing a black shirt and maybe glasses? he kept gesturing at pat and it was funny. agonistes
I was also dead center, 3-4 people back -- and oh MY. (I was the tallish girl in the black 3/4 length shirt and jeans, brown hair.) I'm sitting in the Kansas City airport right now, waiting on my flight back to Denver, and I'm getting ready to start editing my picture collection. I have no idea why the security guys didn't notice me and throw me out, but I managed to stealth my way into the meet and greet session at the end. I got a chance to talk to Nels about John Doe -- apparently when Nels was growing up and was paying attention to the L.A. scene, John Doe and X were his be-all and end-all, and he said that getting the chance to play with him now was "like some kind of miracle". It's good to know that he gets as excited about other people as we do about him. Anybody see any tapers?
joshdilo
Shot in The Arm was as good as Ive ever heard live. Was able to go back stage before and after the show. May sound boring, but Nels Cline is truly one of the nicest guys Ive ever met. Said he was hopping a plane to Paris the next day to record and would meet the boys in Aussie land. What a life. Also was struck by how genuine Jeff sounded about wishing his voice could put on a better show. Here you have five guys only hours away from ending this tour and instead of mailing it in, they play one hell of a show. What a fucking band.

cryptique
Ah, I'm very strongly reminded of that first Val Air show. What a great great venue. Does it still have that signage? That rules!
Three dollars and 63 cents
Ashes of American Flags? To open? Wow, that would've made me cry for sure. If I keep requesting it, one of these days they'll play it at a show I'm at. Another stellar set list. Glad they're all headed home for a few days of much-deserved rest. Thanks for spoiling us all rotten for the last few weeks, Wilco!
WilcoOfTheDay
Just got home....I can't believe the set list. My boyfriend requested She's a Jar and I requested Passenger Side and both got played!! Great to hear some live songs that I had never heard before...Pottle Kettle Black, Cars Can't Escape, Ashes, Mountain Bed, Casino Queen and so many others. I honestly couldn't even really tell that Jeff's voice was gone when he was singing, still sounded great to me. The band gets better every time I see them. First time at that venue and def. digged it. I saw a taper on my way out that had been sitting in the seating area. Were some annoying drunks around but didn't care too much because I was having such a great time. And the drunk chick in the middle that loved John Doe was actually pretty hilarious. I was second row to the way left just where I like to be to watch Nels wail on the guitar. I'm only sad that I don't know when I'll get to see them again. I love WILCO!!!!
