I think it'd be cool to see who you guys are going out of your way to catch at the local coffeeshop / dive bar.

Personally I think our local guy John Bolten is fantastic. Very much country / folk / Americana. I love how he just uses one guitar on these recordings, but still makes them compelling as hell.

And to be clear, this is NOT me! haha. I wish I wrote songs this cool, authentic, sincere.

I try to always see David Todoran when he performs in Fort Wayne (he's a teacher during the day and does not perform too often anymore). He took part in a wonderful fundraiser last year for The Embassy* where each band did covers of some famous band, and he did Johnny Cash. His version of "Ring of Fire" was so unbelievably beautiful, the audience of 2500 was hushed and in awe. He sounded sorta like Joey Burns from Calexico performing a flamenco/mariachi version of the JC song.

warning - terrible sound quality but you can get the idea if anyone cares to listen. I like that his students chimed in on the comments. So much talent, not enough audience.

*our big beautiful historic theater where Godsmack and Helen Reddy and the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic perform :rolleyes

my roomate's name is jack. he just records through a mixer into his mac in our tiny apartment, yet his music sounds professionally done. he plays all the instruments despite having never taken a music lesson in his life. hes slowly starting to gain a following here in Blacksburg, VA but ive always liked to believe that more recognition is due his way. its well worth your time, this is assure you..

His tracks do sound like a Sub Pop final record. That's half a compliment, half a complaint about SubPop production values. :D

Seriously though, good stuff. I can see how fans of the Shins, Iron & Wine, etc would just eat your roomie up. Bueno, thanks for sharing.

I hate pretty much all the music that comes out of here (salt lake). Band of Annuals have a couple good songs. I think they're known nationwide. Their album is on what.cd. BTW.

Tolchock Trio is pretty cool kind of a Sonic Youth and Pixies-ish feel.

Jenny is immensely talented and an absolute sweetheart. My bass player plays with her and did the tour with her last summer. Now Jenny and I both get to miss him while he's on tour with Ingrid Michaelson this summer.

My personal choice is Michael Brunnock out of NYC/Ireland... his voice gives me the absolute chills. http://www.myspace.com/michaelbrunnock

Adam Torres (also goes by Nostra Nova).

He is from Athens, OH and he is an amazing songwriter.

I really encourage you guys to listen to a few songs here: adam torres

he took his myspace stuff down, I think because he wants to try to go back to school and finish his degree. His music is really incredible stuff. If you only listen to one song on that page, check out Breakneck Jane's Fifteen Minute Escape.

I'll throw my hat in the ring here. I am fortunate enough to have some really great local artists around.

1. The Dexateens http://www.dexateens.net/ http://www.myspace.com/dexateens

2. Through the Sparks http://www.myspace.com/throughthesparks

3. Taylor Hollingsworth http://www.myspace.com/taylorhollingsworth

4. Kate Taylor http://www.myspace.com/thisiskt -- she is Maria Taylor's sister and, in my opinion, a little better songwriter.

especially her more rocking stuff with her band the tantrums.

camaro power rocks, and live when she breaks into some varying story about her high school days in the backseat, well, enough said.

I've loved Danielle since my college days. Oddly enough, I have never heard her on local radio here (except for maybe WUSC) but was in Mississippi a couple of years ago and got really excited when I heard her duet w/Darius Rucker on a station there.

I'll throw my vote in for one of Danielle's buddies, Josh Roberts and the Hinges. Oh and also American Gun is fun, too.
