I suppose I just can't bring myself to get that angry about it. Call it complacency, blame it on my youth and lack of real worries or problems, but I'm just not mad. Our country has been responsible for a lot worse, but today, we know more about it with more frequency.

So because we've done bad things in the past as a country, you aren't mad about bad things we do now? How about being mad about all of it? And doing what you can about it? You know, like me. I get on a message board to complain about it. :)

Seriously, though. Your statement above bums me out. :(

well then, i hope the oil speculators are taking note of this. what's it gonna be? .10 cents cheaper a gallon in 2009? meaning it will be 5.92 instead of 6.02 next summer? can't wait for that...

thank you president bush...thank you...your crazy plot for middle east domination and control of oil is working after all! and it only took you and your father just shy of 20 years.... .10 cents a gallon...hot damn...

read the documents posted by viatroy. i know it's easier to just be skeptical and write off a fact one doesn't like as cliche, but really, if you truly want to know what's been going on and why, read the stuff written by the very people who have been deeply involved in the bush administration and who articulated their desire to control, yes, the middle east, and yes, because of its oil. it's that simple. read what they wrote.

You are asking me to be angry about this, but I don't think it's as bad as you do. Thus, I'm not as angry as you.

I'm pretty pissed that Weezer hasn't announced a tour yet, but I don't expect you to get mad about it, even though I realize that Wilco cancelling in Charleston was probably worse.

Have you ever even contemplated that it is the sand, that we're in it for the sand - all that beautiful, beautiful sand?

I am not asking you to be angry about anything. You are saying that you just can't get all that worked up about this Administration's screwups because other Administrations have screwed up. I am trying to understand why/how the two are connected because I don't think they are.

You are also telling me that this Administration's screwups relate to incompetence more than anything else. I have yet to hear a good explanation for that one either.

Instead I get a Wilco/Weezer analogy.

I'm sorry my explanations aren't good enough for you? In the grand scheme of things, their actions don't piss me off that much. There. Who gives a fuck why that is?

I'm not angry. Any reason I give to you will not satisfy you, and I don't really care. To be honest, I've gotten past the point of trying to explain my beliefs in anything more than superficial terms on message boards. Mostly because I don't have many concrete ones. My views are subject to change, and I don't like to dig myself a hole that I'll have to try to explain my way out of.

For what it's worth, I appreciate you taking the time to try to explain your position. You said what you truly believe and I can in no way fault you for that. I respect your effort.

there was no amount of force in response to 9/11 that would've satisfied anyone. We either would've done too much or too little depending on who you asked.

I think that actually catching Osama bin Laden would have satisifed a lot of people -- including me. Instead we got the major major distraction called Iraq, segueing into yet another dangerous distraction, Iran.

Agreed - thoughtful explanation chomp - that's all anyone can ask.

that's right. we've never had enough sand on the east coast or west coast, nor in the prairie lands. no one has brought that up before. why, now that you have, i'm starting to resent it. why should any middle eastern country have more sand than we do. it all makes sense now . . .

Well, I don't think it would make a difference, but yeah I guess it would've been a nice "rah rah" mission accomplished kind of thing. But really, I'd guess if he's even alive (not likely) he hasn't had a hand in day to day Al Queada operations in 5 or 6 years.

I have said it before and I'll say it again - if there was a draft, people would be a lot more interested in this war.

when they get around to sending out draft notices, people should just avoid opening their mail.

That seems slightly more than a little obvious.

you would think so, but a draft with all its consequences, which are profound, is not real to quite a few people who have never had to cope with it personally.

I'm old enough to remember Vietnam (too well). Yeah, a draft changes everything and makes a war so much more of a personal affront.

I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt that he did think he was doing the right thing by invading Iraq, even if there were also some ulterior motives involved. Mostly because I don't see how he personally profited from this.

That's because he hasn't yet -- the profit will come after he leaves office, from all his buddies that benefitted from creating the disaster capitalist utopia that is Iraq (starting with profiteers #1 and #2, Cheney and Rumsfeld, who both made millions upon millions).

I think most people just don't have the time or energy to worry about something that just isn't going to happen.
